I go at least once a week now for lunch and always order a Kindermanta - two currywursts and fries. You know, currywurst is generally currywurst... a mediocre sausage and fries. The difference at this place is the sauce. With everything ranging from "Wieny Weichei" (translates roughly to "what a wuss") with no spiciness at all to some insane level of spiciness that you don't even want (trust me, I tried a piece of it once, it was hotter than pleasurable), no matter your sensitivity to spicy foods (or lack of taste buds), you will find something here. In fact, if you find it difficult to find truly excellent hot sauces the likes of which you can only find the in the US and A, they sell a wide variety in bottles, including my beloved Dave's Gourmet sauces. Of course, you can get other foods here, too -- a few other kinds of sausages, hamburgers, and stuff like that. But I've been so happy with the currywurst, why should I bother? EDIT Dec. 2nd, 2010: I've gone here many times now. I still like the place, but I don't think it really warrants 5 stars. Although the sauce is quite good, I don't think this place offers such a great value. But it is still far-and-away the best currywurst in Freiburg, and certainly much better than the crap offered at the newer place across from the Uni-Café.

The absolute worst McDonald's franchise I've ever been to. We tried a few times, so I'm not basing…read moremy review on a one-time bad experience. The dining rooms are not well-designed: there is a lot of space, but the table configuration leaves very few seating possibilities. It's also often messy and dirty. The employees are rude and condescending, and continually get orders wrong. They are out of half the options every time, but only let you know at the very end of your order, sometimes even after you've already paid. I once waited ten minutes for a McFlurry; I was finally handed a cup of plain ice cream, with no toppings nor sauce, and was told after I complained: "oh we're out of all the toppings." I know there are not many cheap and fast options for a warm lunch downtown Freiburg, but you'll be better off with the Chinese take out around the corner, or the Nordsee (the German Long John Silver's) up the street. There are also a salad bar and a Thai soup place one block down, where you can get a much better meal for exactly the same price. Avoid this McDonald's at all costs.
