Yelp Review 2023 #9:
I'm not sure how I can even rate catacombs but I'll try my best. Let me begin with the information from various sources on the internet - it doesn't match my real life experience. Websites said you can do the catacombs tour hourly from 9am. I can't believe the internet lied to me! *shakes fist*
I went at 9:30am thinking I have enough time for the 10am tour. There is no 10am tour. The tour was at 1:30pm so, I had to re-arrange my itinerary and come back here in the afternoon. They had to let the church-goers out first before they could let us in past the gift shop - it's a functioning Catholic Church after all. They changed the time to 2pm while I stood in line with everyone else.
This is where thousands of people that died of bubonic plague were buried. They were running out of room so, they had to stack bones and skulls to create capacity. Royalty and archbishops were buried here too.
A €6 cash donation is collected after the tour. The tour lasted about an hour. At the top of the stairs before the exit, your tour guide will be waiting for your donation. What happens if you don't have cash? Do you get locked in down the catacombs? Don't be the first one to find out and kindly just bring cash.
Since I don't want ghosts haunting me, I guess the right rating would be 4 stars. read more
