As an outsider, I initially did not see the difference between Montessori and standard pre-kindergarten childcare. My first revelation came about 6 weeks after being there. Our daughter was 19 months old and suddenly came home and was ready to start wearing big girl panties. This was a revelation to my wife and I as it isn't something we had really even discussed. We found that our daughter continually hit checkbox's that we had set forth in our mind and her social development was excellent. All of the teachers that she had through her time at Lakewood were excellent in our opinion. Whenever my wife and I volunteered at the school, staff was friendly and I would always rave about how well children were behaved and classrooms were very orderly. The transition from pre-primary to primary Montessori was really quite seamless and most importantly the transition from Montessori to first grade was excellent. We couldn't be happier with our experience at Lakewood Montessori.

I worked there for over a year and had such a fantastic experience. I went to college to be a teacher, but this was my first experience with the Montessori curriculum. After years of studying and working in academia, Lakewood made me fall in love with this program. The children are taught more than academics, and more often than not, they were at levels higher than those academically required at their age. As for Meg, I am unsure where her credibility to write such review comes from. I worked with her for 2.5 months of the maybe 3 months she was there. On several occasions she confided in me, and I can say with fair certainty that this was a job taken in disparity rather than for the desire to do it.  Unfortunately, yes she came in during a time when we were shorter on staff due to several pregnancies, the summer season, and staff transitions. However, the directors always made sure no one missed their break, worked too much, or was left alone. And you, Meg, I write this here because I have no other means to communicate with you. I find it absurd that you talk about too much chaos/stress and lack if warmth, when you are about as tough as a twig and as warm as an ice pack. You became stressed just by having to take ONE upset child on a walk. And it was basically protocol to offer a hug to any child that was troubled, and yet you looked scared just to hold their hand. Also, this "I am experienced in early childhood education" nonsense? You are 21 years old and haven't gotten a degree, or even gone to college. In all our conversations about students, class, and technique did you ever mention this expansive knowledge. Often you came to me for help and advise.  Do not put yourself in the same place as those of us who actually poured our time, energy, and heart into this subject. I am truly disappointed by how ungrateful you were about the opportunity you were given. You were put in a class with one lead teacher who has 10+ years of Montessori experience and another lead teacher with a heart of gold, both of which took on several "assistant tasks" to ease your stress. Not to mention accommodations done for the sake of your "health and well being" by the administration. And don't say "I was told I was not a fit" when the director found out you were looking for another job (after just 1.5 months) and was still told you were welcome to stay until you found a new position. Which was more than generous considering how negative you were throughout the whole experience.

In my first 25 years I fished mostly freestone rivers and some tailwater. I spent a lot those years on Fall River and Hat Creek. In the later 25 years I got busy with life and fished less frequently until about 8 years ago I started spending more time on tailwater rivers and some freestone. I met Mike Sandifer in 2019 while attending a Drop Shot Nymphing Seminar at Northwest School of Fly Fishing. In those two hours, I was all consumed by Mike's 100% logical approach to fly fishing. This approach resonated with me quickly after nearly a 35-year career as a Mechanical Systems Engineer. Mike was brokering in fly fishing logic which made complete sense to me. I've read a few FF books and watched a number of videos over the years, but no one I found had ever explained FF in a way Mike does. Pickup his book "Critical Concepts of Fly Fishing" and you will receive an education of a life time from a master. It might be the mostly highly concentrated bit of information on a dozen or more critical concepts. No matter where you land on the continuum of fly-fishing experience, every FF angler will benefit from mastering these concepts. I was blown away on my first read and I continue to use it as reference. While I'm not much of a reader, I destroyed two of his books within days of buying them. The other is on Drop Shot Nymphing. Why anyone in America would use any other method is beyond me. Mike explains the method and approach in the most in depth manner. No one can touch a candle to his teaching on this method. Simply put, it catches more trout than any other method I know or tried. The best thing about it, it is 100% logical. If you don't put the nymph in the target area you are not going to catch fish. No one can argue the science. This last year I made a new commitment to fish more and learn more. There is no place in Treasure Valley and frankly anywhere I've been that has such a "treasure" among us as those of us that live here. Mike has dedicated his life to fly fishing (truly - just ask him) and loves to share, coach, and teach his 35 years of learning and fishing the Southwestern part of Idaho and adjoined states. I started meeting Mike in the mornings at his training center in Boise to ask questions and gain knowledge of where and how best to fish our local area (most locations are 1.5 hours or less drive from his office). I recently registered for his "The Heart Beat and Rhythm of River" 1 on 1 sessions and we now meet weekly. For me it has been a privilege to spend as much time as I have and gain such an enormous amount of knowledge and practical guidance to allow me to become a better FF angler. This year I have branched out to new waters I've never fished and have the time of my life. I'm going to become a year-round FF angler now thanks to Mike. I'm only sorry I did begin this journey with Mike sooner. Mike is patient and loves to coach others on his craft. He is a master, so don't wait as long as I did and stop in today to meet Mike. Mike is a master communicator so visit his website, email him, call him, and visit his YouTube channel. When you subscribe to his YouTube channel you will find over 120 videos that will blow you away. Simple, concise, and packed full of amazing information and knowledge. Thank you, Mike, for your gift of sharing and coaching all of us who desire to be better anglers. I appreciate my time visiting with you and your friendship.

I scored a good deal on Groupon, picked up a bottle of wine, and we headed to the studio on a Friday night. We got to use the airbrush and even spray paint on our master pieces this time. And, as always, Alex made the night fun, engaging, and creative, and we all ended up with a great painting of happy little trees to take home and brag about. Now, can I remember everything we did? Paint, scavenger hunt, paint, view a couple short videos of Alex's work (amazing), paint, roof view of Boise and foothills, paint, and adding a layer to the splatter paint room. Bring plenty of wine because it's going to be a long, fun evening.

The studio is awesome, but it was Alex & Mandy that made the night so much fun! The hours went by so fast, w/ drying times occupied by a scavenger hunt, adding our mark to the group paintings and a beer break. The evening ended w/ Alex's surprise piano solo! Though my husband had a bit of painting experience, my daughter & I hadn't ever done a painting. We were so surprised that we could end up with a real painting that we liked enough to display! We had so much fun and even my husband said he'd want to do it again! That is the ultimate endorsement!
