Kilmalkedar Church (or Cill Maolcheadair) is a historical site on the Dingle Peninsula that includes a 12th-century Romanesque church ruin and other ancient monuments like an Ogham stone, sundial, and alphabet stone. It was founded by St. Maolcethair in the 7th century and is also strongly associated with St. Brendan the Navigator. The site is situated on the Cosán na Naomh pilgrimage path.
Our tour bus stopped here soon after visiting the Blasket Island Visitor's Center on our way back to Dingle. As I'm on a local Nevada Cemetery Board, Graveyards intrigue me in terms of headstone design, what's stated on them, and the honoring of those we died during Ireland's independence battles with the bridges. Then there were all the "random" stones with mass graves belong marking those who died during the Great Hunger. The place was oddly peaceful and we wandered around and one of the few Irish monuments that didn't have a gift shop. read more
