Had Joe B. out yesterday for a checkup for my mini splits that were install this past May and he was great! Didn't even know my system did heat! Very valuable news since our oil furnace had been red flagged and have been without heat, while waiting for a new furnace, for several days! He was very helpful and personable. Also made a recommendation for a surge protector for our system but was not pushy at all. A+ service from him! On a different note when my system was installed in May no one mentioned they did heat. Also the wall surrounding my electrical box was damages during install and I reported the problem, to Rusty, but nothing was ever done about it. I got distracted after 6 emails, I had a newborn baby to take care of, and just never remembered to get back in touch. read more

We have them come out twice a year for check-ups and cleanings, they always set up a time window for the appointment and call when they are on the way and they have always been right on time. I've used Kellam Mechanical for almost 2 years. Signed up for the contract service. Due to two negative experiences with them I have decided to end my service with them and go with another company. First issue happened after the summer service visit. 1 day after the service visit my AC overflowed and leaked through the ceiling. The service technician forgot to blow out the drain line. Kellam Mechanical sent out the service manager and 2 other technicians to make it right. Second issue just happened during my winter service call. The Technician informed me I needed 2 new thermostats at a cost of $600 each for a whopping total of $1200! I looked online and found the same thermostats for $140 each. Needless to say I politely declined and placed an order on Amazon and received the new thermostats in 2 days. I also looked at previous invoices and noticed that all of the parts they have sold me in the past had a huge mark-up. I understand businesses make money off parts, but the mark-up Kellam Mechanical is charging is absurd. Additionally, their contract service is twice as expensive as other companies. I have a real dilemma. My downstairs bathrm, which is a very small add on Was leaking due to the wax ring being worn. Micheal and Sons put on a wax ring. However, the tile has water under it, the grout is chipping. Needless to say our subfloor is taking a hit. We are in a fix having already spent over $3,000.00.(a long story) we can't afford another penny. Ask for Chris Y as the best HVac guy I had compared to other comrades who served my home recently.My Nest thermostat was saying that no Hvac is connected and Chris found out that the drainage line was clogged up It was so bad that he had to return and fix it 3x in one day Nevertheless, he had that friendly and patient smile to fix it until it's done He even mentioned that I can call him anytime even at night if I still had the same problem.Fortunately not. Additionally, there were other problems that came up but Chris fixed them and went beyond just to ensure that my Hvac system works well. He is very knowledgeable,professional, friendly,funny, dedicated, reliable and most of all punctual in every appointments. I highly recommend him as ur Hvac guy at Kellam!! I've initially had another technician who came out to check my hvac but I only felt that he wanted to rip me off with his stupid suggestions just to make a profit, instead of listening to what I have to say with my hvac problem. Get 2nd opinions before you trust what they tell you. During a routine maintenance on my HVAC system that they installed, the tech said he needed to bring in a senior tech to double check some numbers that were high. The senior tech comes out and tells me that I need to replace a particular part on my outside unit. The part is supposedly under warranty but the labor would cost me $1400. The unit is only 3 years old, and the way he said it, made me not trust him. So I said I would wait on it. I got 2 other opinions, both of which told me that my unit doesn't even have this part in the first place. I went to Kellam and told them about it. They checked and no my unit doesn't have it. In fact, nothing is wrong with unit what so ever. Runs great. I canceled my service with them. read more

I called Kellam to service our new Virginia Beach home as I thought they were an honest company. My original HVAC tech was very nice and professional. He was so friendly he tricked me into the one year service plan on my two properties at the one address. He also told me he needed to order my replacement filters. He did not tell me they were 30 day filters and he was ordering 5 cases...5 cases...which he charged to my visa without my approval.....He serviced my A/C.last August which was good. Since the property is only 3 years old, everything is practically new so little was needed. The "Office" scheduled my "Winter" inspection. I was unable to be there due to a family emergency but gave the same tech access to my home. I told him where the keys were for the other unit. He decided, for whatever reason, that he would come back for the 2nd unit on another day...I paid another bill I was sent. When it fit "his" schedule to come back I was at the hospital with my mother (chemo) and offered for him to enter once again without me there. The office decided I stood him up and though they kept my 940.00 paid for one year...they never serviced my home as contracted because I was at the hospital with my dying mother. When I called and asked to speak to the owner...I was told he would call me...but his very rude "wife" never followed through. What protects the consumer? They know this is a vacation home. Why are they making it so difficult? I am not impressed. They seem very crooked. It is sad. My hope is someone other than the very unfeeling wife who answers the phone will read this review and make sure that customers are not taken advantage of in the future....you would think a customer with two homes which means two hvac, two generators, two hot water heaters, etc....would be a client they would seek...not steal from read more

Our furnace went out yesterday so we called Kellam to schedule a service call. WE were offered an emergency call for last night or wait until morning. We decided to wait. Kelllam Mechanical followed up @ 7:35 this morning to schedule the service. To my surprise it was scheduled for 8AM this morning. Talk about fast. Techs (Josh and Kyle) showed up on time were courteous, professional and friendly. The furnace was fixed quickly and prior to any work all charges were clearly explained to my satisfaction. I wouldn't even give them a single star, but you have to give something to even pen your grievances. These frauds quoted a time that they could arrive that worked with the time I needed. The technician called to inform me that it would be hours later before they would arrive. I informed them that this change would not work for my tenant. As soon as he realized I was a Landlord, he made it a point to get there around the time that I needed. He contacted me to let me know that there were a bullet point of fees that I would need to be aware of addressing. The issue I was having was the A/C wasn't blowing cold air. He recommended that I search for a leak to find the problem, because that was most likely the problem. I agreed to look for the leak, because that sounded like a logical solution. The technician called me back and told me that I would require a new coil, which would cost $4,000 and take three days before they could install it. I told him to go ahead and leave. He sent me this assessment: "upon arriving filter completely matted over. Took out filter and Checked pressures. Found system low on R22 refrigerant. Both indoor and outdoor coils need to be clean. Got approval to perform leak search. Found leak in outdoor coil at U-bend on left side. Outdoor unit was manufactured 1998. Need to replace coils and clean indoor coil before we are able to charge system with refrigerant. Called customer and informed them of price for repair. Customer said no and does not want to go any further with us. I asked customer if they would like me to send another technician out for a 2nd opinion and customer declined." I then had a family friend come to the house. He contacted me after assessing the situation to tell me that there was NO LEAK. Then, he cleaned a line out and it began blowing cold air. It has been working perfectly ever since. What our friend did was so insignificant that he didn't even charge me for what he did. So it cost me $267.00 - $89.00 for Kellam Mechanical to make a drive to my house and another $178.00 to flat our lie to me. They almost fleeced me for FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS on the same LIE. Freaking criminal robbery. DON'T EVER USE THEM...EVER. read more

Contacted them on Saturday for an emergency service call due to the furnace they installed only 4 years ago quitting. It is now 2 days later and I have yet to receive a call regarding service. My A/C went out last week just after those 100f days, I looked on Yelp to find top companies and found Kellam Mechanical Inc. which is also close to my house. The service lady scheduled a tech to come out the following day (Friday). I was out of town that day but my wife was there to show the tech the unit, he quickly found a bad part and replaced it but the computer was still giving an error. Further trouble-shooting for the compressor had a thermal problem. The company got the part on order (not locally stocked) and had us up and running Tuesday morning. We've used Kellam Mechanical for years and signed up for their service contract. In the beginning their service was good. We paid the extra money because they were supposed to be the "best" in the area. Well let me tell you our past 2 experiences with them serving our air systems have been costly and infuriating. I just spent the weekend with my husband installing two window units ($400) so our tenants would not have to suffer the 90+ heat. Mind you the air conditioning was not broken and was working fine when the technician did the service of cleaning the system. After causing the problem, Kellam reported back to us that there was a small leak in the system and to let us know we need freon. Instead of putting in stop leak and more freon, they leave without performing any fix whatsoever. We paid another company to come in and actually do what should have been done by Kellam and now the system is working again. Back in the winter, they forgot to turn the unit back on when servicing our furnace during 0 degree weather, which froze up the system. They had to come back with heaters to thaw out the system and left us without heat for another day. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON KELLAM MECHANICAL! read more
