Truly, Hobnob Corner has a great wine list. This is the restaurant to visit in downtown Nashville…read moreif you want a nice glass of wine (or two, I don't judge) with your lunch, or perhaps even your breakfast (again, not judging). I couldn't help myself when I saw that they were featuring two special wines, and one of them was a Sauvignon Blanc called Sincerite. I had never tasted this particular wine, but it sounded special! And sincere! It was good, but maybe a little too sweet for my palate. Isn't that sometimes the way with those earnest wines? I visited for lunch when I just wanted a little something. So I got the soup of the day -- a bean and beef number in a tomatoey broth. It came with a fennel-seed-studded roll. The soup was amazing and tasted like something a mom or dad or grandma or grandpa would make: just kind of simple and hearty and good. I also got the Hobnob Green Salad, which is mesclun topped with shredded cheese, mushrooms, cubes of turkey and croutons. I'm not a big fan of raw mushroom slices in general, and particularly on a salad, so I picked off the mushrooms like a petulant child and ate the rest of the salad. My soup and salad went really well with my cold glass of Sauv Blanc. Hobnob Corner was very busy when I visited! Nashville is a place that gets lots of visitors, and this restaurant, which is located on the corner of a busy intersection in downtown Nashville, is no exception. But I was able to get a table right away, even though I was a party of one. There is no bar here, by the way. Even though they were busy, the service was quick and friendly. They also have a pastry selection in a display case in the front of the restaurant. You can pop in and grab a cookie or pastry, if you want.

Our whole family came along, and we were excited to try it out. I ordered the tenderloin sandwich, and while it wasn't bad, it didn't really stand out either -- just OK. That seemed to be the theme across the table. Nothing was terrible, but nothing wowed us either. It's a nice spot for a sit-down meal if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Solidly average.

Our tour included basic bourbon making, and a tasting in the distilling area. Full bar with signature cocktails, if you're going in town to big woods you might find the same cocktails at a lower price?! Our favorite was the sweat mash bourbon. They are planning on having some bourbon aged in white oak barrels from wood harvested from the distillery grounds. Pro tip if you are the first tour of the day, the visitor center did not open before the "start" time of the tour.

There's so much to experience -- from tours and tastings to different activities -- and the food menu is just as impressive as the drinks. Our family loves their cinnamon vodka, so grabbing a bottle was a must. I ordered the Valentine's Day French Kiss cocktail, which was bubbly, light, and super refreshing. We shared the Pulled Pork Nachos and the Grilled Cheese -- the pulled pork was incredibly flavorful and definitely the standout. I personally would've loved a few extra toppings on the nachos, but overall everything was fantastic. Between the atmosphere, friendly service, delicious food, and great drinks, it was a 10/10 experience. Shout out to our server, Gus! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the Nashville, IN area!

We love that they walk you through all the ingredients and even give you recipe cards so you can try to make it at home. Somehow it's never quite the same when we make it ourselves, which is exactly why we keep coming back to enjoy it firsthand. We've also done the tour multiple times, and it's always a great experience--very informative and well done. The tastings along the way are a lot of fun and just add to the overall experience. Great drinks, great staff, and always worth the stop.

When people think of whiskey in Indiana's Brown County, they might think of that other place. (You…read moreknow the one.) But there is another distillery quietly making small-batch, high-quality spirits in Nashville, and that's Bear Wallow Distillery. Located just outside of downtown Nashville, Bear Wallow Distillery is one of the only female-owned distilleries in the country. They create their spirits in a traditional copper pot still, which I learned is unique. Inside the tasting room, you can enjoy a whiskey tasting or a flight, or sip a craft cocktail and relax in the shop. I chose to enjoy a "Call Me Old Fashioned" standing up at the bar, while chatting with the guy who made me my drink. My Old Fashioned was well balanced, not too sweet and made me feel all warm inside, as a good Old Fashioned should. Those who are interested in learning more about the whiskey-making craft can go on a Farm-to-Fifth Tour, which takes you behind the scenes to learn about the history of whiskey and see the full production process. I did, and I found it very informative! I had a new appreciation for the kind of whiskey and spirits they are making here at Bear Wallow Distillery. From the ingredients they choose to the barrels they use, they really put their foot in it, as they say. If you like whiskey, or just like to try local spirits, this is a good place to visit in Nashville.
