I worked as a service engineer with keybury for nearly 2 years. A typical day includes getting your jobs through ans covering a massive radius of 300 miles in my case from Aberystwyth to chepstoow and everywhere in between.
No training plan in place, no user manual for the alarms so going in blind effectively. The head office taught me nothing ans sent me into the field with other engineers until I could do jobs myself.
Management including the delivery manager is useless he likes to think because he has been there for 30 years he owns the place when realistically he doesn't. Pushes to get extra jobs out of you most day and when I complained because when the job is 70 miles away from home in the middle of the afternoon threatened me with disciplinary action. When challenged and questioned about a better viable and more efficient way to do this by sending an engineer who was closer you are told and I quote "to go or you will be dragged up to the office for a disciplinary." He has no man management skills, no support system in place always knows better than you and you are always in the wrong.
That is not how Management works in my eyes.
Workplace culture and morale is low no engineer is ever happy there as you have to work on call and be on standby for no extra payment on weekends (at the time) so no work life balance effectively. They will tell you to be on standby on the phone as first instance then attend call outs for NO EXTRA pay in your own time on the weekend. As you can imagine I refused to do this. That yet again didnt go down well with management.
Hospital appointments? Doctors? You will be docked wages out of your pay even if you book an afternoon appointment. No consideration for work/ life balance, HR don't have a clue and make you do your own vehicle tax even though it is their vehicle. Messed my tax code up so many times and tried to say it was HMRC's fault. Very stringent, tight family run business who take more than they give. They want you working earning them money constantly because they are greedy.
The icing on the cake was my boss showing up unannounced to one of my my jobs to let me go because I asked for a reference as I was leaving to a more secure job. Put me on gardening leave for just over a week and had to pay me wages for sitting in the house.
This is how ruthless they are as a company. I worked hard for them for my time there and my thanks was that when I wanted to better myself and go for a more secure job which suited me better.
Overall an awful greedy family company to work for who do not deserve good hard working and honest staff working for them.
Think twice before joining them as the pay, holidays, sickness pay are all terrible too read more
