We visited these waterfalls on our first day in NZ. Since we flew into Auckland it was an easy 45 minute drive to Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. Here you can park your car and enjoy the beach as well as take this very short little walking trail (about 5 minutes dirt trail) to view the waterfall.
The trail is an easy level and really suitable for all ages, though beware it isn't paved; so if you have difficulty walking on uneven ground it may be challenging. The waterfall is surrounded by beautiful lush vegetation and is pretty impressive in height. It's 30 M, so basically almost a 100 ft waterfall that cascades into a serene pool at the base.
Once you're done there I recommend you check out the many hiking trails in the area, enjoy the beach, or pack a picnic and use the picnic facilities. Like many of the national parks in NZ this one is very well kept, has a free parking lot and public toilets.
Waterfalls are just a gorgeous piece of natures artistry and usually are a bit harder to reach! So whenever one is only 5 minutes out of my way I can't make up an excuse to miss it. Just a quick oo and aww, snap a selfie and then you can be on your way. read more
