We were provided a sheet of paper signed by the manager/owner Jennifer stating we would be able to pick up our refund check on 8/9/24. Went to pick up said check on 8/9/24 at approximately 6pm. To our surprise the check was not there and the front desk admin was rude, flustered, and not capable of reaching Jennifer nor able to provide any concrete direction outside of "oh well it's not here, I can't reach Jennifer she works weekends at home so try to email her." I immediately emailed Jennifer as we drove home and did not receive a response to date. The front desk admin also informed us that Jennifer would be in on Monday at 9am. I attempted to call this morning at 10 am and the facility isn't open and no one answered the phone ( I am not surprised). I understand now why they are hiring- I even asked the front desk admin what they were looking for to hire she responded people to work! Um, where is the oh are you interested or know someone?! He is so patient, kind, respectful & understanding. The dojo is set up very nicely, is so clean, and there is soft padding on the floor that keeps the students safe while being instructed. All of the students are very engaged, focused and determined. One of the many things that won me over in deciding to have my oldest son become a part of the Jukido Academy family was the fact that the older students are so very helpful during lessons with the younger students. Every student I have met has been kind, respectful & welcoming to my son & our family. All the students are expected to help each other during the practicing of Sensei's instructions. Sensei George & his other instructors are fun, energetic and 100% engaged at all times. The children's program meets twice a week and my son wishes it was every night because he loves it so much. The Jukido Academy has already given my son so much! He is more confident, self-sufficient, well behaved, respectful, patient and shows so much more pride in the work that he does during homeschool lessons, too! I love the core values that are the driving force here at this Dojo. They don't simply give out a new belt to a student simply because of attendance, so no "participation trophy". A progression in belt color may only be achieved through hard work and mastering of the skill-set for which that belt requires. I also love the one week free trial that they offer in order to ensure that the Dojo is a good fit for the student and their family. The monthly rate is 100% affordable and the Dojo is completely transparent regarding pricing, schedules and what is expected from the student and family. As a homeschooling, budget-minded mom of three, I don't like surprises, especially when it comes to $$. To be honest, the principles and values that my son has and will learn are priceless! I have been going to this dojo for a about six months now…read more Sensei Bob Otto is a very kind and honorable man who puts his students first. I have seen the way he works with the younger students and to help them grow as individuals. They are not only learning karate, but also life skills. How to deal with bullies, how to stand up for themselves, and how to communicate effectively. Bob and his staff really take time with the kids to work with them and help them become the best they can be. I have also seen Sensei Bob Otto and his staff help older adults ease into Karate and the exercises and take their time with them to make sure that they're doing the katas and movements correctly, but also make adjustments if a certain movement is not working for the individual (such as causing pain or discomfort due to not being flexible enough yet - or previous injury). I personally appreciate it when Sensei Otto and staff take the time to show me the proper way to do the katas, strikes, and blocks. I also enjoy the style of karate taught here. Uechi-Ryu Karate-Do. It is a traditional Okinawan karate that is closely related to Southern Shaolin Tiger and Crane Kung Fu. The art has retained a lot of the flowing circular motions seen in Kung Fu. This karate style also shares a similar lineage to Goju-Ryu. This is a very effective karate for learning self defense. In the style there is an inherent focus on conditioning the body for balance and to be able to take hits (if one has to). The blocks learned in this style are also incredibly practical and powerful. They are circular movements and operate kind of like a parry. It takes a bit to learn to do effectively but I can't argue with the practical applications. Sensei Bob Otto also brings other things into the mix to keep things interesting. Sensei Otto is a certified Krav Maga instructor and has some experience in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. He is also a fan of boxing / kick-boxing and will often include drills and techniques from Krav Maga, BJJ, and Boxing/Kickboxing to switch things up, keep things interesting, and as he says "To add more tools to your toolbox". Everyone has been very kind and supportive and has offered me help when I have struggled. This dojo has a very nice family-like atmosphere. I always look forward to classes and always enjoy myself.
