Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory - John Katora, FD

Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory

My family used Heffner Funeral Chapels & Crematory for the first time in 1982 when my grandmother…read morepassed away. They did such a fantastic job that when other members of the family became ill or died suddenly, we would immediately contact Heffner to make arrangements. When my dad entered hospice care in April and we had to face the fact that he would never get better, we once again contacted Heffner. We selected his coffin and flowers arrangements and went over his life's history with a staff member. Knowing that my dad served in the Army and worked for US AID, he was offered full military honors. We were quite appreciative of that. However, after much discussion with my parents, they opted only for the flag over his casket and declined the rest of the traditional honors. My parents wanted a more intimate Catholic Mass and burial with family and friends only. My dad passed away on August 16, 2016 at 2:30am. Even at that early hour, two members of Heffner came dressed in full suit and tie to collect my dad. They treated his remains with the utmost care and respect and had a flag ready to drape over his body. On the day of my dad's funeral (Tuesday August 23, 2016), Heffner's staff worked tirelessly to guide, seat, offer condolences, and hand out tissues, prayer books, and keepsakes to our 300+ guests at their funeral home, at St. Jospeh's Catholic Church, and at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Every guest commented on how peaceful my dad looked, how beautiful the flowers were, how dignified the whole day was, and how wonderfully Heffner's staff catered to everyone. The Heffner family has been in the funeral business for over 100 years. They believe in their services and offer a 100% money back guarantee. I highly recommend them and would use their services again when it is time to say good-bye to another loved one.

I choose Heffner because when my father passed years prior, they provided the same great service. It seems like a consistently they seem to have time after time. Thank you Heffner for helping us during the painful grieving process of placing our loved family members to rest in a respectful and honorable way.

Weaver Memorials

Weaver Memorials

Working with Weaver Memorials has been one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences…read moreI've ever endured. I placed an order for my late father's headstone at their York location in December 2024. It took me time to work up the courage to get this done, but I chose to support a local, family-owned business, believing I would receive care and professionalism during such a sensitive time. Unfortunately, what I received was the complete opposite. From the very beginning, this process has been emotionally exhausting and filled with unprofessionalism. When I placed the order, I made it clear--multiple times--that the headstone needed to be flat due to cemetery regulations. This requirement had been discussed months earlier when I obtained a quote, and I reiterated it during my December visit. The employee I worked with assured me she would verify this with the cemetery before finalizing the order. She even consulted with her supervisor, who is part of the family that owns Weaver Memorials. Despite these assurances, I was contacted days later and told that the stone I purchased could not be placed in the cemetery. This happened even though I was explicitly promised verification beforehand. To make matters worse, instead of immediately correcting the mistake, the office attempted to upsell me on a more expensive stone in order to reduce my refund. I had to insist that the order be modified to a compliant flat headstone of the same material. I was repeatedly promised a refund within 3-5 business days, and an addendum to the order confirmed this. However, two weeks later, no refund had been issued. When I followed up in January 2025, I was told something completely different--that I would not receive the refund until the headstone was placed, which could take six months. This was a direct contradiction of their written promise and completely unacceptable. It left me feeling deceived, financially strained, and taken advantage of after I had already paid in full. For months, I emailed multiple people and made numerous calls, but received little to no response. By May, I still had no refund, and the headstone had not been placed. When I contacted them for an update, I was told they had been waiting on me to approve a sketch they had "supposedly" emailed. I had never received such an email or proof, and during those 5-6 months, no one followed up with me even once. Their negligence delayed both the placement of my father's headstone and my refund by another 6-8 weeks. Then, on August 4, 2025--my sister's death anniversary--I visited the cemetery and discovered my father's headstone (next to hers) had been placed without my knowledge. No one from Weaver Memorials contacted me to inform me it was installed, nor did they notify me that my refund would finally be processed. When I called, I was told it had been placed in mid-July, meaning weeks had gone by without any communication. Even then, I had to follow up twice more before my refund was finally issued. What makes this experience even more infuriating is that this seems to be a disturbing trend in this industry. When my sister passed 10 years ago, I faced similar problems with the ordering of her headstone--delays, lack of communication, and broken promises. To see the same unprofessional patterns repeating a decade later is deeply troubling and unacceptable. This entire ordeal has been unacceptable. Instead of easing a painful process, Weaver Memorials caused unnecessary emotional and financial hardship at one of the most vulnerable times in my life. Their repeated lack of professionalism, broken promises, failure to communicate, and outright negligence are inexcusable. I regret ever placing my trust in this company, and I would strongly caution anyone against doing the same.
