This Irving Oil gas station was our rental car fill up spot on both ends of our recent St. John's…read moreto Trinity road trip via the Trans Canada Highway or TCH. There's also a Tim Horton's next door which was a coffee/baked goods/bathroom bonus. It was relatively easy to access off and back on the TCH, while the fueling lanes were a little challenging to navigate considering the other customers already there. When I'm finished filling up and need snacks, I usually move out of the lane and park the car near the front, as to give other customers room. Apparently, this was not the practice here, which required the equivalent of a parallel park to reach an open pump. Then on top of that, the pump used swipe technology that was funky in spots. On the return trip, that required a trip inside, only to be told that I could pump the gas first and then pay. I hadn't done that since Spain, but I appreciate them trusting me.

First of all, this is an Irving Big Stop, known for not a bad place for travelers, however, this particular place could use some improvements. Our waitress was a little contrary, no politeness like you would expect from wait staff, it seemed like she had no interest in serving the customers ( the other waitresses seemed so pleasant that my wife walked up to the to ask for crayons for my daughter because she didn't want to bother our waitress). Other than that, the food was pretty decent. The big disappointment was the bathrooms. Many a time I have gone here and there be some problem with the bathroom. Two out of four urinals were out of order, with garbage bags taped to them, the toilet stalls had no toilet paper on the rolls, just a roll of toilet paper on the tank of the toilet (with brown finger marks on the side of the roll where somebody had got excrement on there fingers then used the roll. The entire bathroom smelled like a urinal cake, and no paper towels on the holders, just loose sitting in a puddle of water on the counter. Every time I have visited this place it has been something wrong withe the bathroom facilities.
