This is the first review I have ever written on Yelp…read more We booked a day cruise with Capt Matt last week I noticed that he did not have any reviews on yelp that I thought was kind of weird I figured he was just getting started in the charter business I saw the photos of him and his clients and his boat and beautiful locations in the turquoise water and new that he was for real We started at the most beautiful snorkeling spot I have ever been, Alligator Reef. He jumped in the water and took my three teenage children on a tour around the whole tower of the reef My kids told me later that they enjoyed Capt Matt's Charter more than all the charters we went on last year in the US Virgin Islands combined He made the trip fun, exciting and made us feel like we knew him for a long time He is very personable, and customized this trip just the way we could enjoy this beautiful area with the skill level we had After a vip snorkeling experience he took us to a place to just kick back on the sand bar We then had frozen virgin mango drinks with the portable blender we had on board, floated in the calm water and enjoyed the show of all the boaters around us We were vacationing in the keys all week and this was the highlight of the trip We are planning to return in a few months, Capt Matt and Tan Line Charters will be the first call we make upon our return Job well done, thanks for the great memories!!!!

The boat was great and Dillan made sure we had everything we needed and even gave a few pointers for extra fun. Worth the money and hard to believe another charter could beat this experience.

    - Charter booked 7am on 3/31/25 for 4 hours - We were told…read morebeforehand Captain Skye doesn't captain the boat anymore so we were promised new captain & first mate were great & experienced, but found out new Captain George (aka Captain Doc) is retired chiropractor (no details on his Captain experience) & the original planned first mate wasn't available so they needed to fill with inexperienced first mate who was a boat mechanic with little experience as a first mate - Launch took off on time at 7am, but before launch we were invaded by no see um bites & had multiple roaches running around the boat - After short ride they took about an hour to catch bait because bait wasn't in "mass quantities" and they didn't know how to use casting nets adequately while other captains pulled up to spot & pulled in 2 netful of bait fish & were off in less than 15 minutes - Fishing lines were inadequate & old for the targeted fish having multiple knots in the lines & one braid line was gummed up when used which ran out of line when we hooked up on the first & only fish. Captain commented that he had no idea who strung that line on the rod. - Spent over an hour at initial spot even though only catch were a couple of small yellow tail snappers. Only one-fourth of a 5 gallon pail was filled with 2 small boxes of bait store bought chum for the trip. Stayed at this spot an extra 30 minutes even though other charters left spot because they didn't catch anything or were catching small grunts. Captain stayed at this spot to snag bait not tending much to the clients while first mate sat there on his phone periodically. With chumming & casting technique fish should've hooked up within seconds of hitting the water (Captain even acknowledged this) but lines spent up to 5+ minutes in the water & same old bait was used over again switching to squid for a short period of time -Second spot spent about hour drifting over a reck with free line which were on out of date spin casting rods with 30# monoline that had knots all over the lines. Hooked up on 5 fish that we were told were "tuna" but rods / line had no power to real in fish & captain blaming us experienced fisherman partly our technique was poor. "Tuna" never got even close to the boat nor did any of the hooked "tuna" ever jump out of the water to identify if they were actually tuna. All lines broke off & we're told sharks bit them off but never reeled in a head to identify this was the case - Last spot we fished a reck by drifting over by it, bottom fishing with large rods with small pieces of bait. Sonar on the spot showed little activity & no attempt was made by the captain to find a spot where sonar showed better fish clusters. We caught one 8" lane snapper & 1 small blue runner (bait fish). Poles were so outdated and the poor line caused difficulties reeling in these small fish. -Captain called off fishing at that point around 11:30pm which was 4.5 hours after starting the charter at 7am. We got back to landing spot before 12pm - All in we spent time within approximately estimated 7-8 miles from the initial launch spot in inadequate depths that ranged from 60'-200' so no effort to use more fuel to get to better spots more offshore - Boat is old, outdated & unclean with wires hanging down in plain sight, and boat also lacked a windlass anchor (mechanical) which was used by all other charter boats around us - We spent $1,421 on the charter & left gracious $150 cash tip to first mate for his efforts (it was not the young man's fault). When discussed with Captain Skye afterwards he supported the Captain & first mate efforts with excuses & saying they work really hard, they catch fish "all the time" posting photos on Instagram (although pictures on their website & other venues were mostly 1-5+ years old) & we should feel fortunate that they spent extra time with us than they normally do - 1 fisherman our group used Captain Sky about 2 years ago & had success but without Captain Skye & adequate first mate this operation felt inept & have no problem taking people's hard earned money

If you are into supporting local small businesses, then you should book your fishing trip with these guys. As for the fishing we crushed it. There was not a moment when we were not getting some action. Highly recommend this boat for anyone in the keys looking to go sport fishing. Look at the size of this fish I scored, and I have no clue how to fish these waters
