They had the snip bus at this location and they were very easy to work with. I signed up my dog to get neutered and the email instructions were easy to follow so we were very prepared. They took great care of my dog and even helped us with his after care when I had to call in for extra information. Very helpful.

For the month of February, all adoption fees are waived!! That means you can adopt a cat or a dog for FREE!!!! Once you walk to the back, yes, it smells like poo but that is expected. There are so many dogs, big ones, small ones, they're all cute! **Dogs ask for so little and deserve so much ** My mom did adopt a cat yesterday. She gets to pick it up this Saturday. The lady at the front informed us it had received a check-up, received its vaccines, will get microchipped, and is getting neutered. I will then post a picture of it, and if we do have to pay anything on Saturday.

Rose is a long-term resident too. Adopt me please!! Under a year old, plays well w other dogs.

I recently visited our local shelter and found out they are overcrowded. The facility can hold about 100 animals, and I heard there are over 400. Staff work hard cleaning the kennels. I've been there twice this past week. There are some people in our community who are dropping off healthy dogs and litters of puppies. Most of these dogs are so well-behaved. Please share this info n get more dogs adopted. If you can not adopt, sign up to be a volunteer n share info or foster a dog so you can help make room for another. You can go in the shelter n take photos n videos of Long-term residents (signage indicates which dogs are LTR) n share your photos on your social media to get the word out so they can get fostered or adopted. Many other opportunities to help such as signing up as a short-term volunteer so you can take a dog out of the kennel for a few hours during Streets of Bakersfield event on certain Saturdays. Let's be a community who provides solutions and not just complain n hope the next person will help! Staff is overwhelmed, so you won't likely get anyone to answer the phones. Go visit the shelter.

Puppy starving

Two stars because the 1st officer who came out was professional and respectful. Zero stars for the 2nd guy who came out. I have neighbors who are neglecting their puppies. No water, no shelter, no toys, no attention, it's awful. The 2nd guy treated me awful. First, he outed me by parking at my house, shouting my name, and loudly asking if I was the one who called. All in front of the neighbors. Then he got rude and condensing to me. He said let me explain "so that you can understand." I told him I was sure I could understand anything he said as I do have a PhD. I don't know why he got so adversial with me. I was the one who called. I tried to ask why he was defending animal abusers. I finally gave up and called his supervisor. It's been 2 weeks and the supervisor never called back. I called again today and got him. It made no difference. He didn't seem to care and nothing will be done. Shame. Im trying to help the puppies myself now. Picture is of one puppy I said was skinny and bones. He said it was fine. You decide.

One really learns the value of humility walking through these doors at KCAS. There are so many smart, loving animals here, that it's really hard to walk away and not remember the faces of the animals, thinking why can't one do more. It reminded me that life can be unpredictable, and when things fall through, Kern County Animal Services is the safety net that gently cradles these animals to safety. The staff on this location are loving and so dedicated to helping these animals recover, feel better, and find forever homes that they deserve. they've developed a really great system for identifying the needs of the dogs, kittens, and others (like guinea pigs - which are currently still available to adopt) with their perspective areas. There are a lot of puppies that are available to adopt as well. Each week, Kern County animal services posts on their facebook page and features some of the adoptable animals. Pictures are also available on their website. Two years ago, we fostered kittens and adopted two wonderful kitties (that are now kitty teenagers), and they are the most wonderful additions to our home. We bonded with them when they were kittens, and they hardly require any work at all (we've got our own nail trimmer, and when they get dirty, we also give them baths). They are the most precious things, and since they were used to nail clippings at a younger age, as well as immunization shots, they are easy to take care of. Recently, I started becoming more involved with KCAS and was able to observe the amount of work that is needed with taking care of the animals is kind of really overwhelming. KCAS is a wonderful place to volunteer, and they are looking for more volunteers at this time. You can simply go onto their website and fill out a form. I was contacted within 2 weeks. So start early.

I adopt my Bandit yesterday. He look healthy and is getting happy by the minute. The staff in the back is amazing love them all. But oh boy the girl in the front is horrible. Rude, my fiancee was ready to walk away. But i whent to the back and talk to the staff in the back. Who smile and HELP. To the clerk who go by her initials i think. Barnumt. You are very rude. And now it make think twiece if i want to go back and adopt again.

I really didn't like that, but once you are inside for awhile you get use to the smell.

If you're looking to adopt a pet, I would highly recommend visiting Bakersfield SPCA's website as I…read morewas told that it is up to date with all of the current animals that are available for adoption! It's a little difficult to get ahold of this place over the phone, but once you do, they only take same day appointments & you have to call on the day you want to visit + hope that there are free appointments. We visited to view cats and were helped shortly after arriving. According to the front desk, if the animal that you're interested in picking up has already been spayed, you can take them home the same day! Or, if they have been, they either try to get them spayed/neutered the next day, or by Tuesdays (as those are their spay/neuter days). We unexpectedly found the perfect little baby to take home, 20 minutes, a bit of paper work + calls to my apartment complex and $100 later, we were given all the paper work / vaccine records + a bag of kitten kibble! Make sure to bring your own carrier if you're really looking to pick up a furry friend on the same day. The only thing I didn't like was finding out afterwards that our little boy hadn't finished his course of vaccines. A friend of mine has adopted cats from an SPCA before & because they hadn't finished having their vaccines, they were able to go in to the facility to finish off their booster shots free of cost.

Rude lady comes to take a look at them just to say she can not take them in due to them being "sick". Mind you this lady isn't even a vet or technician. They were going to charge me $30 a piece for each of them to intake them. Lady suggested to take them to KCAS instead not knowing they'll probably get killed there and possibly not get adopted.Very unprofessional. Wanting to diagnose these babies without running test or even being certified to say exactly what's going on.Do not come here, waste of time, and clearly only want your money, makes sense coming from a non-profit organization.

They have provided everything I needed for him and more, from shots to microchip to neutering! Andy works the foster side and she is literally a lifesaver. Every interaction I've had with her she has been professional, compassionate, and friendly. There was a situation that I was pretty upset with and Andy perfectly de-escalated it and made me extremely happy. I'm a little embarrassed at how angry I was (and I never get angry), but she really did a great job of bringing me back down. I would highly recommend this place!

The a****** that stole him travels, so it is possible that it's my little buddy. I can't believe how unhelpful these people are. I have dealt with the Humane Society and pounds here in Az and these are the most uncaring people I've had the misfortune to talk to. These people don't deserve to take care of pets. THEY S***!
