There is nothing redeeming about this "venue" whatsoever. Let's call it what it is, a parking lot. You stand on asphalt for the entire show. No seats, no grass. Also, since you are in a parking lot, there are light posts which will obstruct your view. Horrible. read more

First time at this venue on 8/19/23 to see Manchester Orchestra. As seasoned concert goers and festival attendees, we were really impressed with the size and logistics of this venue. At a concert last night, 7/26/23, sitting in the 2nd row of folding chairs outside. Three people in the front row of seats stood through the whole concert blocking the view for everyone who was behind them. They were asked nicely to sit down and did for 2 minutes but got back up. The staff did nothing. I bought a water for $4.50 which was warm. On a hot night you would think they would have cold water for those of us not drinking alcohol. The seating is terrible. They are small, plastic folding chairs that are jammed up next to each other. The place is a rinky-dink wanna be outdoor type venue. It's not an amphitheater. I'm splitting the difference on this with a 4 star rating and wish I could rate the indoor (3 stars) and the outdoor (5) locations seperately. No real issue with the inside other than I wish it would only be used in inclement weather. One of my favorite things is going to see my favorite artist a summer evening. There is just some sense of magic there that is muted inside. Also, the space outside feels less congested which is a major plus in my book. read more

The LC. The second floor requires you to get there early, because they now seem to block the "box" seats so you can't look over them, and the sides are insanely crowded. Downstairs - better angle, unless you're short. Really, the Newport is a better indoor venue, IMO. The bartenders? Don't order anything complex if you want to be served and not ignored. Outside? It's a great venue. I've caught several shows here, and it's hard to find a bad seat. Even the crowded shows, it's pretty easy to weave in and out of the crowds, get down in the mosh pit area, or claiming a piece of grass as your own. read more

Express Live! is probably my favorite place in Columbus to see a show. The outdoor venue has a lawn area and a "pit" area. I made the mistake of going to the pit area once, and I'll never do that again. It gets extremely crowded and there's no space to move. However, the lawn area has a large area to sit or stand. We went to the very back of the lawn seating during the last concert and it was a great experience. I would recommend finding a space in the lawn for the best concert experience. A&R Music Bar is attached to Express Live! and we went there for drinks prior to the show. There is a Mikey's inside the bar as well. The drinks were actually much more affordable than other concert venues in Columbus. This is a great place to hang out prior to the show. I understand why some people don't love Express Live! but I am always excited when an artist I like is going to be here. I went to a concert in September 2017 and they had recently updated their bag policy so make sure you check online before going to a concert! Don't be like me! My husband had to drive from Clintonville to pick up my purse because it didn't meet the size criteria for accepted bags. read more

Went to the Ken Carson concert on august 8th. Where do i start??? Showed up before doors opened. Didn't get in for 2 hours because of the slow and over the top security process (full police pat downs for a concert? never in my life have i seen this?) Missed the opener completely due to this. Finally get in around 9, and the entire place is full which is fine, but the pit was barricaded, and the inconvenient terrace area made for an easy chance for the security to harass you about where you stand, in the way or not. People were being constantly kicked out for little to no reason, security was on a power trip, the venue was NOT prepared for this show whatsoever. The merch line was a cut fest, as soon as the performer left the stage the concessions downright denied people cups for water. This place is a joke! Why would you host an electric performer like Ken when the venue looks like it could hardly host a family night out with generic live music? I can not emphasize enough how unprofessional and rude 95% of the staff was. Will NOT be back for a concert. Also, have seen tons of videos online already of people having similar experiences. Do NOT come here for anything more energetic than a jazz band. read more

I love this venue! Not a bad seat whether it's an indoor or outdoor concert. Our only issue after a seeing several shows in the last year is that they suddenly don't allow purses bigger than your hand, although their site still says larger ones are fine as long as they're see-through (like allowed in sporting events). Tons of folks had to throw away their bags or take them back to their vehicle. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this venue during the show I attended last week. Getting in was quick and easy (make sure you read their bag policy because otherwise it would not have gone well for me), and the outdoor venue is set up way better than I expected it to be. We couldn't sit on the grass because it had been pouring two hours before, but bringing a poncho or some kind of raincoat would solve that issue. (They also sell ponchos for maybe $5, I was just cheap.) I was afraid I'd be looking into the sun until it set, but since the stage faces west, that's not actually what happened. Obviously it was hot and humid, because Ohio in June, but we got as much of a breeze as a semi-enclosed space allows, so it wasn't awful. There's a good selection of food and drinks that's not entirely overpriced - yes, they're not cheap, but what venue is. Parking is pretty available and not terribly expensive - try the lot off Vine Street just east of Neil instead of the parking garages closer to the venue. read more

Another place I've been going to for years and not reviewed. When I got tickets I wasn't even sure where "Express Live" was, but assumed it was one of our current places with a new name. It used to be Promowest Pavilion, and before that the LC Pavilion, and probably something else before that. I've seen shows inside and out here, and it's a pretty good place to see either kind. Sound was great inside this time, and has been outside before. It's not huge, and always seems packed. Easy access all around, plenty of bar and food spots, with Mikey's Late Night Slice now (great to have anytime, and always friendly and fast.) Venue staff were friendly and helpful. Security procedures suck more and more, but that's not their fault. As I get older, I wish there were more places to sit inside- even just a few ledges or something. There's a balcony upstairs for VIP patrons, with tables and chairs. Restrooms are big, though access to the outside for smoking is through the same doors so things can get congested. Expensive, just like any show anymore. Plenty of parking nearby. I'll be back, and not grumble like I did about Buckeye Lake and Polaris. read more

I went to Express Live! to see/hear the Pixies for an outdoor show. I can't speak for Columbus residents, but for someone driving in from outside of the local area, I found it to be surprisingly easy to get to and was happy to find plenty of parking available within close proximity of the venue. It was also relative quick and easy getting out and back onto the interstate to go home after the show. As far as the venue itself, it had kind of an unrefined, industrial look, which was large enough to host a national act like the Pixies, but was still quite intimate. The restrooms were clean and functioning, although they didn't appear to be particularly large, which may be a good thing to consider if you're planning on having a drink or three during the show. I didn't get anything from the concession stands, but they appeared to sell the usual suspects. I was in the pit, standing mere feet from the stage. The pit was entirely standing room only, which may be a negative for many, but really didn't bother me too much. Although my ankles, knees, hip, and lower back were killing me the next day. Sightlines throughout the outdoor venue appeared good with no obstructed views to the stage. The sound was surprisingly good. It was loud, but not earsplitting. Vocals were clearly discernible and not muddled or overwhelmed by the band's instruments. Of course, that may have had more to do with the skill of the sound engineers at the mixing board, but I will give some credit to the venue, which served up a far better sonic experience than what I've experienced at other outdoor venues like the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights. Without hesitation, I'll gladly come back to Express Live! if a band or artist that I want to see is playing there. read more

Unfortunately, I didn't like this venue for the following reasons: - They let one giant line form with people seeing a concert at another venue. It stretched down the street. We had to learn from a scalper that the line for our show (Thom Yorke) was actually around the corner. This frustrated a lot of people in the line who had no clue where to wait. - My girlfriend had to put her small water bottle outside. It was 95 degrees out. - The inside of the venue was clearly not air conditioned, and ventilation was very poor. I had sweat dripping down my face most of the time. Oh, and throw a pizza oven in the venue as well, and you've got a recipe for dehydration. We actually ended up leaving early due to this. - The bar was right next to the mixer, so you could barely get through to the bathroom due to lines forming at the bar. This created an unnecessary blockage of people due to the poor layout choices. This means that if you did manage to get to the bathroom, good luck getting back to where you were standing. - There was seating available upstairs that looked to be open. We inquired with one staff member if we could use that seating, and they said yes but for a small upcharge and to talk with the people at ticket area. So, we talk with the employees working the ticket area and they say the seats are unavailable. For the remainder of the concert, we see people just taking the seats without issue (even getting drink orders delivered to them!). Very frustrating. All in all, I think this was the worst concert experience I've had. Thom Yorke is one of my favorite artists, and I needed to leave early due to the discomfort and poor organization this venue offered. I would avoid this venue if you can , we won't be going back. read more

KEMBA Live! - Lines for days due to poor communication from the event staff - Music Venues Near Me - Columbus, Ohio

Last night I went to an event at Kemba Live and was not impressed with the staff to say the least. The event was pushed back by an hour and a half after Columbus was basically just shut down due to the heat, and there were at least 15 people that passed out and were pulled out of the crowd as a result of this. At first the staff came out and started squirting water into peoples mouths, but as time dragged on, they grew impatient and annoyed with the crowd asking for water. I could hear people shouting and begging for water only to be ignored. One woman was screaming at the top of her lungs asking for water and a man in a red 'medical' shirt said "then you can go get it yourself". Moments later she passed out. I went to many events at "Express Live" but will never again attend another at Kemba Live. The rebrand apparently ripped away every shred of humanity that the staff once had. Unacceptable. read more

I love this venue! I have attended countless concerts here indoor, outdoor, and also at the A&R Music Bar. Twenty One Pilots, Paramore, A Day To Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, Don Broco, Cute Is What We Aim For, and many more!! The staff is always great, they really promote a safe but fun environment. They let you mosh, and crowd surf and it's always a good time. Things can get crowded very fast, but I think that adds to the atmosphere of attending a show! The indoor venue does get *very* hot, but that is understandable with so many bodies in one small place. The drinks are pricey, but that is to be expected. They take the lids from water that they sell, but I think that is so that if you drop it it can empty and collapse and someone doesn't trip over a full bottle. read more

Utter lack of communication for rained out show, staff members told us the show was packing up and to go home whilst the Instagram of the venue gave undetailed updates telling us to wait it out. people sat in pouring rain waiting for 2+ hours many ultimately leaving once the severe weather storm alert was announced only for the show to be reinstated at 10:30 that night. Complete and utter lack of care for those who had work or places to be the next day or who had traveled far to be there and would not have the ability to safely make it home by staying at the show. A similar event occurred a year prior to this with Tame Impala. Instead of refunding or rescheduling for the benefit of the customers, the venue insists on continuing the show in benefit to no one. read more

Express Live! offers indoor and outdoor concert venues depending on the season. I mostly go to the outdoor shows, and feel the accommodations are pretty decent. However, I just experienced my 4th indoor show (Tesla) and was thoroughly disappointed. I'm giving 3 stars for outdoor shows and if I could rate indoor shows separately, they'd get a 1 star rating. The last two concerts I've been to have been sold out. They literally pack the people in to an uncomfortable level of standing room only. Drink lines are extremely long, and good luck trying to get your spot back if you go get a drink or go to the bathroom. They also have a new purse policy that your bag can't be over 5x8x1. This rule applies to the A&R Bar and the Basement as well. Since I don't normally visit a venue website especially after being there multiple times, this policy caught us and MANY others off guard. People were stashing purses anywhere they could find that appeared "hidden" and hoped for the best. Would have been nice to be offered a clear plastic bag to at least empty valuables into to take in, but no. They weren't the least bit empathetic. The outside shows are much better, albeit the purse policy still stands. You are at least free to walk around and still get a good view of the stage. I will continue to seek out those shows for artists of interest. read more

Went to go see Tame Impala on May 26th, 2022. We arrived 2 hours early to have everyone be moved to a parking garage because of a tornado warning, then we waited another 2 hours to go back into the same line with no staff having any clue what was going on or telling anyone what to do. I asked one staff member what was going on and their response was they believed it would be canceled so I left. Come to find today that I can't even get a partial refund for my tickets. There was a complete lack of organization. I will never be going back to Kemba Live, never. This place has gone through so many name changes its enough to make your head spin, but us locals still fondly remember it as 'promowest' . The venue features both indoor and outdoor stages (it's actually the front and back side of the same stage!), and in my opinion, it offers the best outdoor concert experience in town. The Columbus skyline serves as a sparkling backdrop, and summer shows usually start at the right time to coincide with sunset. I would rate it 5 stars but the indoor experience is just ok. A balcony at the top would have made for good extra viewing when the pit below gets crowded, but there is a cash bar placed almost right up to the rail and they usually wont let you stand there and watch the show while theyre serving drinks. The staff can also tend to be a little bit grumpy overall from my experience. That said, the production company seems to do a better job hosting popular artists than other venues of the same size in the area. If you have the opportunity to hit an outdoor show here for an artist you love, youre guaranteed to be in for a treat. If it's an indoor show, you're still probably in for a treat if its not too crowded. read more

I've avoided the LC for a while mostly because I really enjoy having a seat and a bit of personal space when I go to concerts. I have never really seen the appeal of being crammed in with hundreds of strangers and having beer spilt everywhere, probably because being 5' 1" means getting pushed around quite a bit in any sort of crowd. But when I heard Of Monsters and Men was playing at the LC, I figured since they're from Iceland and might not make it back to Columbus for a while, I might as well give the LC a chance. Parking in the nearby garages and lots is usually reasonable - between $5-10, or if you don't mind a bit of a walk, you can do what I did and park for free on Neil just north of Goodale (near or just south of the Giant Eagle). The lines to enter stretched both up and down Neil. I was there about half an hour before the gates opened, and there was still plenty of space in the pit and on the lawn. When shows sell out, they are pretty much counting on everyone standing for the main act, because the lawn gets pretty packed when folks are sitting before the show and during the opening acts. I remember reading that full capacity for this set-up is a little over four thousand people. I ended up near the back of the lawn area, hoping that would give me enough height to see over the crowd, but next time I would stand at the railing near the front of the lawn area. The sound was just OK. Usually I need ear protection at big festival style concerts, but not here -- I'm not sure if the volume was too low, or if the crowd was just noisy; either way, it was a little too quiet. I'm not a huge fan of the smoking that is allowed when the shows are outdoors, but there was enough of a breeze to dissipate the smoke and also keep the temperatures low until the sun set. I'll likely be back later this summer and will update after my next concert experience! Update (6/16/13): I saw the National with Local Natives and Mount Moriah here on Saturday. This time I ended up standing at the front rail of the lawn area, just opposite the VIP seating area entry. Though I didn't have anyone standing directly in front of me, the constant traffic of people walking to get beer, use the restrooms, take photos, and generally mill about was really distracting from the performance. I think next time I might go along the front rails further towards the sides of the venue in the hopes that there'd be less traffic. I still thought the volume was a little low, especially since these were louder bands than I'd seen previously. Also, towards the end of the concert as it was nearing eleven PM, the headlining band was forced to cut their set short because of noise regulations in regards to nearby condos. This resulted in the concert being about 20 minutes shorter than other shows on the tour. I'm a little disappointed at the lack of foresight in the placement of the venue amidst residential zones, especially with the design of the outdoor amphitheater to be used primarily during summer evenings when the nights are long and warm. I suppose this could be remedied by earlier scheduling, but considering the time needed for opening acts, set changes, and concertgoers who actually have day jobs, I can't see how making the doors any earlier than 6:30 PM would be feasible. read more

Lifestyle Communities Pavilion oozes summer. I have had more good times there than JJ Walker ever had with his ladies. All tickets cost the same. You can either fight around in the pit or go out in the field with the crazies. I got stuck in the pit at a Papa Roach concert and had to scale the bars to get out. I stick to the field now...though I've had my bad experiences there too, including getting peed on by a grown man. My most anticipated concert at the LC was Incubus. The most fun concert was 311. The LC always books great bands. Beer and food prices are high, of course. Last time I went, my only food option was White Castle. Blech! Also, the bathrooms are funky. But if you're gonna drink the beer, you're gonna use the loo. Parking is easy. Leaving is a little tougher, but I refuse to miss the end of the show just to beat traffic. Luckily, there are a lot of freeways nearby so my wait has never been unreasonably long. read more

Easily accessible, awesome parking opportunities and what your eyes see and nose smells I this central city locale is sent into hyper excitement with the acts that are booked and perform here. THERE ARE FOUR VENUES IN ONE LOCALE EACH WITH THEIR INDIVIDUAL CULTURE. A & R MUSIC BAR...I've never seen a show you there. INDOOR SPACE....I'll take sweaty stink in this crowd anyday. The artists that perform inside are drawing crowds and providing sold out shows and are at the top of their artistic performance game. OUTDOOR SPACE...just like the inside space without the sweaty stink. Just put yourself on the lawn with groups of friends, add a few drinks, some Mikey's Late Night Slice and music that captures every aspect of who you are and you'll be taken away. THE BASEMENT.....you can find me here often. The artists in this space are amazing draws...The space fits their artistry and that draws me. I've had only amazing visits and I've walked away EACH performance with being blown away by artists that seem to thrive in this environment. My disposable income is linked to music. Everything I want in a concert venue and more. I recently went to the CD101 Side B Walk the Moon, The Naked and Famous, etc. show. I am a huge concert junkie. I try to go to as many as I can when bands I like are in my area. However, this was my first concert in Columbus since I moved here a few months ago. You see, I'm used to going to The House of Blues in Dallas, or sitting way back in the lawn because I can't afford anything closer. So, to my surprise, I arrived 2 hours after the gates opened and I easily made my way to the very front of the crowd. I have never been so close before the show even started. This probably won't always be the case, but boy I lucked out. Anyways, really nice place. Haven't seen the indoor venue but it's probably just as nice. The soda & water are $3.00 but that's always the case at shows. If you live near by, I really recommend taking a taxi there and back, so much easier. One complaint that is noones fault except my shortness: I'd prefer If the security didn't ruin my pictures with their heads right in the middle of the shots. read more

I would NEVER AGAIN attend an indoor concert at Express Live, not even if you gave me free tickets. It was my first time there, and I was seeing Tash Sultana... If you're into shitty sound systems and not being able to see anything, this is the place for you. The stage is far too low for anyone to see anything, and that creates a disconnection between the audience and the performer--- which fuels the large number of drunk unaware people to talk louder than the music. I have never before witnessed such a tragedy of such a talented musician being disrespected by having to fight for the attention against the obnoxious egoic selfish loudness of others. The sooner venues get on board with having boundaries against alcohol or talking during performances, the better an experience we can all have. It's 2019 and we're evolving, stop selfishly poisoning your body, and the vibes. As a person that is a trained musician, enjoys great music, and went to school for sound engineering-- I must say that seeing YouTube videos of Tash was an incredibly more fulfilling overall auditory, visual, and energetic experience than what I had to go through tonight. It was rough, and looking around and talking to others afterwards, many people felt the same way. I'm beyond disappointed, in not only this venue, but the lack of respect of others I witnessed. I came here for a Columbus Young Professional (CYP) Club 5-year anniversary tonight, since my new Cbus buddy Sophia L. invited me. Thanks to Christina C, our lovely CM, I scored a free ticket as well. However, this review is not for the CYP party, but for the LC Pavilion venue. Venue-wise, I thought it was okay. The place was big enough, and they had plenty of space, but I wasn't very impressed by the amount of their lighting. When the DJ started playing music and the host asked people to come up and dance, they didn't do anything about the lights, so not many people went up. So basically, nice place, plenty of room, convenient bar in the back, but a bit lacking in the actual entertainment arena. read more

One of the least enjoyable venues I've attended in a long time. I will not be spending money to attend events here in the future. 1) No opaque bag larger than a clutch is allowed, even if you're willing to let them search it. My purse was fairly small and I was still ordered back to my car. 2) Extremely intrusive auto-pat-down for everyone walking in the door. Seriously if you're this worried start using metal detectors and wands so we don't have to get groped and can actually carry a modestly-sized bag. I understand the need for security, but there are better and more respectful ways to do it. 3) And after all this, nowhere to check my coat so I could actually go out and enjoy the dance floor. This was a rave. Seriously. You can make money on a coat check. No one wants to have to choose between freezing in the security line out the door without a coat or having to carry their coat on their person all night. You can do a lot better Express Live. read more

I have not be here to see a show in for-ev-errrr so when our friend who is on tour with Cage the Elephant called us up and said "hey, wanna come to the show tonight...for freeee?", my husband and I were like "yes, yes we do". The show was outdoors, which I was excited about because back in my younger years, I had only been to indoor shows here. For the purpose of this review, the outdoor stage area will be my focus. Here's a little secret: if you come to a show here, enter through A&R bar. There's practically no wait to get in that way. Or you could wait in a line that will probably wrap around the building. It's your choice. After the opening act starts, you can go into A&R bar for drinks. I like how the grass seating is sloped so there isn't really a bad place to sit and still have a good view of the stage. Food and drink prices aren't too terrible. I look forward to seeing more outdoor shows here in the warm months. read more

I've been to one concert here and it's a great venue for a concert. They have both outdoor and indoor concerts - the one I went to was outdoors. Great atmosphere on the hill. I also went to the Columbus summer beerfest recently and it worked well for that sort of event as well. They serve standard beers and they also serve Mikey's late night slice, which is a HUGE bonus. I wish there were more good concerts coming through the LC because I would like to more often. **The A&R Music Bar is right next door and they have a patio. My partner and I were really excited to get to a concert early here. I wasn't aware they have a bag policy that does not allow backpacks. All good, this makes sense, who needs an 30L backpack in a venue. However, i brought my very small mini backpack not knowing this policy of course. The staff was complete jerks and told me to either empty it and leave the bag at the front, where they would not be held liable, or put it in our car. We told them we took an Uber to the venue, and they suggested that we "cut the straps off the backpack" to allow it in. I cannot comprehend how they were unwilling to permit a mini bag inside solely based on having straps, when my bag was smaller than anyone else's who was there. People had tote bags and it was fine. Seems more reasonable to just allow certain sized bags, or better yet, just not be a dick about informing someone of it. read more

We saw Mt. Joy and Rainbow Kitten Surprise indoors last night and it was such an amazing show! The concert was sold out but it didn't feel too crowded. We got a good spot as general admission and could see the stage perfect. Great atmosphere. read more
