We had superb Köfte and Lamb chops. Super tasty, perfectly cooked, huge portions all for a very reasonable price. The food comes with a salad (also perfectly seasoned), rice and Turkish bread. Artsy looking Turkish restaurant in the center of Cologne, decorated with magazine photos,…read moreportraits and an eclectic mix of artifacts. We were seated by a friendly waiter in the front room and after a while I got curious and went exploring since regulars seemed to be going straight to the back room. Indeed, there were a couple other interesting looking rooms, and a cool little bar. But it looks like tourists like us who don't know better are put in display in the front part of the restaurant. Our waiter was apologetic about not being able to find the only English menu the place owns and had to translate the relatively short list of dishes offered. I still wonder if the English version even exists, especially after reading other reviews. Service was very slow, even though it was just my husband and I in that front room. Unfortunately, after all that waiting, the food was disappointing. I am surprised at all the good reviews raving about tasty food. After a week in Germany, we wanted something different from the local food and since my husband had been to a yummy Turkish restaurant in Dusseldorf a few days earlier, we were hoping for a similar experience. No such luck, Artistanbul offers an interesting atmosphere, but that's about it.

They started the table with fresh made bread & homemade butter. We ordered their Schnitzel, Gnocchi, & a Kolsch beer. The schnitzel was tender, moist, & had a golden fry (did not feel greasy at all). The gnocchi was soft, chewy, & fresh with mushrooms & veal. Service was attentive and helpful when trying to figure out what to order. We finished our meal with a berry cobbler which came out hot & with a scoop of ice cream on the side.

Clean, upscale. Outdoor seating next to the cobble-stoned streets. FOOD ===== SALAT ZIEGENKÄSE (11,50 euros) OMG, the best goat cheese and salad in the world. The sandwich seemed smaller than they used to be. The bread, even though it had been placed in the toaster wasn't toasted at all; meat didn't taste like much of anything, no crispy outer layer- reminded me of dog food tbh; the salad was extremely sparse though I asked for everything; the tsatziki and hot sauce didn't add much flavor and spice to it at all. I remember the days I used to taste rose water in the tsatziki. Apparently those days are gone. Completely underwhelming. Guess next time I will have to try out one of the other places. That's how good this place is. Different than the dozens of Kabap places lining the streets of Cologne, Kebapland stands out with its friendly and quick service (there's probably going to be a line - there's always a line), charcoal grilled meats, fantastic flavors, authenticity, and different menu items. Having trouble picking between lamb, beef, chicken, or wings as I was? No problem - orders the mixed plate for a small €16 and get a big portion of each. What stood out to me most were the wings. Crispy, charred, and flavorful. If you're in Cologne, this is a MUST TRY. Don't miss the chance for a culinary dream come true.
