Wow, I feel great! I have been dealing with a painful upper molar that has recently expressed "mutated outward growth" (personal description of tooth.. not a dental term) preventing my mouth to fully close and compromising my bite. After briefly speaking w/ Berta on the phone yesterday, I was glad to hear that Dr. Taheri's dental office agreed to see me on the SAME DAY! I literally arrived at their dental office 12 minutes after the phone call. The toughest part for me was probably my phone conversation w/ my insurance carrier to gain their fee schedule.. I have HMO coverage and was happy that their dental office was listed in the covered network. Lisa was also a great help during the x-rays as well as during the prep (and post-) work. The numbing medicine worked excellently.. outside of feeling the sensation of a couple of pin pokes @ the gum of the problem tooth during the procedure, the process was pretty much painless! I feel that many of the previous bad reviews may have been written out of frustration from their individual situations, i.e. difficultly dealing w/ insurance carriers, reviews written by those solely focused on their tooth/mouth pain (and perhaps overlooking good judgement). I absolutely love going to this dentist. I have been going here for over 20 years and I absolutely love Berta she is the best receptionist always remembers me and all of the people that work here are great when I go in they always make me feel so welcome and I just had a cleaningand took two x-rays and it barely cost anything. The prices are amazing and the customer service is five stars I had my veneers done here 20 years ago and they're still in place and good. Choose another Dentist if you value your time. Hi, I have been coming to this office for a few months before Dr. Ana left. Every time I have come here I have had to wait a ridiculous amount of time due to their poor time-management and scheduling issues. This last time was probably the final straw. I called to schedule an appointment for a simple cleaning almost a week ahead of time and even called the day-of to confirm. When I called the assistant told me it was a good time to come in and assured me that I would be seen in a prompt fashion. When I arrived I waited nearly half an hour before Dr. Taheri finally acknowledged me only to make me wait another half hour sitting in the chair while he worked with another patient in another space. Dr. Taheri kept telling me he would be with me in a few minutes before he finally sent another person to do the cleaning. When the second doctor took a look at my teeth he said "oh, they look fine" as he stood up, left, and told one of the nurses to just polish my teeth. That is not what I asked for. I know the difference between a deep-cleaning and just a polish, and I do not appreciate wasting my time for a service I did not ask for. After this, I simply stood up and told them I would re-schedule, because by now it had been almost an hour and a half. As I was leaving I observed Dr. Taheri on his phone avoiding me instead of confronting the situation. If he would have simply apologized and attempted to remedy the situation I would have at least some respect for his work, but sadly this was not the case. I've read the comments supposedly written by the owner of this office. About half of them are way off topic and simply distractions from what I wrote. The other half are pure fiction, aka nonsense and pure BS. The Dr. accuses me of having "Josh" write a fake review on my behalf. Trust me, I have no idea who Josh is. and am willing to to testify to that under oath. And that goes for everything else I wrote. I didn't even write about the more heinous of things that this pathetic office did to me. Such as Berta NEVER EVER returning my phone calls or multiple emails. Then FORCING ME to drive to this office AND APPEAR THERE IN PERSON just to get a response. And then Berta lying to my face and pretending that she returned my calls and emails. Then, Berta FORCING ME AGAIN to drive to this office just to get a copy of my treatment plan. She refused to mail or email it to me, then has the absolute gall to say that I "come to the office to harass her". Unmitigated gall like I've never seen before. The "treatment plan" I received (by having to drive there to get it), MONTHS AFTER MY EXAM, bears no relation to what I was told by "Dr. Josh" and Teresa, the office manager on duty when I had my "exam". It's very telling that neither employee who was there for my exam works for this office any more. Perhaps they got tired of ripping patients off and getting horrid, honest reviews on Yelp and other sites? But back to the main point, the heinous things this office does- I was billed for co-payments WAY WAY WAY higher than what my insurance company states and requires. My insurance company was APPALLED when I told them what I was quoted for co-payments by this corrupt office. They told me to "run for the hills". To Dr. Taheri, I propose this to you- How bout if you talk to me directly on the phone? That's something that your beloved Berta of course said no to. I have neglected my teeth for about a decade and I have been to about two dentists here in Los Angeles this year (they were horrible to say the least, no communication no empathy and they seemed to be only interested in my insurance policy). So I was referred to Culver City Family Dentistry by a colleague. From the get go, the office administrator (Berta) took control, communicated to me all my options financially, showed empathy and had Dr. Kevin Taheri and his fantastic team come up with a game plan so that I could finally smile after a few years of embarrassment with decayed teeth. Dr. Taheri is fantastic, gave me back my smile and I am so grateful for his (his entire team!) efforts. One last remark, this office is run really well! Clean, professional, and they all seem to work very well together! Berta (Office administrator) runs a tight ship. Would you rather go to a dentist that runs a sloppy office or a dentist that runs a tight ship? When it comes to my teeth, give me a dentistry that runs a tight ship. This is the worst dental office I've ever been to. I wish I had read the reviews before going. Like others, I had a horrible experience with the staff, especially the billing/front office manager, Berta--who is either incompetent or is actively scamming people. The first time I came in was for a routine x-ray and cleaning. After x-rays the doc told me that one of my existing fillings showed some wear and should probably be replaced, and he also recommended an irrigation of the filling just to make sure no bacteria would be trapped inside when he re-filled it. He also recommended a custom night guard which he said would last much longer than the fitted drug-store guard I was currently using. I he left to attend to other patients while I waited in the dental chair, bib on, for my cleaning. He returned 20 minutes later to inform me that they would not have time for my cleaning that day and I would need to return. I had been in their office for an hour and a half at that point, but agreed to re-schedule for the cleaning, filling, and night guard fitting. The dentist explained that Berta would give me the full breakdown of the costs of each of these procedures before I left so I could know what to expect for my next visit. Berta told me that my insurance didn't cover fillings and that all together, the filling, irrigation, and night guard would total $225 with my insurance. It seemed odd to me that my insurance wouldn't cover fillings so after speaking to my insurance, I called Taheri's office back the day of my second appointment to get the dental codes for the procedures that the doctor had recommended for my upcoming visit. Taheri's office gave me three codes, one for the filling, one for the night guard, and one for a "palliative emergency treatment of dental pain." This last code came as a surprise as I had no dental pain. Even so, my copayment schedule showed that the total for all three of these procedures would be around half the price of what Berta had originally quoted me. I decided to forgo the filling because something seemed off about the whole situation, but showed up to the appointment to get a routine cleaning and get fitted for a dental guard. When I arrived, I asked the doctor to recommend a hard or soft dental guard. He tried to push me toward the soft kind, but I pushed back and he said that he could do a soft-hard mouth guard, which I agreed to. He called Berta over so I could double check with her regarding my insurance. Turns out the only mouth guard they offer in-house is a flimsy piece of plastic that seemed to be of lower quality than the drugstore nightguard I already owned, anything more sturdy than that, she said, would cost me an extra $250. I told her I'd pass on the night guard and just go ahead with the cleaning. She said no problem, and mentioned that the cleaning would also need to include a full mouth irrigation. She had not included this in the billing codes she sent me in preparation for my visit. she explained that the doctor would not go through with the routine cleaning without the irrigation, but that my insurance did not cover full mouth irrigation, which would cost me $80. As someone mentioned in previous comments, oral irrigation is not a routine cleaning procedure, and is used to treat gingivitis, which I do not have. I walked out of there with no cleaning, no mouth guard, no irrigation, and no filling. Consider yourself warned. read more

Growing up I went to our family friends dentist office and kept good care of my teeth. This year our family friend retired so I was forced to use my work insurance, which directed me to Dr. Taheri. After paying upfront for an extemely brief Deep Cleaning (at my old office it was 2 separate appointments) I was told I had 6 cavities and that it would cost over $800 to fill. I am 27 years old and I have never had a cavity in my entire life so when I was told this I was very suspicious. I told Dr. Taheri that I would like to go for a second opinion elsewhere and not move forward with the treatment. Sure enough at my second opinion I was told I had absolutely No cavities. It is very scary to think that this doctor could have drilled into my perfectly fine teeth. read more

I wish I could give zero starts. My beef, however, is less with the dentist than it is with the administrative staff. With respect to the dentist, I was informed that I required a deep-cleaning. I believe that the figure for the procedure was roughly $400. I then saw my personal friend, also a dentist. He gave a second opinion - that I did not yet need a deep cleaning. Who is to say which dentist is correct? I'll chalk it up to difference of professional opinion. However, my poor experience with the administrative staff is more cut and dry: I asked the office for my x-rays. The office told me that they could not send me the x-rays because the office could not let go of the originals. The originals were too valuable to mail. (I asked them to mail the x-rays to my new dentist as I had since moved out of town.) Eventually, after asking multiple times, and having my own dentist ask for the x-rays, the office staff did mail the originals - to old insurance company! . Seriously? If the x-rays are so valuable, you would think that they would make an effort to the send the x-rays to the correct address. Apparently not, when it comes to the administrative staff of this office. Further, on three occasions when I called in, I was asked to call back because the staff is at lunch. Really? Get an answering machine - or take down my name and number and call me back. What kind of inane operation answers the phone and asks the caller to call back on their own volition? The admin at Culver City Family Dentistry really needs to get their act together. read more

The parking is very difficult since it's in a strip mall with a laundromat. The first visit took a while but that was expected since you wait for the dentist to free up. I kept hearing the assistants bicker and fight saying things like, "I am the one in charge and you need to listen to me." This wasn't one isolated incident since I heard this thorough out my entire visit with different assistants. They acted cold and distant to me. I don't think I got one smile or 'hello'. The service was fine and there was no pressure to buy more. The most aggravating issue was when I had to come back for the 'quick' polishing. I came 10 minutes early and waited an hour. I saw two people leave and only one go in so I know it was not that busy. I told the receptionist that I needed to leave allowing myself an hour to pick up my daughter from school. She assured me that I would be able to get it done but there was no apology or explanation. After waiting that hour I had to leave without getting my 'quick' polishing done. It seems like they either double/triple booked or were just lazy. With the poor parking, rude and unprofessional assistants, average service and extreme waits I am not coming back. read more

Super friendly, really honest about what's going on and is also great about making me feel really comfortable. These guys also have all of the state of the art technology which is definitely a plus. I've been going to Dr. Taheri for over 5 years now. I had 3 out of 4 wisdom teeth pulled and he never rushed to get the job done. He has never done more work than necessary to over charge my insurance company. I take my two kids there and the staff is always pleasant and helpful. I've even recently converted my fiance over to Dr Taheri. She had a really bad experience with her previous dentist who gave her an unnecessary crown amongst other work but she trusts Dr. Taheri as well. I have referred numerous people to Dr. Taheri and the few that have chosen to go check him out only had praise for the advice. They are in a small parking lot with minimum parking but if that's the only drawback against choosing a good dentist that will help you actually keep your teeth, then who's fault would that be? Sometimes we have to make sacrifices to get what we want and need. Also if you haven't been to a dentist is several years and you need a lot of work, you shouldn't be surprised by that as well. read more

First of all, this place is not closed, so I'm not sure why it is listed as such. My wife and I went in for cleanings with Dr. Taheri and his staff. They were all reasonably nice, but the entire experience was not good.. Both of us had our cleanings done at the same time. After an extremely brief cleaning (was literally about 5 minutes) I was told that my wife and I both had cavities. Of course we wanted to get it filled since we were already at the office. They asked for my credit card while I was sitting in the chair! Who does that? It was one of the most unprofessional things I had ever experienced. I should have taken that as a sign. Anyways, Taheri did the filling. When we left, my wife and I found out that they had said we both had a cavity in the exact same spot (between two teeth). What are the chances of that? Since then, I've had pain in that tooth which really stinks since I had never ever experienced any pain there before. We won't ever be going back. EDIT -- Saw another Yelper say that they kept pushing for a Deep Bacterial Cleaning that wasn't covered in their insurance. We had the exact same experience. In fact, the fillings we had for some reason were a rare type of filling that wasn't covered by our insurance either. We ended up having to pay $600 total for it. read more

BEWARE!!! He says he made a simple billing error but NO... he made THREE fraudulent "mistakes." He says he apologized but NO.... he called me crazy and told me I was giving him headache for calling him out on his BS. He STOLE my insurance benefits!!! I am reporting this guy to my insurance company, the Dental Board of California, and the American Dental Association. I went in for just one appointment and they did an exam, a cleaning, and a few fillings. They are super speedy and did all that in about an hour. The problem is the fraudulent insurance billing. They send multiple claims.. I think that's how they try to stay under the radar. They billed for 6 fillings and they only did 3 They billed for a periodontal scaling which is NOT a cleaning! A periodontal scaling is a quadrant-by-quadrant deep clean for periodontal disease and usually includes anesthesia. Dental guidelines require that they only do half a mouth at a time, and requires that they spend 1.5-2 hours on each side. They did not do this! I dont even have periodontal disease! They didnt even probe me to measure my pockets to see whether I even have it!!! These billings unfortunately used up ALL my benefits for the year for just ONE one-hour appointment. When I called the office to call them out on their billing fraud (this can not even be excused as an error!! it is obviously intentional).. Elizabeth said that I actually did receive a deep cleaning.... even though I know what a periodontal scaling is she tried to tell me thats what I got!!!! So I had to handle it through the insurance company and Dr Taheri ended up telling them it was a mistake.. that they intended to just pre-authorize the periodontal scaling. Im sorry but thats no mistake.. THEY DID NOT EVEN MEASURE ME FOR PERIODONTAL DISEASE! He even made up a fake appointment in his billing and spread his claims over 2 appointments. BEWARE!! I've been to 2 dentist since then, both of them, plus a close family friend (that is a 30yr dentist) told me I was ripped off by this dental office. They had help remove my review for telling the truth! This place is a complete scam also goes under multiple names! I went into this dental office on my birthday 12/13/18 to have a cleaning and whitening. I had a full mouth x-ray and the dentist came in (a woman) which said i had a total of 7 cavities that needed to be filled and that i would need front veneers to close my gap which was also false my teeth are very straight and do not have any damage! Braces can easily solve my gap. I declined having the fake cavities filled they booked me for another appointment 12/20/18 I DID NOT SHOW UP FOR THIS APPOINTMENT! I checked my insurance and I was charged for 12 that's right 12 fillings 6 on 12/13/18 and 6 on 12/20/18! This is over $1200 worth of work which i am responsible for $800+. I spoke with the billing person in January here it is February and i still haven't had this taken off my records! I need dental work done and can't have it done because they have falsified documents. This is not a favorable review. My wife and I arrived at LAX for the start of our honeymoon. We had a long layover so we decided to stay at a hotel for the night. At dinner, my wifes permanent retainer that is cemented to the back of her teeth, had a piece of cement come loose and exposed a sharp edge of the wire irritating her tounge. We called the concierge for a dentist, they reccomended 1-800-dentist - which in turn reffered us to this place. The good thing was that they were able to schedule an emergency appointment for a simple re-bonding proceedure Tuesday morning (October 27, 2009). Upon our arrival, they did not open on time, we were waiting in the parking lot. We arrived and we signed in first, they still took other patients before my wife. Then, when we gave them the insurance cards they took extremely too long in figuring out who to call, where to call and most importantly explain what the proceedure was. All this time, my wife was in the chair, one fo the assistants came and said that our insurance would not cover this becuase it was out of network, then they said it was becaue it was a cosmetic proceedure - at least the cosmetic part is not true because it is to prevent shifting of the teeth - they must have explained it wrong - and since when will the insurance comp[any deny emergency services? they said that since insurance would not cover it that we would have to pay out of pocket - we then asked what the bill would be, tehy said we dont know we have to see what the doctor says - I felt like I was in a crooked repairshop being a captive audience and all. The doctor examined my wife and then the assistant came back - for a simple 5 minute or so proceedure the cost would be 200 dollars. Then already upset they looked at me and said we need payment now - we then said do the work then we will settle at the front - they exercised extremely poor chairside manner - who would upset the patient and demand payment? especailly since we already said that we would pay for it. bottom line I paid the bill, but they wanted me to go to the front and pay... i dont want to continue this review - just saying that poor customer service - poor chairside manner - staff treats you like as if you dont have the means to pay (regardless if you can or can not) - read more

I have been to dentists before and know what to expect but when I had to pay $250 for two little fillings that took 30 minutes and my insurance had to paid $200 so it was a total of $450!! WOW this dentist is a rip off. They staff was not professional and not even close to friendly. They look at your teeth no consult and then say this it how much it will cost. They have you pay before the work is even done. Almost felt pressured and I am in sales. Not the right way to go about it. I would strongly recommend going somewhere else...! I went to this office to have work done and 1st off wait times extremely long for one. 2nd the dr.tahari office is a rip off beware of this office they wil ripl off your ppo insurance. they charge you for work you dont need then do work on your mouth to later fall apart and lie to keep from correcting the work they done. i had a root canal i allow this office to do recommended by 1800 dentist to later find out the work dr. tahari did root canal was leaking. i went to make appt for the dr. to see xrays provide even the dentist that said root cancel leaking was called at the office and the dr refused to take care of his work. i report him to the board and investigation is been launched as we speak. world beware if this dental office they shady and a total rip off. this dental office is by far the worst i have ever been to! I went here a couple months back because this is where my insurance assigned me to. So i decided to give it a try. the dentist is horribly!! i was asking him questions as far as the treatment i needed and as a concerned patient and all i was asking some questions i wasnt getting what a root canal was and a crown and things like that and i turned around for a second and with the corner of my eye he made a face like if i was crazy or something. he seemed frustrated! and then when i asked if the root canal was necessary (my tooth wasnt in pain) he literally jumped out of his chair took his gloves off and said look this is what you need in a very bad attitude. He then had an assistant come in and tell me the cost it came out to a little over $1300 with insurance. i wasnt buying that so i decided to switch dentist( i have a hmo insurance) went to the new dental office and then got reffered over to the endo specialist got the root canal done, went back to the new dentist and she did the crown for me and literally the bill was less than $700 this including both the crown and rootcanal this dentist will rip you off!!!! They dont follow the hmo co pays!!!!!! the 1 star is for the staff that was very nice.! People make sure you know how your insurance works if not they will rip you off! read more
