Inspired, creative, fun displays; beautiful new building; clean bathrooms; plenty of computers. Some staff are aloof and hesitant when asked questions - almost unapproachable - I get the sense that maybe they have to deal with a lot of homeless and/or mentally ill patrons so they have to put up a strong emotional wall, so to speak. Maybe it's just a matter of letting them get to know that you're sane, and don't mean any harm, over time. I wish they had more options for fun classes and events! It's probably just slow because of covid. read more

What a great library! It's not the biggest that I've been to, but it's definitely one of the cleanest. Kent is really lucky to have such a great free place to find books. I just recently got a library card to check out some DVDs, and they have a huge selection to choose from. I checked out seven just the first time I visited. There's also a ton of CDs to look through. They have a really good indie/alternative selection, which I love. I haven't been in the children's section, but from the outside it looks super colorful and inviting. A perfect place to take kids during the summer. There are two floors filled with books that are sectioned off by fiction vs. non-fiction and adult vs. young adult. There are also suggestions and recommendations on books to choose from all over the shelves, which I really liked because I'm actually going on vacation soon and I didn't have anything specific in mind that I wanted to read. I'm so glad that Kent has this gem, I just wish I would have gotten a library card sooner! read more

My favorite library ever. 3 stories, great selection, friendly staff. I'm there every few days and have never had a problem with anything. The kids section is nice and has a playroom of sorts, touch screen computers, regular story times, and plenty of books and movies. There are several computers on the second floor, meeting rooms, and private study rooms. Everyone who works here is very nice and helpful. I love the big windows and there are several places to sit down and read or use the WiFi. read more

Huge, quiet. Nice big windows and lots of light. Big comfy chairs in all directions. Nice computer lab. A huge magazine selection. The kids secton has a train with cut out seats and a giant tree. Very quiet. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was very empty, maybe because it was one of those October days with temps in the 70s. Interesting, kind of circular design. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. Large library that has just about everything. It's HUGE!!! Big windows bring in a lot of natural light, even on a cloudy rainy day and they have plenty of comfortable seating. I've never had a problem with their very large computer lab. Fast, friendly service in a clean and neat environment. I've never found this place extremely busy. The parking can be tricky since it's located in a kinda weird lot size, but it's also next to some tasty eateries if you need a snack! Near historical downtown Kent. Wort the visit! read more

Our hometown library in Kent, Ohio is a great place to find interesting reads. It is much larger now and has an extensive collection. They have a large number of public computers, rows and rows of them and there are spacious tables next to windows looking out towards the Cuyahoga river or towards downtown. Kent's non-fiction selection is really quite good although as of late they have not had a tremendous amount of new books coming in due to State of Ohio budget cuts. They have an inexpensive coffee shop right next to a really nice outdoor patio with tables and chairs as well as an indoor area with a ledge for study or for laptops. Yes, they have WiFi throughout and although I have never tried it, many people seem to be using it. The staff are helpful and if you have a special request, such as for tax forms, or a request for obscure information, they will efficiently find it for you. Perhaps the absolute greatest thing about the Kent Free Library's architecture is that when the new library was built, the century old Carnegie library was restored and integrated into the new library containing local history information. The restoration of old wood paneling is beautiful, and makes the perfect spot to read a book about Kent or Ohio history on a chilly Fall day. The historical Carnegie library is on the north end of the library just past the coffee shop. There is more to the Kent Free Library than what I have mentioned here and I know there are computer classes, talks, and other events. The whole building is new and very clean. read more

I used to go to this library all the time when i was taking college courses & my kids were growing up you name it they had it and the old staff was so friendly and would help with whatever help you needed or would find out the info to assist you I always felt this was the go to place for all information a person would ever need. . Went there last week (and by the way learning how to use a mp3 player for my exercise walks-now being 60 years of age)I asked for some help and a library aide just gave me a brochure and said that is how it works, and went up to ask help with the magazines another aide said just look on the side of the bookshelf where the listings are, in their seats and wouldn't budge..I was so surprised and bothered needless to say i felt like i made the trip for nothing. It looks like there was a whole new crew in there. Well hopefullly next time i go in maybe staff can be more helpful..So afterwards went to the akron library got all my projects done in same day staff was more than willing to get out of their chairs, to assist with the projects that i didn't get completed @ kent library. read more
