When you walk in, you clearly get the vibe that this is a university student's frequent haunt. As we shopped here, students came in and out, receive a discount, and generally have their needs met with the types of clothing available. However, the selection of clothes in the store isn't so student oriented that a wider audience won't be able to find something of interest. The first floor is more women's oriented, with tartan featuring prominently. The second floor is men's, which had some decent selections of Fred Perrys and the like. When we were there, the store was staffed just by a couple girls on the first floor, and they were pretty deep in conversation with each other. Didn't bother us at all, but perhaps don't expect to have staff catering to your every need here. But if you just like to do your thing and browse through the racks, you should be well sorted.,

I spent good money (too much) on trousers that had an irreparable defect that I did not notice until I put them on at home. I understand this is a risk with 2nd hand clothing, and places don't accept returns etc, but I do draw the line at paying ~£30 for something I literally can't wear. I messaged their instagram page about it and expressed my disappointment that they weren't willing to reconcile this in any way (I said I felt this was poor customer service) and the message I received back was so cheeky I am honestly in disbelief. So here I am doing the only thing I can do since I've literally wasted my money.

Childish I know...but back in the days of said GH I was often in here buying and selling clothes (this was the days before eBay kids) which was a brilliant idea. I'm not 100% sure they still do that now, but because of eBay (other auction sites are available) I very much doubt they still offer this service. Not a vintage shop as such, more a nearly new shop as I would guess 90% of their stock is (very) new/modern items & a lot appearing to be hardly worn. So I guess I would describe this as a sort of 'vintage' shop for folk that don't like retro styles. You'll find high street & fashion labels such as Top Shop, ASOS, River Island and others as well as the odd Karen Millen & more high end/designer items too. Everything is laid out very well & there's lots of space to wander & browse, it's also got great lighting too which is something some other vintage/2nd hand shops seem to lack. As well as clothes they sell shoes/boots, bags, belts & some jewellery too. Everything is a pretty reasonable price, especially considering the condition of the items. You can pick up some real bargains here if you can be bothered searching (Me = always!). Last time I was in I found 2 dresses I really liked but didn't have enough cash on me to pay for them (Note: they don't take cards here) so they nice lady serving said she would put them aside whilst I went in search of a cash machine (there's plenty on nearby Byres road) and when I returned she very kindly rounded down the price of the 2 dresses saving me a couple of quid! Such a lovely gesture. The staff here have always been super nice & friendly which is always a wee bonus. It's service like that that keeps folk coming back. For trying on clothes they have one small changing area which is better than nowt but can be a pain when the shop's busy, but good things come to those who wait...supposedly! It might be off the beaten (Ruthvern Lane) track but this wee hidden gem is well worth a swatch. Another example of a fantastic wee local Glasgow business.

Glorious has always been one of my very first stops when shopping in the West End for as long as I…read morecan remember. In fact, from way back when it was known as The Glory Hole. (I actually prefer the risque name!) The problem with Glorious is that that I NEVER leave without purchasing anything, and that's no exaggeration. If I can limit myself to a fortnightly visit and a maximum of two items purchased I'm doing well. The stock is always carefully selected- lots of on trend pieces, lots of items you missed out on first time round from the High Street, and a nice little smattering of vintage. There's also always a great selection of handbags. I think the prices are extremely competitive too. Its always possible to get two of three items for under £20 but equally you might spot a really special designer piece and pay a bit more for it but still get a bargain. The owners and staff are lovely and always enthusiastic about offering an opinion if needed. They all seem to take great pride in Glorious and subsequently all items for sale are of the highest quality; washed, pressed and ready to be worn. Often this can be a rarity from a secondhand store. Cant recommend this place enough and looking forward to my next pay day!

I'm ashamed to say I'd never been in before as I'm really not much of a charity/vintage shopper (something to do with a short attention span and a sensitive nose). Starry Starry Night is really different from the other shops in the West End - mainly because it's not a charity one, so it has a really different look, feel and range to it. It's for vintage aficionados (of which I'm not) but I still really liked the shop. It's got such an interesting range, from kilts to gloves, to a lovely jewellery section as well as coats, dresses and skirts. They have a really sweet part of the store with pull out drawers with things like ties, scarves, gloves. I really liked the interior of this store and will definitely be back for another nosey soon!

To be honest I never look at the clothes, there does seem to be a great selection for your average west end hipster tho....top hats, military jackets, japanese kimonos and the like. However, it is the jewellery in this shop that I am always drawn to. They always have the best selection of glittery broaches, necklaces and gorgeous sparkly earrings to choose from. My favourite era for jewellery is the 1900 - 1920s which the usually have lots of so I very very rarely leave the shop without purchasing a little treat. Everything is very reasonably priced and well worth a visit if you are looking for something a little more unique.

Shop for a bit, then take your ease with a cup of coffee and maybe something sweet. Sandwiches are also available, and there are cute little tables outside if you fancy sitting in the sun. Otherwise, some vintage tables inside amongst all the pretty. The clothes on display are a mix of authentic vintage and some designer direct. Both areas are a bit pricey. One 80's style polka dot dress was marked at £50, even though it had been clearly altered (badly). Personally, I would have marked it down for the defect, but then I don't run the place. The designer rack is full of colourful and unique dresses from local designers. Many of them are one-off originals, so you can understand that it's a bit pricey. The entire place was gorgeous as a whole, and had a certain style to it that we've come to expect of a vintage store. Minus a couple of points for being a bit dear, but overall, a good look.

Unlike neighboring store Glorious, Circa sells genuine vintage clothing from the 1920s to the 1980s and not old second hand clothes from high street stores. The selection of vintage jewellery, bags and hats is definitely among the best, if not the best, in the West End of Glasgow. I recently bought a gorgeous 1920s evening bag in perfect condition for £20 from Circa. However, along with amazing dresses, coats, hats and knitwear, Circavintage's stock is very wearable. Unusual enough to fall in love with it, knowing that you won't find it again, but not too out-there that it'll hang in your wardrobe unworn. There are loads of on-trend items, and if you look at their Asos Marketplace page, you will see how it can easily be styled. Extremely reasonably priced, although they don't take card so hit the ATM before you go. Their jewellery is also fab - again very reasonably priced. Lots of unusual and gorgeous pieces. The owner is a fountain of knowledge about vintage clothing and fashion generally, is great for a chinwag, and her little dog sometimes comes for a visit and is always welcome for a wee pet :) NB: Ruthven Lane is under serious threat of being made into blocks of flats, so please go support one of Glasgow's few pockets of character!!

I'm afraid it was neither my style nor within my price range despite the fact it was second hand - or gently used as described on the shop front. I did get some strange looks from the woman behind the counter when I entered the shop too, so I get the impression I was not their targetted or desired customer - I think a classier, slightly older lady was expected, one who looks a bit more well-off too! It is all designer clothing, after all. Still, it's a very nicely set out shop - and all the stock couldn't look less second hand - beautifully treated. Maybe I'll come back when I get a proper career and a bit more cash to splash.

A lot of it even still has the tags on! You can tell that the owner of the store knows exactly what she is doing. She only selects the best of the best with nothing looking dated or "last season", think more classic and timeless, which is what you want when you're spending this kind of money. While you can definitely pick up a bargain at Isabella's Wardrobe it is a bargain relative to the items original cost. You can pick up a good as new Chloe bag for around £400 but you have to bear in mind that it would have originally been about £600-£800! This isn't a shop I can afford to buy from often but when I get my bonus this year I will definitely be popping in to buy myself to an extra special little treat!

Retro clothing shops have recently become very popular, at least in Glasgow. Situated between two…read moreother popular vintage clothing shops, Retro has its work cut out for it. However, unlike the other vintage shops, the clothes in Retro, are actually vintage. Too many times a vintage shop will showcase clothes which are just 'hand me downs' or donations, but you can see on the label that they're from a popular high street shop. Not so with Retro. All manner of vintage merchandise, including some very questionable dresses, which, though I wouldn't wear them now, I can see I would have back in the 60's. I bought a lovely 20's hat, complete with netting and the shop-worker was very helpful. I tried it on, we chatted for a few minutes about the hat itself, and I felt confident in my purchase. I imagine if she'd been a bit snobbier, I wouldn't have bothered. But she seemed as excited about my purchase as I was, and that's a good thing. A great place to go to get a unique outfit (maybe for a special occasion) that you know that no one else will have. Nothing worse than showing up at a party in the same dress as someone else. A little on the pricey side, but they take good care of their merchandise, so it's justifiable. If you ask, they'll even tell you the best way to clean it so as not to ruin it at home (which is my talent). Seriously, have a chat with them, even if you don't end up buying anything. The service alone will have you coming back again.

What a gem! I have a confession: I suck at vintage shopping. The idea appeals to me but the actual experience of hunting through racks isn't really my thing and I lose interest after about 30 seconds. Thankfully I spotted something I loved before the 30 seconds expired and then I was hooked on this place. I got a super awesome red beaded necklace and then decided to treat myself to new earrings too. Everything is very reasonably priced, super lovely PLUS you can pay on card which is a massive bonus. I can't wait for a second visit - this might just be the start of a vintage-buying-bender.

So, with this in mind I set about scouring all available charity and retro shops for the odd bit of funky tartan. After grabbing a rather nifty pair of tartan troos from a charity shop a few months ago, I've since been on the trail of a nice tartan waistcoat to join my growing collection of man girdles... I mean, waistcoats... ahem... Aye, so I popped in here after a wee mop chop at the neighbouring Mo Hair and spotted a kick ass wee tartan job for about a tenner. Sold. This place is very reasonable and jam packed with a ton of vintage gear ranging in styles. Good service. Good prices. Good heavens I'll be back!

The City is a recent addition to Glasgow's vintage scene, and jam packed with clothes!…read more It's a wonder the rales withstand all these items hanging on them; and you'd need a good 6 hours to spare to get through everything they've got in here. From old bat wing jumpers to spangly velvet prom dresses, it's enough to beat the 80s out your system by snaffling up these goodies. The store is split evenly into guys and doll's clothes, although choice for the senorita's seems to top the bill as they have an extensive range of long dresses, dating as far back as the 50s. But most of their clothing seems to be from the 70s and beyond as there are a lot of old tennis tops to be had for men, and brown prarie dresses for women. Items look evenly and fairly priced, so you're looking to spend roughly £20 on a dress, £15 on a skirt, £10 on a jumper and the tops are super cheap. For guys, they have decent priced Wrangler denim shirts (which as I'm writing this are very in), sports jackets galore (so you can look like an 80s footballer) and loads of jeans in really good condition. The rails are crammed with choice. The girls who work in here are lovely - very chipper, helpful and you can hear them singing along to their CD's! I got a plaid shirt out of here today so I was chatting away to one of the girls. She sounds like she's Spanish, I'm not sure, but she says they source their stock from as far away as Germany and Holland. It explains the variety of clothing, as you can always find something different in here. And it's cheap, so I will be taking advantage of their nautical selections since they are so affordable!
