This is the worst appraisal company around!!! Do not, do not use them. This appraiser would not…read morerespond to our realtor or the listing agent about completing the appraisal. When we finally did get a response from the appraiser it was almost 2 weeks later. The appraisal our lender received had several errors on it and needed to be corrected. At that point we were 4 weeks out from ordering this appraisal. The appraiser would not respond to the lenders request for adjustments. Finally the requested adjustments were made but the appraisal came in very low and did not include all of the acreage or the correct number of bathrooms. Here we are again asking for corrections to be made with no response. We were supposed to close on this house over two weeks ago and are still waiting to have the corrections made to move forward. Nate Byram is the owner of this company and also does real estate so you would think he would be on top of it. RUN FAR AWAY FROM THEM.

Upon arrival he greeted and introduced himself with business cards and addressed how we should go about making the process fast and efficient for everyone, knowing that we were still in grieving mode. He identified items we had questions about and then more noteworthy artworks and antiques for which he was able to provide restoration concerns and an estimates of value. In the end we only needed a few items formally appraised with a report, but having a knowledgeable person who gave us confidence in the appraisal process was just what our family needed at the time. I was a little disappointed in my dealings with Christopher's and I'll explain why. The store is…read morereally fascinating, with lots of beautiful and unique jewelry. The staff seem well informed and are very helpful, too. I went there looking for an engraved locket for my mother and while they didn't have anything in stock that fit what I needed, they told me they could easily order it in and engrave the locket in store but the whole process would take two weeks tops from beginning to end. They called while I was there and confirmed their supplier had the item I wanted and would ship it to Christopher's right away. I actually live in Los Angeles but my in-laws live in Champaign, so I paid in full for the locket and engraving and agreed that my mother in law would collect the order when it was ready and send it to me. Fine. Except it took over 10 days longer than the completion date they gave me and I ended up having to bug them about it. When I finally got the locket, the last letter on the engraving looked like an M instead of an N but I didn't bother to call them. I was just disappointed with the experience overall, and hope it may have been different if I'd ordered a custom item instead.

The first meeting we had no idea what we wanted and some great questions got us on the right path, the designs Chris Jupp came up with were not quite what we wanted so we kept looking - a few months later after looking all over DC we came back with a better idea and he was able to blend what we liked from half a dozen different rings to create the prefect ring. Contacted Schackmann on Monday the 9th. Ellen assured me somebody would get back in contact with me about it. Waited a week. Called again, and Ellen again assured that someone would get back with me. Waited another week, and got ahold of Mark Shackmann himself.... was told he would personally talk to the property owner and make it right.... and here we go...SEPTEMBER 28TH AND NOTHING. They are nice enough on the phone until you need to be refunded your money for an inproper listing. Terrible.
