This is a cute little dog park! I had no idea that we had a dog park so close to us. My younger sister and I wanted to bring our dog, Venus, to the park to socialize but it kinda failed. We walked through the trails and everything was perfectly fine until I tried to get her to socialize with the other dogs.. I swear she tried to bite every single dog that came close to her. Since this is so close, I'm going to try to bring her again.. Wish us luck! Beautiful views of nature.

I used to love this place but a lot of different quality people that keep their dogs unleashed have been coming here recently. good thing I can pick up my boston terrier, but my husky is another issue. there are tons of trails but you end up avoiding them because en route you'll have hordes of people BBQ'ing and kids screaming from parties. I don't like people touching my dogs and have had several occasions where the parents don't watch their kids and it turns into an annoying affair when I try to shoo them away. Ramapo Reserve is the best compared to these trails. I just love coming here at night when the dog run is empty and letting my dogs loose.

Great dog park! With a few things that could be upgraded. I…read moredrive 20 minutes to come here as a treat for my dogs, as it's the largest dog park I know of and has some great off-leash allowed walking space as well. There is basically 4 different areas in this park - a small dog area, 2 large dog areas and a short wooded path that you can walk on with your dog. Sometimes I've been here where they close half the larger dog area, I'm not sure why this is. In the parking lot, there is a port-a-john for us humans, and trash can/doggie bags for the pups. Everyone seems to be really responsible here with their dog which is a major benefit. Some cons: - can be muddy after rain - no trash cans or bags provided inside the park area, only before you enter the park - sometimes they close half the park (I don't know why this is?) - limited seating/benches for humans

Typically always pleasant experiences with the people and other dogs. As long as people follow the rules that is... However, I have to include an important warning for those in the small dog section about the trees above that drop these fairly large rock-solid chestnuts at unexpected periods of time at lightning speeds!! One of these suckers hit my 10 pound shitzu in the back pretty hard and she was yelping in pain/fear! :(

Second, there are two ways in from the parking lot. To the right is the more immediate route. To the left is a lengthy--and beautiful hiking trail. It's at least a mile long, with hills, and has a deteriorating exercise path. This leads out into a pasture with paved walk ways. There are not a lot of signs, so just stick to the right and just when you think you will never find it, you will eventually reach the dog park. The park itself is a huge swath of grass surrounded by a fence, which thrilled both my pups. There's not a lot of tree cover, nor is there available water, which was a downer. As we took the trail to get there on a hot summer day, they only had so much energy left to run around, especially after we ran out of water. Still, the park entrance is closer than we realized from the other side, and there are bathrooms, and thus, a sink with water available if you need it. If we are ever out that way again, we'll visit.

Since this run is off the beaten path from the rest of the park, many people have their dogs off leash on these paths, which the park doesn't allow. From parking lot it is about a 1/4 mile walk up a trail to this dog run. Add water, more seating and shade and this is possibly a 3 star run. Also add a separate small dog run and better ground cover and it could be a 4 star run. Dog runs/parks I have been to so far: http://www.yelp.com/list/nyc-area-dog-parks-runs-queens-5

The parking lot is big and there is a bathroom, which is appreciated. I took a look at the trail map before I left to find one of a decent length, so check out options, but the trails are well-marked. Once you get past the main train next to the lake, you can find yourself pretty alone except for another occasional hiker, but you can vibe with nature, see a waterfall, and just breathe in the fresh air. Some of the trails are long, but I paced one that was only a couple of miles and still got some nice scenery and a lot of steps in. It's great this park isn't too far from the urban areas of Northern NJ and there are many trail options so you can visit again and experience something new. There's also a sign for trout fishing if that's your thing. Check it out if you want to get away for the day.

For decades I've driven up 287 and wondered what was in all the hills and mountains and today I finally got to see. I met up with my local plus size hiking group for our last hike of the year and Ramapo was a first for all of us despite being longtime New Jerseyans. We did the Macmillan trail and clocked about 3.5 miles total. We went the long trail around the reservoir and then dipped back down the waterfall trail. Very thankful we did it that way - I think all the stairs on the waterfall trail would have been treacherous given the conditions and a bit demoralizing. Getting the big hills out the way first and enjoying the lake made the waterfall that much sweeter. So many dogs and kind people on the trail. Trash was almost non-existent. Tons of rocks and logs to sit a spell - but at below freezing temps we kept it moving lol. Highlights: -ample parking (bc it was cold) -giant rocks -waterfalls -exposed slabs -gorgeous vistas -the swan!!
