The children's librarians are very knowledgeable, friendly and provide quality story times and activities for every age.

Books on CD help make the commute tolerable.read more

This is a branch of the Akron Summit County System. There is a nice Children's area with a little…read morepuppet theater and even a turtle! The Children's magazine selection is varied and large, you can find something for all ages from toddler to junior high. The teen area is not large (like all the branches, there is not a ton of space) but is very nicely labeled and new books are clearly displayed. There is an assortment of books on CD and playaways which I use extensively for my long commute. The playaways can be used in the car with an adaptor but I mainly use them to stave off boredom while I exercise. There is a rather extensive collection of DVDs. I am always surprised that even more people don't take advantage of everything our local libraries have to offer. A "Sizzler" section of DVDs are on display, Simply, these are the newest releases. They circulate for 3 days instead of 7. The library also has popular TV series ranging from old classics like Seinfeld and Mash to current favorites like The Vampire Diaries and Fringe. If the branch does not have an item you want, they are happy to order it from another location. Usually this takes 2 days. There are various programs offered throughout the year. Things like computer skills, book clubs, author visits, local speakers, and story times are always well-attended. Twice a year the library holds the Book Sale. This is a fantastic way to procure materials at fantastic prices. I often buy books here for my school's library. Often there are donations of new books. The staff is extremely helpful but you have to approach them at the main desk. Usually there is not a wait to check out, but at certain times, you may have to wait a few minutes. Books circulate for 2 weeks and you can renew items up to 2 times, Renewing is easy now as it can be done on line but you can still call if you prefer. People don't realize how lucky we are in America to have such wonderful public libraries.

The RA was not helpful, it continued. Spoke with the head of the department and was treated like a complainer and not taken seriously. I personally had to go in person and speak with the roommate and was treated like the problem, when I had written proof of the bullying etc. It was my daughter's first college experience and I felt like the school failed. My daughter also is a minority student and I felt like it could have also been a reason for the lack of action and poor treatment. I eventually had to PAY for another room so she could be at peace. When she wasn't the problem! It is a beautiful campus but feels like it falls short of making minority students feel welcome. I witnessed students writing racial slurs on white boards on campus, " Jews can die", etc and profanity. Not a good look for a school to allow things like this to happen. Beware if you are a minority student, it doesn't treat you well.

Dating back to 1910, it's grown and grown to the point that it's now the third-largest university in Ohio. And of course, it's infamously known as the site where the May 4 shootings took place where the National Guard fired on students assembled and protesting in opposition to the US involvement in the Vietnam War. There is a huge memorial and of course, the Center for Applied Conflict Management that was founded after those events. [Review 1362 of 2024 - 281 in Ohio - 22385 overall]
