It is always surprising to find a sign I can read while in Germany. The words "Golden Lotus" made…read moreperfect sense to me. So, my wife and I decided to give it a try.
It's a small place, seating maybe 20, but most of their orders seemed to be Take-Out. It was staffed by an Asian couple. (Judging by the way they occasionally barked at each other, not employer-employee). There was only one vacant table.
As an appetizer, we ordered hot and sour soup. Very different from the typical hot and sour in San Diego, and quite good, with lots of solids. More hot than sour. My entree order was a rice dish with pork, mushrooms, carrots, onions and garlic. Plenty of meat, and a very good, but rather hot sauce. My wife had a similar dish. The portions were generous. We also managed to polish off three Tsingtao beers (.33L bottles).
The tab for everything came to less than 24 Euros, a bargain in my book. When I asked the woman behind the counter what style cooking it was, she hesitated, then said "Viet Nam". I guess that accounts for the added heat. The beer kept things cooled off pretty well. I'm a fan.
