I have been very impressed with the staff of this preschool. My child had a rough time starting out preschool, (at 2.5 years old, it was her first time away from her parents). My wife and I would often drop in and peek in the windows, and we always were happy with what we saw.
My overall impression is that they have provided an excellent balance of loving, gentle care and firm structure. She needed some extra attention and love to get her through those first few months without mommy and daddy (thank you Figa & Rin!), and I was very happy with how the staff made the extra effort to let her warm up at her own pace . As she grew more comfortable, they encouraged her join in the activities and socialize more with the other kids while following the rules (she was very proud to show me how she can put away all her toys at home, "just like at school!").
The activities seem appropriate for the this age (2.5-3 y/o), which in my view means they are mix of fun and learning. Some examples of activities that pleased my wife and I: the kids draw and describe their "observations" in a way that encourages the kind of thinking that builds a foundation for scientific learning. They also do a "nature walk" around the trees and bushes, during which they collect "samples" of leaves and rocks.
Contrary to what I just read in a prior review, I found the director, Nell, to be professional, direct, and available when we needed her, which we appreciated. I have also seen her playing games and having fun with the kids who were at the school late in the afternoon, making some extra effort to keep them having a good time while waiting for late parents. The teachers Rin, Marissa, and Nei have always been loving and caring, and I know they are always looking out for the kids. The lead teacher, Figa, is one of those teachers that stands out as special, and the tone she sets for the class has consistently impressed my wife and I.
Overall, I am very happy with the staff at this school; even though we moved to a different area, I now drive an extra 40 minutes every day to keep my daughter with this group because I can trust the job they are doing. read more
