Definitely worth a visit if you have kids to buy for. There is a car park with spaces only for customers too, which is free, so that's a bonus.

They carry a really good variety of toys from pocket money toys to large, expensive toys that only Father Christmas can afford. There is no parking immediately outside but you can park across the road or at the car park which is just down the road from the shop. This could be a disadvantage if you are buying something really big, I'm not sure if they will deliver large items. It is nice to have a quality toy shop in town.

It does sell some soft toys but in the main it stocks quirky bits and pieces, novelty items and gifts. It has a range of hen night type joke items which aren't suitable for children at all, for example. It also has quite a large selection of greeting cards, mostly comedy ones. I used to think this shop was great in the 1980s - it was a place to find unusual gifts. It all looks really dated and tacky now - so either I've become incredibly sophisticated in my old age, or Clayhanger really haven't kept up with retails trends - I suspect the latter.

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff, happy to give advice where needed especially if you are not familiar with a particular age-range and what might be suitable. Plenty of toys on display for the children to look at and play with while you browse. Staff also happy to keep things back if you phone in advance. They have a Birthday Club which is free to join and you get a discount voucher and small gift around the time of your children's birthdays.

The kind of shop that is good for browsing when you aren't quite sure what to buy for somebody and you may well find something perfect! We recently bought a Bedlam cube which was well appreciated by the recipient! Staff are friendly and helpful without being over-powering. Room for the pushchair (just!). Parking in town centre car parks - the nearest being at Somerfield which is just up the road.

The assistants are always helpful but the store is actually very difficult to negotiate with small children. The first problem is that it is fairly small and crowded with stock, it makes it hard to get round with a buggy. The second problem is that the shop is on two levels and this is another obstacle with a buggy. Finally there is no parking available. Unless you are very lucky and get a place somewhere on Union St, not right outside as that is No Parking, the only alternative is the multi storey. I think the best solution is go without the children. Easier in the end I think.

Stock Jo Downs glass (a local glass artist from Launceston) and Viva clay beads amongst many other lovely brands. Plenty of space to look around without feeling cramped. They also have some lovely christening/baby gifts, candlesticks, oil burners, scarves, candles, Christmas decorations, glass vases etc. They are also doing some very neat 'Wish Lists' for Christmas where you can note down things you like in the shop and slip the hint to loved ones with cash!
