Umm, Ma Goa in Putney. Love this place, unpretentious, great food and a wonderful relaxing and…read morecosy, warm and welcoming feel to it. This is not your average Indian restaurant and it has to be visited. A family run business since 1993 they obviously care and have a lot of passion and pride for their business. The staff are simply brilliant and the food that they prepare and produce is simply wonderful. My preference is to go there on a Sunday and fill my face for a tenner, It can get very busy as it is very popular and food this good shouldn't be that cheap. I saw that they were on the t.v the other night of a programme about Indian food which again re-enforces how good it is and it will also bring more people to the table and a busier place to be. Good luck to Ma Goa - They deserve their reputation and I will see them soon.

However, I was buoyed by the fact that I didn't really like the starter given the Peyton Law of Indian restaurants which is that the better the starter the worse the main course. In this case, the main courses were brilliant. Both were unctuous, intense fully flavoured concoctions. The pork in the vindaloo was melt in the mouth tender and both sweet and sour from the tamarind. Service was faultless. I used to live in Putney (sniff) twenty years ago and enjoyed Ma Goa then, so it has well deserved legs. Enjoy.

I ordered their…read moresamosa chaat to go during my pregnancy days, I was so hungry I had to find a place to sit at Southside mall. One of the best samosa chaats I've ever had in London and I've had it several times - definitely 5 stars. We ordered a few other items - the wings and lamb curry. They were okay. Good but not nearly as fantastic as the samosa chaat. The curry is a bit on the greasy side (most take away curries are) and the wings were spicy.

Fabulous Indian food and good service. I popped into here a few Saturdays ago early in the evening…read moreand a nice waitress soon greeted me. Nice wall art and decorations and the music playing was not too loud, which was great as that's a pet peeve of mine. I advised I couldn't have overly spicy food and she pointed out menu items that would likely suit me. At her suggestion I got the yogurt puri and the tarka dhaal, as well a serving of the tandoori roti. The food came relatively quick and oh man, was I impressed! Colorful, very good portion sizes for the money and the best part, absolutely delicious. The puri were perfectly crunchy and full of sweet and tangy yogurt sauce and whilst I've had better dhaal, it was still very satisfying. The roti were outrageously good- brushed with ghee? Butter?- and they were generous slices and chewy. I also got a masala chai which was a balanced sweet and savoury flavour. I didn't get a cocktail but interesting menu. I would totally return here if I lived nearby!

The korma was overly sweet and almost like a dessert. Overall not bad, but better could be had at nearby establishments. The service was a little weird. They did not provide any utensils with the takeaway, which seems common at South Asian restaurants in London, but this is the first place that refused to provide them when I asked. If you are going to order takeaway from here, make sure you have forks and spoons handy.

I'd recommend this place to a friend, Taj Mahal is cosy, peaceful, clean, decorated like the inside…read moreof a luxury train, the staff are polite and attentive and its good value for money (£35-£40 for 2 mains, 2 sides, 1 dessert and a bottle of wine). You don't feel rushed, the food arrives in good time, and there's no skimping on portions and generous amounts of meat in the currys. My wife and I always have a good time here. I'm no wine expert but my simple pallete has always enjoyed any of the £10ish bottles (very good price for a restaurant in Putney) of wine they do. Last time we were here we had a bottle of Muscadet, and the kitchen was accommodating for a special request for one of the dishes we had. Everything tasted great, we had the Chicken Tikka Masala, another Chicken curry that comes with salad (out of the ordinary but good) I can't remember the name of, and cheesy peas+potatoes without the potatoes. For dessert it was this ice cream in a Winnie The Pooh style honey pot. Unsurprisingly that was good too. I've been to most of the Indian restaurants in Putney and I like them all but this is my favourite (Samratt comes a close 2nd).
