This is a beautiful hotel set in lovely grounds not far from where the A14, M1 and M6 meet. You drive up a long drive and park outside what was a georgian country house.
You can stay here in lovely rooms. However, as I live not far away, I only ever visit for lunch or afternoon tea.
There are dining rooms for hire. However, most people eat in the amazing victorian orangery at the back of the hotel. It is a glorious structure - huge. There is a bar and a slouchy seating area to take pre drinks. Or, if the day is nice, on the terrace which looks over rolling countryside. The terrace is a great place to while away a Sunday afternoon. There is nothing specifically for children but there is lots of space for them to run. Trees to play around. They'll love it. And you'll love it. It's a great place to take pictures too.
Then back inside for food .. and this is it's only downfall. It should be superb, the servce definitely is. However, it's totally variable - one day great, the next time not! It can be an expensive mistake.
So do what we do. Enjoy the beauty and the grandeur and go for afternoon tea. It's great! read more
