My experience at Tranquility by the Sea was, without exaggeration, the most disappointing spa experience I have ever had. What was meant to be a thoughtful Valentine's Day gift for my boyfriend turned into a frustrating and unprofessional ordeal from start to finish.
I booked a dermaplaning facial. The only enjoyable portion of the service was the brief massage at the beginning. When the esthetician began the dermaplaning, she commented that she was "not getting much" and proceeded to show me the tool she was using, which was a plastic brow-shaping razor identical to the kind sold at Walmart or TJ Maxx for a few dollars. When paying for a professional dermaplaning service, I expect professional-grade tools and techniques, not something I already own at home.
The service continued to decline from there. The jelly mask application was excessively heavy, resulting in product running down my face, into my ears, into my hair, and down my neck. I had to sit up mid-service to remove my earrings because they were covered. By the end, the product was on my hands as well. The overhead light remained on during the mask and massage, making the experience unrelaxing and uncomfortable. Additionally, the website states that cold globes are included in the facial, however they were not used.
When I returned to my car and looked in the mirror, I found significant amounts of the jelly mask still on my face, neck, and in my hair. That was the moment I realized this was not just a subpar experience, but it was unacceptable for a paid professional service.
I contacted the spa and later received a call from Misty Melvin. Unfortunately, the conversation lacked any acknowledgment or accountability. I was offered $20 and told I would receive a follow-up call the next day. I did not receive that call or any refund. When I called back four days later, the conversation deteriorated further. Rather than addressing the concerns, I was told I was being argumentative and that she was going to hang up on me as she had other clients to attend to. That is absolutely not how management should handle customer complaints.
Additionally, I paid $50 for add-on treatments for my boyfriend massage that were not performed, as his service ended more than 30 minutes early. I had also updated my payment method from credit to debit prior to the services, yet my credit card was still charged, resulting in additional fees. That matter will be handled directly with my bank.
From start to finish, my service was horrible, and the management was worse. I have never written a review before, but this spa was extremely unprofessional and honestly just a joke. As someone with high expectations, I absolutely would not recommend and would strongly suggest looking at other reputable options in the area!
