Kerevansaray Termal Otel is located in Osmangazi, Bursa. It's composed of the hamam and hotel, but I only visited the hamam which I will discuss here.
The Hamam is located in the former Eski Kaplıcı, literally old spa. It was built by Sultan Murad I between 1360 and 1369 CE, which makes it the oldest hamam built by him. It was further built up by Sultan Beyezid II between 1481 and 1512. During this time, a changing area was constructed. The structure was originally built upon Byzantine ruins, which is mentioned in ancient sources.
My friend, who is a Bursalı, suggested this hamam to me and said it is the best one in Bursa. Following his suggestion, I visited it twice in September 2021. For both visits, I paid for the regular ticket as well as a massage. However, I did not pay for a scrub. When you arrive at the hamam, you must separate by gender. I entered the female side, paid my ticket, and was provided a key for a locker, sandals, and a small towel. You can either put on a bathing suit or enter without one. Once you are ready, you can either relax in the changing area or you can directly enter the bathing area. You must wash yourself in the small sinks before entering the hot pool. When your hamamcı is ready, she will inform.
I absolutely loved my time at the hamam and the hamamcı really helped take away my back pain. My body felt so much better after the massage and I felt very clean.
I suggest you bring a water bottle, a larger towel, and possibly a change of clothes and blow dryer since these things are not provided. If you don't mind leaving a tad bit wet, then they're not really necessary. The water bottle is so you don't feel dehydrated afterwards because the pool water is very hot.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit here. It is an easy weekend trip from Istanbul or Eskişehir (other cities too but I won't list them). Your visit will be very relaxing and you'll be able to see some archaeology along the way. read more
