    Broccoli rabe sandwich

I loved their seasonal pear tart so HAD to grab that again but also have been hankering for a cruffin and an apple pie filling sounded like the perfect fall treat

Stopped here before sight seeing because we were starving. Not a great lunch but it filled a need! The chicken was super dry and the fries were under seasoned. The cruffin was great though!

    Southwest salad

We stopped here for lunch because it was dog friendly, but that's only outside on the patio so thankfully we found a small table available. We ordered at the counter and they gave us a marker so they could bring the food to us. I ordered the Brussels sprout salad and added falafel. This salad was so amazingly delicious. I love roasted Brussels sprouts, and this hit the spot and was surprisingly filling. However, I wish there had been some other items in there to add some variety to the dish. My husband got the southwest salad and that came with chicken chorizo, black beans, cheese and avocado and he enjoyed it and it was also very filling. Very good and would recommend this restaurant.

Sesame kale salad with chicken - about 6/7 out of 10

Junction was close to both the office and my hotel, so I came here two days in a row for dinner. Good thing the food was great! Would definitely stop by in the future to try the pastries. For my first night, I went with the healthy option - the sesame kale salad with chicken. My jaw got a solid workout from all the fiber in the bowl, the kale, purple cabbage, red pepper, carrots. Lots of veggies, though I should have asked for some more dressing on the side, it all got kind of dry after a while. My second night, I went for the turkey avocado BLT which was BY FAR the better of the two. Served on two gloriously thick slices of toasted white bread, it had generous layers of turkey and bacon, avocado, and mayo. Not the neatest thing to consume and you do have to unhinge your jaw to get everything in one bite, but I loved it and it definitely powered me through a late night of working. Seating both inside and outdoors; I preferred the latter. Once it hits 6pm, there's definitely a post-work rush, not a surprise given its prime location near Union Station, and it became pretty loud/crowded. Dinners both time (a main and a drink) were around $25-30, so not the cheapest option, but for the quality and portion, it was pretty reasonable.

    drunken fish sandwich, potato chips
    J. T.

Drunken Fish is a smashing beer-battered fish sandwich - hunks of flash fried cod slathered in a homemade tartar sauce, thick pickles and lettuce. A tasty brioche bun - barely - held it together. The chips are freshly made to order and piping-hot spectacular. A block from the Hart Senate Office Bldg, the service is quick and efficient and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the ambience is very Cap Hill casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Short Stack Biscuit with Braised Short Rib, Onions, Cheddar, Egg, and a Cheddar Chive Biscuit ($17)
    Tiffany Y.

I came here with friends on a Saturday for a quick brunch since you're able to order at the counter and then get served. I'm not sure if the day we came was just abnormally understaffed, but the wait time for our food was almost an hour. There weren't even that many customers inside, but there only seemed to be 2-3 people working. I got the Short Stack Biscuit ($17), which has braised short rib, mustard onions, white cheddar, and scrambled egg on a cheddar chive biscuit. The short rib was very tender, but it was also super oily. I wish there has been something more acidic on the biscuit to cut the fat. The biscuit sandwich was still good, but it ended up being much more heavy and salty than expected. The dish is also supposed to be served with home fries sautéed with peppers & onions, but they ran out of vegetables and didn't give any heads up, so it ended up being A LOT of potato. I would probably only come back if my friends wanted to, but the food and service time were just okay to me.

Such a great happy hour we went back the next day too!! Thanks for the great service!!

    Meatloaf

Stopped by in hopes of trying a new place in the neighborhood. I ordered the meatloaf. It was not my favorite. It has a hardened texture and lacked flavor. The veggies were great and the gravy wasn't bad. I also tried the sangria and the punch. Both were good. The bartender was attentive.

    Turkey BLT with kettle chips

Came to Junction Bistro & Bar in November since I was in the neighborhood in search of a coffee shop/bakery of the sort with food because I was really hungry. The menu was pretty extensive for such a place, which was a relief. They did not have pour coffee when I arrived, but I was able to get some mocha. It was tasty but needed extra sugar. I ordered the Turkey BLT + chips & it was pretty decent. I think the bacon was the true star of the sandwich. It was thick cuts of bacon. I also ordered the Friday special, which was $7 spiked cider or mulled wine. I ordered the spiked cider. I was pleasantly surprised at how yummy it was. I ordered it hot, and I am sure that made a huge difference. The atmosphere itself can be cozy & average noise, but will quickly turn into a bar atmosphere after 5pm. As a Fall/Autumn lover, I really loved the cute table decor. Overall, I do like the place. Solid daily specials, decent food and drinks, and nice staff. If I return again, I would like to order pour coffee, a pastry, and the highly recommended hot chicken sandwich.

    Churro Cruffin
    Audrey R.

I feel like normal people see things once on the internet and then obsess over them until they have them....right? or am I just justifying this purchase - my first cruffin experience in the sweltering heat of DC was an absolutely enjoyable one - I chose the churro over mango passion fruit because it seemed safer. - insanely soft and flakey yet part of outside still had a crisp baked croissant feel - absolutely filled with a cinnamon churro cream, I was happy the topping cream was different as it was just vanilla. the actual churro on the top was unfortunately stale but the muffin itself could have been made 2 seconds ago so it was okay that it just added decoration - i love the clean open vibe of this place, it's counter service but with cafe style seating and restaurant level dishes - I got an americano too that was absolutely massive and I weirdly loved the fact that the straw was like an inch wide lmao

We were lucky enough to snag some goodies and got a bit of everything, we just weren't patient enough to wait to photograph everything. We did the Za'atar Gruyère Croissant, chocolate croissant, the cheese biscuit item they had (don't remember exact name) and the sfogliatelle. I'm in search of the best croissant in DC, so I regret not getting the regular croissant on this visit, but the chocolate croissant gave me an idea of what to expect. Buttery, flaky, crispy, with just the perfect amount of sweetness. The typical chocolate croissant was my personal favorite. When we asked what the most popular items were, we were surprised it wasn't the more classic bakery items, but we enjoyed what we tried. We want to go back soon to try some other items as well. My friend got a coffee and also enjoyed that! This is the perfect place to stop by for a treat if you make it in time!

All the pastry was delightfully flaky and appropriately filled. Pistachio croissant was dancing on the edge of being a bit too sweet but went very well with my latte. Latte and cappuccino were nothing to write home about, potentially underextracted as there wasn't too much flavor coming through. Totally inoffensive and wouldn't hesitate to get another espresso drink if we were grabbing pastries again. Nice quaint limited outdoor seating. The interior is small but cozy- there's also some seats/tables outside. I ordered the savory scone and a chocolate croissant and they were both delicious. The scone had cheese, mushroom, and chives which all worked nicely together. The texture on the croissant is peak. Perfectly crunchy/buttery exterior with satisfying soft chew in the middle. The chocolate in the middle was the perfect amount and wasn't too sweet either. For drinks, their syrups are also made in the house too! I ordered the Chai and at first I asked for half the syrup because I'm not a fan of drinks that are too sweet, but the person who took my order assured me that it's not too sweet to begin with and she was right! The spices in the syrup were delicious Nice ambiance, friendly service, and delicious baked goods! Overall, one of my favorite bakeries I've ever been to. In our typical tradition, we cut everything into fourths and the whole family tries every pastry (everyone wins... ;). We thoroughly enjoyed both the savory and sweet (chocolate) options. I could see how this would be an acquired taste for some. I loved being able to peak into the kitchen to see the big oven and where all the magic happens. I also appreciated their sweet neighborhood location and the big windows offering lots of natural light. Overall, a positive and tasty experience.

Unfortunately, the location in DC has permanently closed and we were still very much in the mood for some pastries... my cousin who is French has previously sang the praises of this Lil French pastry shop, so of course I had to give it a try. I am so happy that I did because I truly believe that I have stumbled upon my new favorite pastry shop in the area! Upon walking in the smell of croissants and almonds and sweet, sweet delicacies filled my nostrils. I basically became the human version of Remy from ratatouille inhaling a delicious bouillabaisse simmering on the stove top for hours....seeing colors and flavors so bright and intoxicating I simply had to have it I walked in and my eyes were instantly attracted to so many delicious options from classics like Palmiers and Napoleons to some unique flavor combos I've never tried before combined like raspberry and pistachio. Of course, I decided to grab a little bit of everything to make an accurate assessment as a YELP Elite should!! My favorite hands-down was the Berry Millefuille. The way the pastry crumbled in my mouth with every bite, combined with the tart, fresh raspberries, and thick flavorful custard.... Was worth every penny. Honorable mentions go to the peach rosemary tart, which was so unique with the added botanical of rosemary with some fresh sweet peach slices on top and a very crunchy tart base. We all enjoyed everything we purchased! I also ordered one of their seasonal specialties, the rosemary latte with skim milk and iced. The flavors were so uniquely crafted to where you could taste everything but everything combined together for the perfect sip. The ladies who greeted us at the cash register were so patient, so kind, and so understanding of my excitement and difficulty deciding and they even helped me add on a little chocolate happy birthday rectangle to the pastry I purchased for my husband! Without a doubt, this is only the first of the many times I will visit the establishment. It was so authentic, so delicious and passed all the vibe checks even from the French side of the family. I was told I have to return when they first open to have a fresh croissant and a fresh baguette that is on par with what you would have in Paris. Even the items in the fridge were made in France and were delicious fruit nectars that were very unique- we purchased a passionfruit nectar that didn't even make it past the doors before we had completely inhaled it and purchased a lychee nectar for later. I am so excited to have learned about this establishment and believe me when I say you must run, not walk, to experience it for yourself.
