Best views for a beer break, and this almost seemed like an "accidental surprise" to us, as we didn't know exactly what was located at the top of the hill. We sure are glad that we stumbled upon it, and the views of the Rhine River were impeccable! Kinda cool too to find out that this place serves as a youth hostel as well.

We happened to be in Bacharach for the Game of Thrones Tourney, so we decided to make the journey to see the castle for ourselves. The castle is truly the focal point of the whole town; even upon arrival from the train station, Stahleck is standing proudly to greet you. Looking at the signs pointing to the stairs, I thought, how hard could this really be? We're two average fit Americans; we'll be fine! Well! We were! Make to bring some good hiking shoes with some good traction, and a good camera to take in some of the amazing scenery! The first initial steps up the mountain have a sturdy railing and sturdy wooden steps - nice and easy. But, as you go higher, the steps go away, and you're walking on a dirt path that I wouldn't dare walk on if it was covered in snow. Making it to the top is definitely worth it, and the view is really impressive of all of Bacharach. We should've gotten a beer or something to celebrate making it to the top, but it was getting dark rather quickly, so we had to make our way back down again. Go inside and get a coffee or hot chocolate before heading back to town!

Came here for three nights over the summer. While the hotel is a very short walk from town, since…read moreit was dark, the owner graciously picked us up at the train station in Bacharach when we arrived from Bonn. The hotel was an affordable and convenient way to explore a beautiful and historic river town, and the region in general (parking is available if you have a car). At the end of each day of sightseeing, we bought some Riesling and snacks and enjoyed them in the beautiful garden. Our room was adjacent to a babbling brook, which was a lovely sound to lull you to sleep at night. Breakfast was great and was included in the room. Highly recommend!

From the train station it is a pretty good walk uphill, ~100m vertically, and in the dark a flashlight will be helpful on the path (didn't feel unsafe, but it is unlit). To find the path take Rhinelanderweg (just to the left of the church) up the hill from the train station and look for a small sign on your right a couple hundred meters up the street, that will point you up the walking path. If you're driving, that road is narrow, but there is a pretty good amount of parking available. Our room was decent sized, and the bathroom was substantial, with bunk beds for three. All the linens and such were basic but clean, and the breakfast was similarly basic (spread of breads, cheeses, meats, yogurt, musli, etc) but fine. There were a couple quirks keeping me from giving a better rating though; no free internet (it's 2016, buy a couple routers, add €1 pp per night, and let me have free internet), and checkout is 0930 which is awfully early.
