I have learned so much about not only my own children, but how to relate to all ages through my experience at SREC Preschool.

CMP has it all! The teachers are kind, loving, have boundaries, and enjoy playing/being with students. Parents are made to feel welcomed and are always invited into the classroom (sadly this is not the case at every preschool). I also appreciate the structure that CMP offers. Students engage in a circle time, learn about topics within thematic units, and have focused skills that they learn. At the same time, they have the freedom to walk around and choose what they want to play with for that day. We love CMP and look forward to sending our third child there next year! Long review because I can't recommend Barbara Shore more enthusiastically. Our son has already…read morereceived 4 early acceptance letters to his "target" schools. He's on his way. Our goal in working with a college tutor was to help our son with choice. A guide to help him figure out what he valued in a college experience, sort out his areas of academic interests and strengths and then do the work of presenting himself in college applications. It's a tall order for a high school junior. As parents we wanted to back out of this process and give him space to understand what he wants. We needed someone who knew what she was doing to take him through the process and stay on track. After first meeting with Barbara we signed up for the long term package and stepped out of their way. From the start Barbara worked autonomously with our son, he clicked with her style. They set up their calendar of meetings and she held him accountable to make each session. She worked around his class and sports schedule. Her process is clear. She gave him very specific tasks and deadlines as she taught him how to assess pros/cons various schools - her expertise in this area critical to his understanding of options. He built out a detailed google spreadsheet to compare/contrast each school he considered and ultimately determine his final list of schools. Her experience is evident in strategic guidance around what it takes to "get in", how to line up safety, target and reach schools, how to write and revise The Essay. As my son said, he "learned the subtle nuances between college essays and academic essays." He valued their meetings "she was my most important teacher, she was my teacher for college, she taught me everything I needed to know. She was tough and doesn't put up with fuzzy thinking. I felt some pressure but not stressed working with her. I know she cared." Barbara adapted to Covid remote work seamlessly, they didn't miss a beat shifting from face to face into Zoom meetings. She kept him organized and on task so he never got lost or stalled out. By the time deadlines came round he wasn't scrambling - he had already submitted his applications. More than a college acceptance letter, this process of figuring out what he wants and going for it gave him confidence moving forward. The investment's paid off already. If you're considering a college tutor- do it! If you're considering Barbara Shore - do it! She gets the job done, she's direct and easy to work with, she's conscientious and cares about her work and her students. She'll also full of tips for parents on scholarships and financing college. My son missed their meetings when they were done. That's success.

Both of my sons have attended this preschool and have loved it! To start, the teachers and directors are wonderful. Most of them have been teaching at the preschool for over 10 years and are truly invested in getting to know each child and the families. It is a play based preschool so the amount of thought and intentions the teachers put behind each activity to encourage creativity or fine motor skills, etc is amazing. They know how to prepare your kids for school. When my oldest son went into Kindergarten - he was totally ready even though he thought he was just 'playing' the whole time at preschool. The facility is always spotless and there is so much space for the kids. The outdoor area has a huge sandbox, that my son LOVED to play in, they have bikes, a tire swing, etc and depending on the theme of the week, they will even bring out bails of hay for the kids to play on. They are very diligent on cleanliness - washing hands before snack, cleaning the dress up clothes regularly, and informing families immediately if someone was sick. Lastly, the community of families that attend here are wonderful. As we all know, raising children can be very hard at times so I am so thankful for the parents that I have met through this preschool. We are in the thick of it together and many of them are now my best friends and our kids still love playing together, despite going to different elementary schools. It is a beautiful community and that's why I had to leave a review - I want everyone to attend here!!

We've been so happy here since starting in August. We happened to wander in while out for a walk…read morejust a week after moving to Santa Rosa, and I'm so very glad we did. Here's a small example that illustrates how wonderful they are: My son had a stellar first day, and an absolutely terrible second day- tantrums, refusing to follow instructions...he even hit a teacher. I was mortified. The director called me within an hour of pickup time to discuss what might be going on- the answer to which, of course, was "a lot!" (recent move, recovering from illness, sleep deprivation, new baby brother.) She was so absolutely kind and thoughtful, I was nearly in tears from relief at her compassionate response. And, when speaking to my son about that day, he said: "I was mad and sad and didn't want to do anything, and the teachers gave me cuddles." Really. After all the rotten stuff, that's what he took away from the day...that the teachers gave him cuddles. Wonderful. He's since adjusted very well, and is always so happy when I pick him up. They do a great job of building a sense of community among the parents, and the developmental curriculum is creative and fun. It's not super academic, but that's not what we were looking for; if that's what you require, you may wish to supplement with another program. (However, I think they do offer an optional additional day for the 4 year-olds that is focused more on school readiness.) I should also mention that we're not a very religious family, but I've been very comfortable with the level of faith-related activity; it's just your basic Noah's Ark/saying grace before snack/telling the Christmas story type of stuff. After more than 20 years working in child development, and the past three years touring and reviewing schools for a company that matches families to schools, I'm pretty picky. I'll definitely send my infant here when he's ready.
