I have been to other breweries and never had this historical perspective. Other breweries just show you their massive and impressive brewing apparatus. This museum, located in the basement and not containing currently operating brewing machinery, shows many historical elements, including photos of how they delivered the beer in the days of horses, and the first motor vehicle that was used in the beginning of the 20th century. In fact, that motor vehicle is in the museum and you can sit in it. There is a good tutorial on hops, and the various grains that can be used for different purposes, ranging from traditional barley to a gluten-free grain. At the end of the free tour, they give you one bottle of beer per person. After the tour, we went to the beer hall to eat and drink. There are many food options, distributed among two floors of vendors. Much more satisfying than just ordering off of a single menu.

My only suggestion would be to rethink how the beer tastings are worked into the tour. The entire experience, including the free beers, is listed as around 1.5 hours, but you don't really sit down to enjoy the beers until after the actual tour is finished. You get two pretty large beers, so drinking both can easily add quite a bit of extra time. I know this isn't something the tour guide controls, but it would be nice if you could enjoy a beer while walking through certain parts of the tour, or if they simply allowed more time at the end for the tastings. Overall, though, the tour itself was very good, Marcus was a great guide, and we enjoyed learning more about Stiegl and the brewing process. Definitely just plan for more than 1.5 hours if you actually want to sit, relax, and enjoy the included beers afterward!

We made a reservation for an outside table with a view. There is a great view over the city from…read morethere. When we arrived they had stopped serving outside because it had rained. They then offered us an inside table with a view of the wall. If they had explained early in the exchange why they weren't serving outside there would have been no problem. That was the last thing we were told by another person. The rating is based on our first contact which was inappropriate. We saw that the food was not highly rated but the view could make up for that.

I would advise a reservation to secure and outdoor table near the railing for a view. It can easily be done online. The Wiener schnitzel is one of the better versions I've had in Germany and Austria.
