When it was built it was at the intersection of then Osceola Blvd. and Seminole Ave. In 1914 it was Farmer's Bank but the bank failed in the Great Depression. It then became the Indian River Citrus Bank. In 1983, the buildings were sold to The Vero Furniture Mart. In 2020 the building was sold once again and it is now Vintage Vero, a consignment store/ antique mall with 18 different dealers. There are multiple rooms of furniture, art, collectibles, ceramics, home goods. There is even a room with clothing and jewelry. My favorites were a chrome raindrop mirror, alligator magnifying glass, and mid century patio set. Prices arranged from under a hundred to many thousands of dollars. There is a lot to look at and the owners sweetly let me take my time.

The large open store is arranged to give design inspiration and to showcase the furniture attractively. I saw beautiful dining sets and cozy living rooms set up. They had everything you need to turn your house into a home. My favorite items were the giraffe and peacock stained glass lamps. I especially loved the peacock one which was half off. Yellow tags denote items that are 30 percent off and red means 50 percent is deducted. Whether you are searching for a large piece of furniture of that perfect decorative finishing touch, you are sure to find something you love here.

In the same plaza as Threads is the Antique Workshop and Estate Sales of Vero Beach. There is some parking in front of the building but also in a gravel lot on the side. This cute boutique is actually quite large and has two rooms selling gently used, name brand clothes and accessories from Tory Burch, Louis Vuitton, Johnny Was, and Lilly Pulitzer to name a few. I especially loved the colorful Lily Pulitzer dresses. They have a sale system where one star is 25 percent off and 2 star is 50 percent off. Since this is consignment expect higher prices than say a thrift store but still discounted off of retail price. Note that all sales are final, no exceptions. Unfortunately I came in 15 minutes before closing and they sure let me know it. Perhaps if I find myself in the area again I'll come back (earlier).

A few days have passed, and I remain astonished by the blatant lack of respect we encountered at…read morethis store. We purchased a media console that was already marked 50% off, which initially seemed like a great deal. After informing the owner, Patty, of our intent to buy, she moved to take it off the floor. Unfortunately, during the process, she dropped it, causing both drawers to fall out. Several customers, including myself, helped get the console back onto a dolly, but I didn't inspect it for damage at the time--my focus was on assisting rather than creating a scene. Patty kindly offered to come in the next day, despite it being her day off, to help us load the console into our vehicle. We insisted it wasn't necessary and even offered to pick it up on Monday, but she insisted on coming in Sunday morning to help us. On Sunday morning, we called at 11 a.m. to inform the shop that we were running late, and the employee assured us it was fine. However, when we arrived at 11:28 a.m., Patty had already left, and we were told we could load the item ourselves--no problem. Upon inspecting the console, we noticed the drawers had been damaged during the fall. We informed the other owner of the incident, and she called Patty. Patty responded that we should have checked for damage the day before and dismissed our concerns by emphasizing that the item was already half off and it was a great deal (which it was, if it was undamaged). To clarify, we had agreed to purchase the console before it was damaged, and the accident happened while they were handling it, not us. At this point, we felt uneasy about taking a damaged item but were left with no choice, as we were abruptly told, "We don't offer refunds." This was deeply frustrating--especially since they damaged the item while it was in their possession. The other owner, who had curly blonde hair, was extremely rude, implying that we were at fault for not inspecting the item immediately after the fall. I didn't feel comfortable making a scene on the sales floor and had assumed that if there were any damage, we could address it at pick-up. Despite our frustration, we loaded the console into our vehicle, as we had no other choice. While loading the console into the car, Patty called back to authorize a refund, but the other owner's final remarks were extremely unsettling. She stated that she would watch us unload the console to ensure we didn't damage it, which felt unnecessary and accusatory. In summary, we were paying customers who supported a small business and apologized in advance for our slight delay. We did nothing to damage the item but were treated as if we were at fault. While I appreciate the eventual refund, the rude and condescending treatment from the blonde owner was unacceptable. I typically refrain from posting negative reviews, particularly for small businesses, but the level of disrespect we experienced here was egregious and cannot be overlooked. Attached are photos of the damage that was done to the drawers from the fall.

I was shocked to found 75% of what I needed here today. The store was very clean with nice things and was well lit. The selection of furniture was excellent as was the housewares. The manager and staff were all lovely and there were many people available to help. I just thought I would leave a note because I was genuinely impressed with the store and its staff. The Women's Refuge was founded in 1997 by Donna Lee Robart and husband Ted for people who are experiencing emotional, mental, and spiritual problems. Proceeds from this thrift store go to supporting programs at the Women's Refuge which includes a Christian residential program for women, support groups, and a biblical counseling center for men, women, and families. The Women's Refuge Resale Shop sells a wide range of clothing, accessories, household items, furniture, art, home decor, and more. Everything was neatly organized and clearly marked with a price. Interestingly the prices were compared with what similar items are selling for Poshmark and Chairish. First time I have seen that. On the day I visited they were having a lot of additional sales including 60 percent off dresses and pants. For even more thrifting fun, the Tambourine Resale Store is next door and there is another Women's Refuge store across the parking lot selling furniture and antiques. The Women's Refuge does a lot of good in the community so you can feel good about volunteering, shopping, and donating here.
