Five Star Painting of St. Louis

Five Star Painting of St. Louis

Grateful for the outstanding work Five Star Painting completed for us over a year ago, we called to…read morerequest their help with a bathroom ceiling and the painting of the front doors of our home. After an assessment of the job by Five Star's, Adam, we received a quote detailing reasonable pricing. The job was scheduled, paint was delivered and we were informed when to expect the painter. The unrelenting heat and humidity caused us to wonder whether having a painter work (inside and outdoors) in the heat was a good idea. Scheduled to arrive at 7:00 A.M., Leroy arrived twenty minutes early to get started. From setting up for work in both areas, to finishing and cleaning up all the prep and protective covering he hung in the bathroom, Leroy completed his work carefully and efficiently. The ceiling in the bath looks wonderful. Two coats of black paint on our front doors have given the doors and our home a fresh appearance and reflect the work of a master painter. Thank you Five Star Painting for your excellent planning and communication. We look forward to calling on you in the future!

There's a portion of interior wall painting that was done very well. Some lines are perfectly sharp…read moreand professional. Just don't hire them to do crown molding on high ceilings. And go over the quotes very carefully. I didn't and on painting day found out what I was expecting was not what the painters had planned. They did work with me and got started. But then needed more money because they needed more paint. Shouldn't the professional know how much paint is required for the job? I spoke to another paint company who was shocked I was asked for more money after they were half way through the job. Do I have the option to say no? Not really, I need the job done. Also the communication between the scheduler and the painting team seems faulty, as I expressed clearly about fragrance allergies causing migraines yet no one seemed to care and arrived with cologne and scented clothing. So 5 star painting please fix that, a migraine is no joke. The photo attached is the "corrected" crown molding ... this wobbly line at the bottom is after I asked it to be redone and it's just getting worse because the guy added more caulk over the mess made before and immediately painted under it. Now I need to hire someone else.

EDIT: Updating my previous rating as a result of Kennedy Painting reaching out. The owner at…read moreKennedy Painting called to talk everything out. I appreciate their professionalism and promptness with responding to feedback. He noted that they are ready to resolve any quality-related issues caused by the previous painter. This review is LONG, so in case TL;DR--they breached contract twice and I experienced a very unprofessional painter. I would have talked to the painter personally, but he left without saying a single word to me. So, a review will have to do. Unprofessional painter: I work in real estate and house renovations and I have never encountered a rude painter before. But I guess there's a first for everything. There was an issue with paying an extra $200 because the cabinet painter needed to roll extra paint on the cabinets to cover the streaks of wood coming through the white paint. The supervisor and I were able to amicably work things out and were very understanding of each other. The painter who worked on the walls did not think so. He interrupted our conversation by saying that verbal agreement means something and that I should have paid the extra $200 due to the work already being finished. The order of conducting business is always--estimation, work order, execution of job. Kennedy Painting did the job first, asked for the money, then offered to write a work order. If I didn't sign off on anything, that means I did not agree to the job. I appreciate that they did the extra layers of paint. But I didn't agree to it nor did I know when it was being done. This is why there's a WRITTEN form of agreement. After we had the disagreement, the painter stomped around upstairs and talked loudly on the phone. My husband said that the painter tried to get the $200 from him when I left for work. When I got home, my husband said the painter suddenly changed his attitude, and he left without saying anything to me. (Hopefully never to be seen again by me.) Breach of contract (twice): 1) I came home to see that my couch is dusty. My piano is dusty. My tables are dusty. My kitchenware is dusty. It clearly states in the contract that the furniture and items in the house would be covered with plastic. I talked to the supervisor about it, to which he said he'll tell the painter to do so when he gets back. When the painter came back, my husband had to ask him to cover the furniture. The painter was already sanding the walls without covering anything up. 2) The contract also states that the furniture would be put back to place (excluding electronics). The furniture was not only dusty but still in a heap in the middle of each room by the time he left. In conclusion, their painting was fine. But with $6,000, I could have found a painter that was not holding a personal vendetta against me, because I did not wish to pay an extra $200 for something I didn't sign off on.

I wanted to follow up on my previous. Shawn from Kennedy painting reached out to me after I posted…read morethe review. He was concerned about the work that was done and informed me the work carried a two year warranty. He met me at my house and understood my concerns. He sent a crew to fix the problem areas and all is good. Its great to see a company stand by their work. I would definitely use them again. Steve M
