Chris Kearney combines care, compassion and extraordinary skill in the one package. He is one of the relatively few dermatologists in Sydney trained to conduct the exacting Mohs surgical procedure to remove certain skin cancers. It is a complex procedure that can take an entire day, but it is the gold standard, not only for effectiveness in removing all traces of the cancer, but in minimising loss of skin for the patient and subsequent aesthetic damage. The whole process, from pre-surgery consultation, through to the actual surgery and after care, is meticulous and centred on the total wellbeing of the patient. I had a reasonably extensive Mohs procedure on my forehead after a conventional excision failed to remove all the cancer. In addition to surgical excellence, Chris has structured the day to be as comfortable possible for the patient. Between iterations of the surgery, I and my partner were in our own private waiting room, with full recliner chairs, access to Netflix and a snack bar. I experienced no discomfort or distress at all during the day. Now, less than two weeks after the surgery, my partner is having trouble locating most of the scar line to place the silicone tape Chris recommends for better healing, such is the quality of his work.
