Dr. Griffith is a really great doctor who uses both eastern and western medicine to heal her patients and specializes in neurology and chronic conditions for both adults and children. She has a wonderful bedside energy and is very kind. She spends a lot of time getting to know and understand her patients also she can make sure to properly diagnose and treat for optimal health. She's very smart and a fantastic problem solver. She has helped our family through some very tough illnesses and we appreciate her very much. read more

Please ignore my previous post. Since posting this (it was true at the time) I have had a very different encounter with her that was very disappointing. All I can say is boundaries may need to be established prior to billing and be prepared to be drained of at least $2500 with each "encounter". If you have the money, go for it. I do not believe it is fair value exchange unless you have a very unique case that involves Lyme disease. read more

Julie was absolutely wonderful in diagnosing my son's serious and difficult-to-identify condition, pointing me to a lab in France that specialized in heavy metal testing. She even agreed to travel with me to NJ to testify in a lawsuit against the drug company responsible for his vaccine injury. Dr Griffith is amazing. She combines the best of traditional western medicine with a more subtle and nuanced holistic approach. Her intuitive skills are one of a kind. She was able to help me with health problems that I have had for years that stumped may other doctors. She will help you fine tune your diet and identify nutritional deficiencies so that your body can heal itself. This is obviously a safer, healthier approach to medicine than the usual immediate reliance on very strong pharmaceuticals which most have dangerous side effects. With the prescriptions I must take, she was able to help me find the lowest and safest dosage. I don't write reviews unless I feel strongly about an experience and want to help others with their diligence on a provider. I had an initial consultation with Julie, her new assistant took 30 mins to schedule me an appt.. they required a CC and charged me $25 before my appt. Julie does not accept insurance, she bills patients at time of appt, sends a super bill (which was 3+ weeks late, incorrect, and charged my CC before giving me any notes or follow up or anything at all, also said the $25 charge was incorrect and would be taken off the bill.. which still was not and I'll need to follow up again). my experience with Julie and her entire office was horrible. It was impossible for me to justify her fee and deal with her and her staff. She did no 'assessment' on me at all, also had me sit on FaceTime in silence while she wrote out her notes, which extended our call time and was billed. I would not recommend going to her if pregnant, this is not her area of expertise... maybe not migraines either. At my initial appt she offered lots of things she would follow up with me on, she did absolutely no follow up at all except a bill of $620. she charges for every text, convo, etc.. though over 50% of the time I am following up with things that was not given to me or issues they have on their tech/admin side or inefficiencies. I would not recommend Julie at all. I read lots of other reviews as well and did my research before going to see her and I feel I was mislead by other reviews as my experience was so terrible. I was really looking forward to an alternative neurologist though her inefficient process was too much for one doctor and wasted a lot of my time. hope this helps read more

Dr Griffith is a quack at its best. Before any consultation, she requests a credit card while stating that she only accepts cash and only panelled with Cigna. She will also request you to send lab reports and medications dosages on elation passport.Once she has your card, she will call the pharmacy to request your medications, call your provider for medical records( by the way all this information is already sent on elation passport) and give you a run around while still charging your credit card. Her main goal is to extort you financially to the maximum level and her care doesn't commensurate with experience. read more

I feel so blessed to have found Dr Griffith. I had been looking for a Dr who truly understands treating children with autism. She gets it! She is very knowledgeable and shares that knowledge freely and in a way that I easily understand. She listens to your concerns and has a holistic approach to addressing them. We began going to Dr Griffith at the end of October and in just a couple of months with the treatment prescribed by Dr Griffith, my son is more responsive, more aware of what is going on around him, his aggression is under control and his speech is improving. Dr. Griffith is an exceptional doctor. Since my child had been diagnosed with Autism four years ago, we have worked with many specialists and hands down, Dr. Griffith is the one of the best! She has been treating my child for the last three years. Not only she possesses a great amount of knowledge, she is also very caring and a compassionate human being. I went to see Dr. Griffith for a 2nd opinion and treatment options for a Demyelinating brain and spinal cord acute problem I am currently having. We started the session by confirming that I only wanted 1 hour for this first meeting knowing the extreme fees of $500 per hour were going to be charged. The session proceeded with Dr. Griffith reviewing my previous blood work labs and asking questions about my medical history all of which I had provided on the forms in advance. Not sure why I need to be paying for this review if all was submitted in advance. A few areas came up in the conversation around my symptoms of fatigue and very occasional double vision. As she reviewed my blood lab work, she was coming up with her own lab work request for me to perform ... most of which centered on Lyme disease as the culprit, but I had shown her the recently negative results of the CDC approved Lyme test prescribed to me by my attending Neurologist at UCSF. She dismissed those results as not checking the right IGG and IGM bands. It became very hard to follow her thought process as it seemed the whole session was about her asking me what I already am experiencing and what I already knew and when it came to reviewing my MRI images she had a lot to say all of which I could not understand. A few times during the session the conversation moved to what she knew, her stories and experiences, and which other Dr.'s and Researchers were important in these areas of Medicine and why more lab work around Lyme was needed. This conversation extended the session over the approved 1 hour limit I had started with to control the fees. Total time in this session went to 100 mins of which I received a bill for $833.33. As I now look at the bill it shows a Diagnosis on it... interesting that Dr. Griffith has a Diagnosis for me where in 6 months of working with multiple Dr's, Neurologists, an infectious disease Dr, and 3 visits to the ER, nobody else has diagnosed me with anything more specific than an Acute Demyelinating Event. Now for the kicker on the value of this session and over billing ... for $833.33 Dr. Griffith has now: 1) Diagnosed me with: 1) Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 2) EBV, and 3) Diplopia. Hmm, CFS seems to be a catch all as I mentioned I feel Fatigued, EBV? I had EBV when I was a teenager and she saw my blood work labs from July that was IGG positive for EBV, but IGM negative .. so how could I have EBV active now if IGM is negative? And how would EBV relate to the Demyelinating event I am currently experiencing? And Diplopia is double vision which I mentioned was a sometime symptom I have experienced, and now I have a diagnosis of double vision? 2) I left the office with the large brown/white bag filled with new tests to take and some to send out of state. The kicker was one of these tests was $2800 and not covered by insurance. And the other tests require a Credit Card to perform. I wonder if Dr. Griffith gets kick backs from all these extra tests which was eluded to in other Rip Off reports I read on Dr. Griffith. 3) This was an initial meeting to just get the billing meter started. We scheduled for a follow up phone discussion to review the extra lab results. When she performed this phone session, it started off with the office asking me for my credit card first prior to talking... a red flag... then we confirmed to keep it to a 30 min maximum timeframe. When the session started, it appeared Dr. Griffith had not reviewed the lab results and spent time to review and move through the reports. A few times while on the phone she was directing her office staff on their next steps and at one point the call dropped and it took a few minutes to reconnect the call. All of this was while the billing meter was still on. Also as this session progressed, Dr. Griffith spent more time on issues such as Celiac and why I should not eat gluten to why I should drink distilled water vs bottled. I am not sure of the relation on how the blood work she ordered and the results relate to my symptoms of the Demyelinating process. She also suggested I come back into to see her... on the billing meter... to hold some herbs and determine which ones my body likes. This herbal process might be supportive for me is what she said. This phone session then went over by 30 mins to a total time of 1 hour. Next I received another take home bag with more lab work and more out of state testing to be performed and provide a credit card as well. Lastly, I then received a call from the office stating how much I now owed which was not even a correct amount given the overages that Dr. Griffith knowingly accepted after I had confirmed the time limit for each meeting. read more

Dr. Julie Griffith is one of the best and smartest doctors I have come across, as an RN and a patient. She was able to methodically untangle my complicated and serious medical condition and turn my health around. Before her, I saw over 20 medical practitioners, including heads of departments at a major teaching hospital, and none were able to help me. Dr. Griffith is a neurologist who looks at the patient as whole person and incorporates latest research findings into her practice. She communicates well with other doctors the patient may have. This "Dr" is quite frankly the worst doctor I have ever in my life encountered. She has a number of court claims against her. Please do your research before going to see her. I do not have lyme disease, do not appreciate being incorrectly told I am responsible for my 7yr olds difficulties. The consultation was a complete waste of time. I was blatantly overcharged ($950!) and then threatened when I confronted her over it. If she asks you to complete a questionnaire when you get to her office please do not do it - you will be charged $250 for her time to do it. My GP and several others in Marin have advised me against seeing this woman. Their feedback is that her medical knowledge is very questionable. I would wholeheartedly agree with this view. read more

Dr. Griffith has been my neurologist for five years now, perhaps longer. I have lost track. In any case, I find her to be very smart, caring, nonjudgmental and open to suggestion about directions of treatment. When I have a meeting with her we put our heads together, look at the lab test results, look at the latest research, and so on, in order to come up with a treatment plan. I have a very complex case of chronic Lyme disease and parkinsonism. She really lets me, as a patient, help steer the direction of treatment. That means a lot to me, because so many doctors don't even want to hear what their patients might have discovered by researching things on the Internet, reading books, or talking to other patients outside of the clinic. They usually have some kind of superiority complex. I never feel this with Dr. Griffith. It has always been a collaborative effort with her. She is also very fast, working efficiently while I am in her office. There's no sitting around and scratching one's head wondering whether the doctor is hearing what you say, or is awake. She calls her assistant in several times during a typical session, asking for information about some drug, a particular report in my chart, or to call a pharmacy or get some doctor on the line. As I am giving her my update, she's typing what I say, so we can refer back to the notes. If she has a question that she doesn't know the answer to, she might take a stab at it on the web. (She has two notebook computers on her desk for two different purposes.) I bring my own iPad and I might be surfing for something as well. Then we will compare notes. But even better, she has a large network of experts, some of whom are friends of hers in the medical community. Many times in the middle of a session with her (which might last an hour or sometimes longer), she'll pick up the phone and call a specialist for some advice on dosing, which approach is better, which drug, etc. It could be another Lyme disease doctor or a pharmacist, for example. She will do a spontaneous conference call right on the spot, so I can hear what the specialist is saying and I can even ask my own questions. In one case, I had the idea of having my two Lyme disease doctors on the phone at the same time while Dr. Griffith and I were listening, so it was a four-way conversation. It was very productive. By the end of the conversation, we had come up with a game plan that all of the doctors were on board for. I don't think that could've been arrived at through any other approach. She does not hesitate to call a laboratory to check on the results of the lab test that might be delayed, or to confirm the results. She will even argue with the laboratory if they've replicated a test for me and charged me twice, for example. In other words, she will go to bat for her patients. Unlike many doctors I have been to, she actually puts me on the examining table and checks out things such as my reflexes, has me walk across the room and back, palpates to see if there's something strange in my gut, listens to my heart, and so forth. If I complain about an ache or a pain she will look into it, and sometimes has even sent me off to Marin General Hospital to get a blood culture or an x-ray if she fears that something serious is going on. She will admit it if she's a little fuzzy on some topic. That is actually reassuring for me. How can any doctor know everything? When is the last time you saw a doctor turn to his or her library and pull some book off of the top shelf and look up something s/he couldn't quite remember? Finally, I'll say that she is open to alternative treatments. So few MDs are. I know that from experience, unfortunately. Doctor Griffith is open to allopathic treatments (of course, having gone through a traditional Western medical education) but also naturopathic, homeopathic, and even fringier approaches, such as 'energy' work. I am happy to say, also, that she is within the Blue Shield network. So this means that I have a relatively small co-pay. To end I will say that I feel like I have an advocate who will fight for me and actually cares about me and my case, as complicated as it has been. She has also been reachable by email and telephone when I was having some kind of emergency, even if I were out of the country. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Griffith for about 3 months for treatment of chronic lyme disease. I was first referred to another doctor, but the first available appointment for him was 2 months out, so I saw Dr. Griffith who had an appointment available less than a month from when I called. I have been very pleased with my treatment by Dr. Griffith. I ended up keeping my appointment with that other doctor (who is very well respected and popular). Dr. Griffith encouraged me to keep that appointment and it was very interesting -- the other Doctor knows and respects Dr. Griffith, and he agreed with her findings and mostly agreed with her treatment approach. I could have moved to this other doctor, but when I looked at the differences in approach, I preferred Dr. Griffith. (Although I think the other doctor is also excellent). I don't think Dr. Griffith is for everyone. Her hourly rate seems about average to me for a Doctor, perhaps a little low for a specialist (she is a board-certified MD neurologist). But treatment of lyme disease is complex and it is easy to spend an hour in discussion, and for me this has been required 4 or 5 times. She is extremely thorough, and has a strong desire to directly address your personal situation and questions, which of course prolongs the discussion. She is the exact opposite of a Doctor who rushes you out after 10 minutes. Since she doesn't accept insurance (I have had about 50% of her bill covered after the painful process of submitting myself), you end up paying for this time. So it ends up being expensive. But it's expensive because she spends the time, not because she charges excessively. For me that is a good thing, a very good thing. But if cost is your key motivator, you really are better off with a Doctor who rushes you out after 10 minutes. Her treatment approach is slow, steady, and careful. I have a lot of drug sensitivities, and she has taken that into account in her plan, and been responsive to my reactions. That was the difference between her and the other Doctor that I mentioned at the top, he is more aggressive in his treatment regimens. I prefer Dr. Griffith's approach. Her knowledge is amazing, and she shares why she does what she does. She doesn't say "I am prescribing xx mg of such and such". She says "According to a study by Dr. blah blah blah, xx mg of such and such achieved such and such, so I'd like to try that until blah blah blah, at which time we'll such and such. But there's a risk of so and so, so let me know if you experience any symptoms of that". I really prefer her approach to the standard one. One last thing ... I was nervous about going to her initially because of the picture on her web site. I think she needs to retake it -- she is really kind and friendly. At least to me the picture on the website doesn't project that. But maybe that's just me. read more

Dr. Julie is one of the best doctors I ever worked with! My son and I have been doctor's patients for almost 3 years now and all we got from her was the best care possible. My son has a lot of challenges and most of these challenges are considered irreversible by most doctors but Dr. Julie took on his case with an open heart and an open mind. I learned a lot from her over the years and we received a lot of help and support from her from writing us a prescription and referring us to a specialist to writing letters and filling out forms, as well as talking to our School District. I feel very comfortable about the level of Dr. Julie's expertise. I've referred a few friends of mine to her practice who also are very happy with the level of service she has been giving them. Dr. Julie takes insurance and that has been very helpful with paying for her services. Overall, Dr. Julie is great! Her support staff is also very professional and helpful. Every time we come to the office we get treated like close family members with lots of love and acceptance and this is exactly how I want a doctor's office to be!
