what is it about kebabs that is so universally appreciated? is it the illusion of convenience -- everything neatly wrapped up in a warm fluffy pita? the vaguely middle eastern spice? its appeal as late-nite drunk food? maybe all of the above?
in korea this was my street food of choice. in france these businesses have the class to situate themselves in actual buildings, but the on-the-fly style ordering and limited menu choices remain the same. beef or lamb; sandwich or wrap; spicy or mild. that's about it.
i really have no complaints about Efe's. it wasn't sub-par, but it didn't blow my mind. it was exactly par. keep in mind i know nothing about golf, but suffice it to say that this place was almost exactly average, from the decor to the service to the food. and that's not a bad thing when it comes to kebabs. no sense in messing with a working formula, and from a business point of view, this establishment probably wouldn't see profits triple if they decided to spend more time perfecting the details that would grant them the elusive 5 stars.
hmm. i guess that's about it. conclusion: kebabs are great, and hard to fuck up, but i guess they're also hard to make mind-blowing. read more
