In this case I did while mistakingly waiting for the waiter to come take our order. There is abundant criticism out there. After 5-10 minutes someone told us that it was self-service. Throughout the breakfast we humored ourselves about the unapologetically slow service. The waiters took the hint but didn't make any effort to win us back. Regardless, the food was truly worthy. The bread tasted homemade and looking into the kitchen from back room, you'd believe it. Good croissants and coffee but be willing to wait. Based on the absence of friendliness, we won't be back but if you're looking for a good breakfast in prenzlauer berg and have plenty of patience, give this place a try.

I ordered a Milchkaffe and a small plate of cheese, coldcuts, fruit and bread. The Milchkaffe was very good as was the food! Both were a very good deal. My only issue (and why this is 4 instead of 5 stars) were the WASPS! They didn't bother me until my food arrived. One became two, became three, became TEN. They didn't sting me or really acknowledge me at all but it became really unpleasant having to constantly swat them away. I eventually ran inside and asked if I could change tables, and a server helped me move my things. It was a little bit better further from the tree/bushes, but I still ended up cramming my breakfast into my face as fast as possible just to be rid of the buzzy jerks (one almost flew in my mouth with a forkful of cheese). At least I wasn't their only target as three different tables near where I had first sat ended up moving inside or just further away (and at least I didn't shriek like one of them hahaha). I've heard most cafes have this issue and no one ever gets stung... But it still was very unpleasant. The service was excellent and the prices were right, I just could have done without the wasps. If you're just having drinks you'll be fine, but maybe sit inside of you want to eat wasp-bait.

When we walked in all the tables were "reserved" but apparently they're not if you don't order anything from the kitchen because they couldn't handle the pressure, when we said we wanted cake we were "allowed" to sit on one of the tables. We've ordered three cakes - Apple strudel which is a huge slice of it in warm vanilla sauce. Black magic - a super concentrated chocolate cake Hazelnut caramel pie - which was buttery and had a generous layer of chocolate on top, sweet just in the right amount. Unfortunately, I sat by the bar and I saw that drinks are standing on the counter for several minutes (coffee should be served as quick as possible, everything else can wait for a while) Also, our cakes were on the counter for a while, I wanted them so bad that I almost got up and took them myself! The strudel was served in two minutes and for everything else we waited for like 15. Weird. But it was noticeable they couldn't handle the pressure and the amount of orders. Too bad, I'm sure it's nicer when it's a bit more laid back.

There isn't much space to sit inside but there is enough outside. The bread, coffee, cakes and pizza are amazing here and what makes it even better is knowing the background and the history of this bakery. We were lucky enough to learn about it during the open bakery tour, which takes place once a year. We learned that they get their grains locally for years from the same organic farmer. They have two mills grinding their own flour. And a system that transfers the flour into the bakery, where it is still prepared and kned the old traditional way. All with a lot of love and passion. The bakery is owned by six partners at the moment and creates this unique love for their profession that is reflected in the quality of their products. I am so impressed by this entire concept that from today on I am committed to buy my bread only here and no longer at the grocery store. If you haven't been here yet, do take the trip and try their bread/pastries and ask tge staff any questions you have, they are always helpful and friendly. This place has also a small room where they sell baking items and organic products. Extra tip: Customers may also purchase their own dough to bake it at home.

What a cool little bakery!…read more My German Airbnb host recommended this place as a wonderful organic bakery which is right around the corner to her apartment in Charlottenburg. One Friday morning, I took a stroll to get breakfast. As soon as you step in, you feel welcomed - the bakery is warm and cozy. One of the staff behind the countered said hello; when I asked if he spoke English, he explained a little bit about the bakery and handed me a menu describing the bread and pastries. The place is most famous for their whole wheat breads, though they have breads made with spelt and rye which sound like they are gluten free. There is a chalkboard on the wall which describes which days of the week certain types of loaves of bread are made -- how organized and cool is that! I had the obst-quark pastry (pinwheel type pastry with cherry inside) and süsse münder (a small cashew type of pastry) plus coffee. The only downside to the cafe is that there is not much seating, though I was able to share a spot with one of the regulars in the seating room/ shop area. A nice bakery oasis in this heavily residential area - I highly recommend you check it out if you love pastries and bread.

People are sitting at a table drinking coffee at any hour of the day. * * * They run a non-trivial breakfast business. Those breakfasts are simple but very good. The spine of those breakfasts are the two rolls that come on the side. The rolls are not at all heavy when you eat them, But they are very filling. You could just do coffee and the rolls along with some butter or jelly And you are good to go with breakfast. Generally though, what will be interesting are the plates that are your main dish. Breakfasts come in two varieties: Scrambled eggs various ways, with fruit and vegetable garnishes on the side. Simple raw ingredient plates various ways with fruit and vegetable garnishes on the side. Cold cuts various ways and sausages various ways appear in numerous forms. I had the cheese plate. What you get is ten slices or triangles - two each of five different supermarket cheeses. Supermarket cheeses are perfectly fine in Germany. They studiously avoid Limburger and the Limburger family. * * * Tangent: Limburger Cheese Actual German grocery stores, organic grocery stores and any upscale cheese shop that sells German rather than imported cheeses will have lots and lots of Limburger variations. I recommend them enthusiastically. I would rather do a good German "rotten stinky" cheese Than do an elderly Brie or an elderly Camembert. To be sure - Limburger requires care and attention. You have to pack it in your refrigerator in a hard container with lots of foil and paper and other things around it. Otherwise, everything in your refrigerator will smell like Limburger And so will you every time you open the refrigerator door. But a good Limburger family member makes it all worthwhile. * * * Back to Backerei Suss: They serve you from the blander side of the German industrialized cheese palette. Some of those options are first rate. They do an industrialized feta cheese that is much much better than an American industrialized feta. Cheddar, Gouda, Swiss and a spongy creamy white cheese I could not identify all made appearances. I was happy to have them all. The fruit and vegetable garnish on the side was good. My macchiato was great. My rolls were yeoman citizens who did their job. By the time I got up from the table, I had had my grand bouffe. I had had nothing fancy or remarkable. But I was ready to go all the way through till dinner And lunch be damned. I was fed. * * * Ain't nothing wrong with a good filling breakfast.
