I have vague memories of maybe visiting this place in the depths of time gone by, although with most National Trust properties - they are much of a muchness. Once you've seen one stately home you kinda get the gist. As you would expect, it's pretty impressive. The driveway must be nearly a mile long to get to the property (and is a little dicey, so be prepared to close your eyes if you're an insecure passenger) and the place is surrounded by rolling green fields. I would imagine in the summer you might see deer (or at least cattle) strolling around as you approach the house. The house itself is pretty magnificent. Some of it's buildings are constructed in what I imagine to be sandstone and the main building is bright white and looks very well kept. There is plenty of parking to be had on site and as well as the house there are gorgeous gardens, a tea room a gift shop and all of the facilities you would expect from a National Trust property. The Christmas event is wonderful. As well as numerous market stalls under cover at the front of the building with lots of craft and local produce, there was live music and food being served all through the day. Once we had gotten in to the market, we grabbed a hot food and a warm drink and began to plan our day. The market had a great selection of gifts to be had! Everything from handmade toys, jewellery, clothing and food was on offer for very reasonable prices. We picked up some great presents (and a little something for me, of course) and had a really nice time chatting to the stall holders who explained how everything was made and where ingredients etc were sourced from. The inside of Shugborough had been specially with a "Christmas by candlelight" theme. Only the downstairs was open (apparently the upstairs is open normally) and all of the rooms were decorated with gorgeous bouquets of flowers, candles and decked out with Christmas trinkets. The staff were also wearing the clothing of the era and were on hand to answer any questions about the house, the history or anything in the rooms. Entrance for an adult to get into both the hall and the market was £8 in advance. I felt this was a fair price to have a look around the house, the gardens and the markets. Obviously a lot of effort goes into making everything look just right for the occasion and it felt very festive. I would recommend a visit to Shugborough during the Christmas event or at any point in the year if you're a fan of stately homes. The gardens must look magnificent in the Summer when everything is in bloom, but even in winter we had a lovely wander around admiring them. I would recommend the hall as a nice afternoon out for the family.

I have to strongly agree with a former post on here that was written by a skype user..this was…read morewritten in 2009 and it is shocking to feel the same way five years later ...he writes ''Having recently visited the Boat Museum at Ellesmere Port with a friend, I can certainly report that the various levels of advertising about the Museum are utterly false, which I have formally written to complain about. Importantly the Museum falsely advertises what a great place to visit, and continues to utilise a lot of extreme artistic licence in photos and text to promote the Museum. The 21st Century displays are mostly out of order. There were no volunteers in period costumes as promoted. On exhibit (the Stables) is empty and pointless. Other exhibits like the steam engines weren't working, with signs saying out of order. The Archive Centre was completely closed to the public. There are only few boats to be seen, and these are very rusty, dilapidated old barges that are water logged, mostly filled with debris and green slime.'' This place did feel like a ship graveyard and would make a good movie set for a ghost ship themed scene.. There were so many boats rotting on the sides, no actors in period costumes,,,half the buildings were closed off to public..and those that were open were just like walking in yours nans living room...which I can do that for free..The blacksmith was not even there,,but had left a catalogue with some of his works you could buy..which were great looking I have to say..so if you a fancy a lord of the rings themed gate, you know where to go.. The only redeeming feature that this place had was a 1000+ year old boat found from an archaeological dig (although the other boats looked like this) and the cafe..which sold cheap and cheerful homemade basics such as pies and jacket potatoes.. We paid £6.50 to get in...which didn't seem bad at the time...but I would save that money and go for a pint instead with Titanic playing in the background

The National Waterways Museum (once known as the Boat Museum) hosts a lovely waterside setting…read more The museum nestles on the banks of the Manchester ship canal and the Mersey in Ellsmere Port's fine Victorian canal docks. It's home to a remarkable collection of boats from inland waterways which include narrowboats, barges, ice breakers and much more. A memorable canal trip takes you through an industrial waterscape, which is rich in stories and wildlife. The tour allows you to look into the lives of boat people who travelled the canals and the families who lived and worked on the docks. There's plenty of space to let off steam, quiet corners for picnics and trails to follow which makes it a warm welcome for families. Visitor prices are reasonable, costing just £6 for an adult and £4 for a child (aged 5 to 16). Concessions are £5 and under 5's are free. As a whole, I would recommend this trip if you are interested in soaking up some local flavour as there is lots to see and do. With flotillas of historic boats and fascinating indoor displays, the National Waterways Museum is a great day whatever the weather.

this place is based on the big new complex on dunwoody way (the new road that leads down past…read moremorrissons supermarket). on the complex there is a pizza hut restaurant, a reel cinema, bowling alley and ofcourse MECCA BINGO! i have only been here a couple of times and both times i was signed in as a guest as i had gone along with a member. the place inside is huge!! there is a great atmosphere in here as it has been really busy the times i have visited - with people of all ages i might add - literally from youngsters (i assume it is over 18's in here but im not certain) but all the way up to old dears in their 80's who come out for a gossip and catch up with their friends and a cheery game of bingo! the entrance as you go in is all nice and new (the whole place is with it not being built that long ago) but there is an amusement arcade right by the entrance with all neon and lights to give it that glitzy vegas feel. if you like a good game of bingo this is an ideal place as you have the chance to take part in both local (just the crewe bingo hall) and national games where all the mecca halls across the uk take part - this is a huge amount of money for the prize. and there is always a good reception for you - staff seem friendly and helpful, drinks at the bar are pretty reasonable too. the only drawback is that you do tend to get older more mature people that play religously every day or week and they don't seem to like it if you are a 'newbie' and win anything. - i think they believe that they are entitled to win with them visiting every day! apart from this it is a great place for a bit of lighthearted fun.

Someone called the 2nd house only to be told that they were missing number 57 to complete the house, this number had been called several numbers beforehand and people using the paper books had marked it off Apparently it had not shown up on the max boards or lit up above the caller, the manager was called to sort it out but could not see what the problem was, the house was then called by someone else on a different number.Several people informed the manager that they had previously marked number 57 off on their books but he would not accept that, saying that it could not have been called. I would like to know how so many people had marked it off if it hadnt been called, the game was a farce ! I was with a friend for the bingo this evening so you have now lost 2 paying guests for future sessions. I am not saying this as sour grapes, I was nowhere near to winning but I feel it is so unfair on the person who rightly should have had the prize money.
