Smack in the middle of the 2014 holiday rush, I came in with what most would consider a hare-brained project. Of course, I had to have the finished product ASAP. The proprietor, Katherine, was a good sport about what I was looking to have constructed. After some useful feed back as I explained my grand vision, she improved upon the idea and moved forward with my instant gratification rush job. The finished product proved even more magnificent than I had originally envisioned. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that I had made a small, but fatal mistake when calculating the dimensions. I need to be clear on this point, this was my error. When I phoned Katherine with the dismal news, she may have cried. In the end, the only remedy was to rebuild using the corrected dimensions. Version 2.0 turned out just as beautifully as did the first. Bottom line, Katherine does high quality, detail oriented work. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her services as I will no doubt stop by the next time I am in need of her expert skills. read more

I brought in an old reverse on glass advertising sign to Kat that needed a frame. Within just a few minutes, Kat showed me several frames that I could choose from that enhanced the sign's character. The sign had some areas on the back where the paint had come off and Kat suggested that they could fill in the missing areas with paint and add some black poster paper that would smooth out the black background on the back of the old sign. Kat said that it would take a few weeks, but texted me the very next day and said my advertising sign was ready to be picked up! The framed sign was truly outstanding and it was more attractive than I anticipated. Kat even made me a templet that showed the anchor points for hanging my sign. Kat is well versed in her artistic creativeness, attention to detail and timeliness in making your art work the best it can be! I am now looking for more artwork for her to spruce up. I would highly recommend Alpha Kat Picture Framing Shop! read more

I found Kat when I was searching for someone who would take the time to work with some pieces my husband was interested in framing. His tastes in Antique framing was an important part for us in finding just the right craftsperson to matt and frame his collection. Kat is a real master of her craft, she takes time to look over every piece, discusses the best options for each individual piece, from the colors of mats to repairs to the antique frames we bring in. You can see she prides herself in every detail of her finished pieces. Her quality and expertise rates 5 Stars all the way. We have found just the right person to work with in Kat, she's a Master Restorer, Framer and just a delightful person to work with and she'll always great you with a warm smile....you won't be disappointed. read more

When I was much younger, my wife and I did our own framing: select and cut the frame, mat, and glass, add backing, and attach the hanging wire. Once you have seen an Alpha Kat frame, you will give up trying to match Kat's master works. I gave Kat the only photograph of my mother and her brother taken on August 27, 1936. She selected a hand-made Italian frame, added a core-solid mat (color goes all the way through so it doesn't show white when cut), added a hand penned border, and used museum quality glass (you can hardly see the glass). It is a work of art! If my mother and uncle were still with us, they would be very pleased. I'm trying to think of a better word than fabulous or awesome. . .I guess they will have to do. read more

Alpha Kat Framing is the only place I will ever trust with my framing needs. Like many of the other comments, I was afraid a privately-owned shop in Olmos Park would be very expensive, but I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Kat has very competitive prices, all while providing the best framing quality available. Kat took the time to help me choose the perfect frame and inlay for my over-sized painting, and she didn't charge me for stretching the canvas! When I picked up my framed painting, I hardly recognized it, it turned out better than I imagined it could! I will never use another framer again! Kat and Alpha Kat Framing is the only framer I will ever use. read more

I have had several watercolors and prints framed by Kat, and her work is so good I practically go looking for art just so she can frame it! Every single piece she has done has looked many times more fabulous because of her expertise. Her philosophy is to let the art speak for itself and not to overwhelm it with the frame. Not only that, but the frames actually enhance the art. Paintings that I thought were so-so turned out to be gorgeous in their new frames. Be sure to call to see if the shop is open; it's not exactly "by appointment," but it helps to check first. Kat is a nice person and great to work with. Her prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended. read more

I was recently in need of a framing shop as the one I had used previously had closed. After seeing the reviews others had written I decide to check out Kat's shop. The added benefit was that it was so close to my house. I could not have been more pleased with the work that she did. She is very talented and her years of experience really show. She helped me choose the perfect mat and frames and the result was a very professional look. In addition , her desire to serve and her warm personality make you feel she really cares.I highly recommend Kat's and look forward to returning when I need her service again. Linda W. I can honestly say that framing is a big part of the art as it hangs. Katherine "Kat" Tafolla (Alphah Kat Frame Shop) is the most talented person I know to match the frame to the art - she is an artist herself. Sometimes we forget that the essence of art is important to how the work shows. Does the frame support the work, does the frame underwhelm or overwhelm the work itself? We buy art not fully appreciating that the context (the frame) has a lot to say about how we see the work itself. If you want your art, of any level, truly shown well, see Katherine "Kat" Tafolla. If there is someone better I haven't met them. read more

Alpha Kat Frame Shop did an absolutely incredible job on my large scale office framing project at ACE Theatrical Group's Majestic/Empire Theatre offices. Their production is the most cost and time efficient you will find in town, and the quality they produce is impeccable. Kat and Rick are passionate about their craft, very helpful throughout the entire process, and exceptional at what they do! If you need any framing, mounting, or hanging services done for personal or business purposes, I highly recommend Alpha Kat Frame Shop for your next project. read more

I've had 5 items framed by Kat (paintings, posters, embroidery) in the past 3 years and have been very happy with all of it. I go in to her store with only a fragment of an idea of what I want done and Kat is always able to run with that and turn it into something great. I trust her vision for each item I bring in. Work is high quality; lines are always clean and tight. Usually takes about 1-2 weeks to finish the job, but then I've never been in a rush or tried asking for a faster turn-around. read more

Great Framing expert! I had an awesome and pleasant experience bringing in four pieces which were very different. She anticipated my needs and made decision making simple, her instincts for matting framing and best approach were "spot on." I've never had to work so little to make such an Important decision. She even helped me with hints on how to place a difficult piece. Just a great resource and I will be returning with all my framing needs, Kat is really great! Good Job! read more

I went to Kat's after reading reviews and was not disappointed! I had an 86 year old frame and picture that I wanted restored and reframed. She recommended me to a place that saved me money on the photo restoration, then did an amazing job on matting and framing the photo for a reasonable fee! Very knowledgeable, zany lady with an extensive knowledge of the custom framing world! Quality workmanship indeed, along with some "personality" along the way! read more

Events bringing me to Alpha Kat Picture Frame Shop, NEEDS TO BE TOLD to understand Alpha Kat Is True to the name. The Ranger Family has lost three amazing young SV vollyball players and the Memorial Scholarship Fund was raised in their honor. A picture was taken of an emotional moment and after looking at Google reviews it lead me to this amazing individual who turned a moment in time into a everlasting tribute of three beloved Rangers. read more

Kat aced it again!!! We had a 24 hour deadline and she finished with plenty of time to spare. She also DOES NOT charge exorbitant "rush" fees (even though we did wait until the last minute). Thank you again Kat for coming through with your beautiful work and craftsmanship. read more
