Shout out to La'Shelbee for excellent customer service! I called to schedule an appointment for my…read moreKinetico water softener and explained my situation. She was very patient, attentive, and considerate. Even though she wasn't immediately familiar with what I was referring to, she took the time to get advice and made sure I got an appointment that fit my needs. Truly appreciated her professionalism--she was awesome!

They said that the issue was that we needed to replace the PRV out by the street, which would cost $1,000. We had a non-Kinetico plumber come out to change out the PRV and see if he could help solve the softener issue. The first thing he pointed out was that the Kinetico filter hadn't been changed in what looked like years - yet the Kinetico service peeps had been there "servicing" the system just a few days earlier! The non-Kinetico plumber noted that he wouldn't touch a Kinetico system, but he showed us how to change the filter and charged $200 to replace the PRV. (One fifth the price of the Kinetico quote.) The PRV and filter change made no difference in the salt water issue, so we had Kinetico come out again. (Another $250 even though it was under warranty.) They came out again and replaced some small components in the system head, BUT also said that they recommend that we replace the system with one of their newer models because our warranty was about to expire AND the salt would probably return. OR add a dechlorinator, but they couldn't say if that would actually solve the problem. The new system would be ~$7,500 if we bought it before our warranty expired. It would be more expensive if we waited a month (after the expiration date). (They try to upsell on the phone and when they come out. It is a constant thing with anyone we speak to.) Three weeks later the salty water returned - extreme frothy, salty water. When taking a shower, it is as if we are bathing with ocean water. I generally wash my face afterward with bottled water to get the salt off my lips. Obviously, we can't drink the water like that. So if you crave salt water and want a softener that will last less than 5 years and want to pay $250 per service call (when under warranty) Kinetico is the choice for you. It has been a very disappointing experience. We are replacing the system with a less expensive but hopefully more reliable system.

Five stars for Jim (the person)!…read more Great work, arrived on time, very very friendly, and was here to do the right thing - get our water softener back to working. Jim had all the right equipment, knew his Rainsoft systems very well. His first step was to verify the water was not softened. (It wasn't.) He pulled out his test kit - verified we had a 32-grain water hardness. Previous testing indicated 35 grains of "hardness". (Here in the Texas Hill Country - we have wells and aquifer-fed water. Lots of dissolved solids - and it kills our appliances over time....) Jim verified - yes - hard water. Then he set about fixing our old (but lifetime-guaranteed!) Rainsoft water softener. He had all the parts and disassembled/re-assembled the controlling mechanism quickly. Not a trivial fix at all - but he did it really fast - with a full explanation along the way. Jim is super-enthusiastic, loves his job, loves his company, and loves the Rainsoft product. His humor and light touch are infectious. (Heck - I have him a totally-cool "Man Hug" before he headed out.) Now the bad news - Rainsoft would love it if we would upgrade our water softener mechanism to the latest/swooshiest model. WE WOULD LOVE TO UPGRADE TOO! But their standard pricing is extremely high - so it's a question of how much extra do we want to spend for soft water? And the current unit has that lifetime guarantee - so it's still easier/cheaper to keep it crutching along. Over the past 18 years, we have sent many neighbors and friends to Rainsoft (in Bulverde, Boerne, and from work/school). But with "upgrade pricing" as high as it is - I'm not sure we can recommend them long-term. JDMc

I'm writing this in attempt to truly warn any other customer in the market of a water softener DO…read moreNOT trust Sweetwater with your home. Sweetwater installed the system 5 years ago and it has never properly worked for any kind of longevity. Sweetwater will then charge you $300+ plus to come out and "fix it" then proceed to blame the customer for not having their technician over more often. I'm not spending my hard earned money on having to call a technician out every 3 months to fix the water softener. At some point we hoped Sweetwater would take accountability for their worthless system but unfortunately we were told the system is working "just fine". If you choose Sweetwater these are the results you will get.
