I cannot recommend this place highly enough. When I returned…read moreto work after manternity leave I had to find somewhere or someone to look after my daughters. But I also had to find someone to pick my eldest daughter up from nursery. I managed to find Early days in Ryhope. It is attached to Ryhope Infant school and is part of the Sure Start group. When I phoned to ask about childcare places they advised me that they would take my eldest from nursery (which is attached) and bring her into the childcare setting once her class was finished. They would also look after her at lunch time in the main school hall. Being a normal mum I was a bit apprehensive but knew that I would only be able to tell if the place was any good by visiting. First impressions were great. Very polite and friendly staff. They all made an effort to come talk to me, even though I could tell that they were busy looking after the kids and sticking to routines. What impressed me most was that altough the staff all came to talk to me, they talked to the girls first. Asking theirs names, what they liked doing and if they wanted to join in with the other children. Obviously I signed them up straight away. And they have never looked back. I am sure that Early days has brought my youngest daughter on a treat. She seems very confident and a good little talker for her age. Due to leaving work the girls no longer attend Early days, but everytime we see a member of staff they always stop and talk to us, ask the girls how they are. And I wouldn't hesitate in sending them there again if I return to work. Early days also provides a breakfast and after school club for older children.

My eldest daughter goes to the Nursery at Ryhope Infant School…read more On my first visit I thought the school was a bit like fort knox. You have to walk around the gated field and yard to get to the reception. Once you reach reception you have to wait for someone to open the door for you. But thinking about it, this is a great feature for the school. It means that no-one can get into the school without someone knowing. On a morning a teacher opens the gate and checks the children off a list, or the children enter via the childrens centre and you can watch them go right into the class room. Friday afternoons see the nursery open there doors onto a corridor along with the reception class doing the same, allowing the children to mix, and not be intimadated my the older children. The head teacher, Mrs Ray is very friendly and approachable. My daughter has progressed really well there and I'm sure that the pleasent atmosphere and friendly teachers help in this.
