I've been on a self-guided craft cidery tour of Victoria Island and the quality of the cider here is second to none. And the atmosphere is classy modern-farmhouse if you are collecting Instagram pics! They won the People's Choice cider festival award for a reason! The owner was on site and very friendly. She explained the apple cultivars are all old-world imports, and you can absolutely taste that in the flavor bouquet. None of the usual flavor gimmicks here! The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and encouraged me to try the lavender, (normally I'd not bother with flavors) an it was fantastic-- inviting and crisp on the nose and pallet. After that taste, I dove into a quince and a hopped semisweet, and was blown away the complexity. All selections had beautiful clarity and a mellow butter smoothness and full bodied viscosity. Of note, even on a busy holiday weekend there was plenty of room and very fast service--unlike some of the more touristy spots. Families, doggos, couples and groups all had space and privacy to laugh and enjoy themselves. Don't hesitate. Go now!

On week-ends, during fair weather, this place gets packed!…read more It's quite popular with families with children, as there's a field for the kids to roam and play. People play Frisbee and cornhole, or just chill on the Adirondack chairs. On chillier days or if staying for the evening, bring a blanket, a poncho or a coat. There are multiple vendors that sell food (pizza, vegan ice cream and such), though they do not operate every week-day. There's a drinking room inside, which is also where people congregate in the winter. They've got a large variety of their ciders on tap accompanied by helpful descriptions. The bartenders are friendly and will steer you right if you need help making a selection. There's flights and glass pours. The flights are fun - I highly recommend doing it! My friends and I, we do a flight per two people, and then we each order a glass (or two) of our favorites. During cold winter, they also sell hot cider (not-alcoholic), which you can have spiked with apple spirit. On week-end nights, there's often live music playing in the early evening in the big tent / dining hall. It's open air, so bring a blanket or a coat

It is a stark contrast from the consumerist drudgery, hyper-stimulation, and quotidian violence of the modern U.S. market-scape which has metastasized like a bad rash over the land. An alternative way of relating to strangers and community members alike, around long wooden tables, listening to local folk performers stirs up a sense of communality from long-ago genetic and cultural memories. Eating good food, and drinking from a curated collection of ciders each infused and brewed slightly differently makes you feel "rich" in the true sense of humanity and wellbeing. I recommend this unusual vision of communal gathering -- where you can wander between wooden beam-constructed huts in which various food vendors are selling specialty items, then gather to sit down and eat in a large tent. Here you can also enjoy open farm vistas, and explore some planted rows. There is whimsical art festooned around the collection of low-slung huts. The ground is not paved so you can feel as if you are in touch with the earth. My food choice was a bahn mi sandwich which was excellently executed with toasted bread, both tasty and filling. It used a tempeh made with wheat grown in Chimacum itself. It had beautifully pickled daikon, carrots, and cilantro while the mayo was warming. Missing jalapenos were compensated for with chili sauces that you could custom add. I washed this down with a small six ounce glass of a mix of ciders because I couldn't decide my favorite flavors (strawberry infused cider was my jam that day). Be aware that food vendors will be different depending on the day of your visit. I feel that the care & finesse with which the bahn mi was executed is an indication of the high caliber of curated, prepared food available for purchase at this "farm" experience. It was the perfect Fall day -no rain! We stopped in the Cidery and grabbed a beer for hubby and a wine for me. There was live music...a group playing Celtic songs. The bar offers a cup of food pellets for feeding the critters but we didn't think K was quite ready for that. We went to find the animals and discovered what a gem this place is. Highland Cows, donkey, a small horse, several goats and an alpaca. Really a great variety. And so friendly! We were able to pick up a few pellets for K and he LOVED feeding the goats! The grounds are amazing - way bigger than I expected. I could see how this would be spectacular to hang out on a summer afternoon. We'll be back!!

We'd seen Valley Cider a few years ago back during Cider Festival. While on the island, we decided…read moreto check out their taproom. We dropped in on a late Saturday afternoon (around 3:30pm). The tasting room can fit two groups in at a time. Service was friendly and informative. We lucked out and our tasting was done by the cidermaker himself! Interesting to see what went behind certain flavours and ideas. Tasting is complimentary and we were given 5 cider samples to try (plus a bonus soda). Cider bottles are $4.99 (330ml) and sodas are $3.99. They even had a mingler ($50.00 for 12 bottles). - Community-in-cider - a smorgasboard of apples (that would have been discarded) from the surrounding area. Pleasantly smooth. A good heritage cider. - Ginnish - we liked that it wasn't overly juniper heavy. Light with different flavour notes coming through. - Humulus lupulus - a lot of lychee and honey on the nose. Again, light but refreshing. An excellent hopped cider (which is due to using aromatic hops). - Poïple - beautiful colour from using the pea blossom. More of the fruitier style that we are used to with crushed blueberries and lemon zest. - Winter - a mix of winter spices (we tasted notes of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla). - Absinthe soda - normally we don't like anise but it was very well balanced and rounded. A variety of flavours come through and these soda babies only have 50g of sugar. We bought half a dozen cider bottles (love potion, farriessence, gingerella, rouge, cider noir and ¡feugo!) and two sodas (ginger and citrus). Can't wait to try out these flavours! VC was a pleasant surprise. Worth a visit if you're a cider aficionado.
