The café had a great interior and atmosphere, but the food was a let down. The quiche was overcooked such that there was great difficulty cutting through the pastry. My husband and I have just returned from a visit to Kelly-Anns and cannot express how deeply disappointed we are. We have been visiting this coffee shop whenever we are in the area since 2003 however today will be our last visit. The quality of food was very low although the prices were not, and the service was about the worst I have experienced anywhere. read more

Cracking little coffee shop, lovely cakes, decent coffee!

This used to be a fantastic coffee shop but has gone back a little. Food is ok and cakes are nice. Staff do take their time in serving but not a bad place overall. read more

friendly staff , food not wot expected

Not good. Years since I visited and today it was filthy. The dirt was visible everywhere and cross contamination a real risk. That bad I checked hygiene score and in November 2013 it was awarded 0 stars. Will never return until food hygiene score is 4 or above. read more

Don't order a cake from here. If you want a cake from Kelly Anne, please contact her studio in Houghton-le-Spring. Details are on the web. I ordered a cake for my parent's 50th Wedding Anniversay and please let this be a warning to anyone thinking of doing the same......for any occassion. It was an abosulte disgrace - a five year old could have decorated it better. For £90, It had horrible stick on letters.....yes, stick on and they were too big for the cake that the word 'Anniversay' didn't even appear. It read 'happy 50th wedding' and no, they hadn't been married 50 times. And don't get me started on the rest of it!! They may show you a lovely picture of what they will do, as they had shown my sister but this is not what you will get. My mistake was thinking Kelly Anne was still behind the shop in Bishop Auckland and she isn't. The current owner did say she had taken over three months ago and is still showcasing Kelly Anne's cakes on the website. She didn't say none of these cakes were hers!! Needless to say a bit argument ensued when collecting the monstrosity. It was very upsetting. read more

we came in for tea coffee one week breakfast was ok but wont order again then we desided to come in to give cakes ago while servis was exerlent i order chocolet fuge cake it was dry has out and that old it was more like biscuit then cake no way it was fress i make cakes at home never have they been like this i tock left overs home even my dog would not toch this cake must of been weeks old no way in hell was it fress when useing spoon it broke like biscuit this is way out of order no wonder cofe always got noone in it if there seviveing food that is weeks old and made me ill so iv reported it to environmental health i was ill with in 2 hours of eating there and that day that was all i had due to my helth be being ill can be dangerul tock me 3 days befor i was well enoth again iv never eating out that bad befor i had chaoclet fuge cake which could been used has door stop it was that hard gone to the dogs no onder every time we go past noone in there or if there is they only have drinks read more
