Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara - Outside front of building

This is my first time ever visiting a Sikh Gurdwara, my wife and I were pretty lost but the place…read moreis quite straightforward. Upon arriving we removed our shoes at the shoe check, then washed our hands. Also, you need a head covering, they have them available in front of the temple as well. Also important to know is not to bring any alcohol, tobacco, or any other drugs. Upon entering there are hallways to the left and right with small empty rooms probably used for various things. Further forward there are two larger rooms. To the left is the main room with the altar and the holy book, The Guru Granth Sahib. There are people sitting there singing and meditating. Musicians are playing music in front to the left of the altar. The second large room to the right of the front entrance is the Langar, this is a very cool fact about Sikhism, every Gurdwata is also a soup kitchen. This is a very long standing tradition where emperors sit and eat alongside with peasants. Egalitarianism is a major tenant of this faith. It's much like a buffet, you get in line and volunteer servers fill your plate as you make your way along the serving tables. The food is vegetarian to accommodate as many people as possible. If you ever want to try real Punjabi food this is the place to do it. I also brought some cash with me to make a donation, while it was not necessary I really wanted to help support this place. I saw someone who had cash in his hand so I followed him and did what he did the best that I could. I followed him back into the main meditation room, placed the cash in front of the altar, did a bow and exited left. Of the five major religions in the world, this one is pretty cool. I have gone to school with growing up, and worked alongside many Sikhs in my life, while I'm sure every cultural group has it's share of baddies, I have never personally met one in my lifetime.

It came to my attention that Resurrection Catholic Church had received a very harsh review from a…read morewoman who attended a vigil Mass, one time. She had made observations about the Priest and parish that were quite frankly not true. First of all, the Priest. He is not celebrating himself. He is, "the real deal", and his parishioners love him dearly. Second, the Church is not dying. It is thriving! I have never seen such an active and alive parish. I have been going to Resurrection for a year and I love everything about this parish. Fr Aaron and the congregation are friendly, welcoming and loving. And the layout of the church is very convenient and accessible.

Sadly, the only thing distinguishing this mass from a Protestant celebration is the presence of the Most Holy Eucharist. Between the bizarre "Touch, touch, touch" mural on the wall, the total lack of kneelers in the church and the priest walking around with the ciborium full of hosts during communion, giving people knuckles, there wasn't much that resembles the Holy Mass. I felt like the priest was celebrating himself and gave little care to the Body and Blood of Christ he was handling. There was no reverence and no feeling of the sacred. I truly felt pained for Christ. Christ had nails driven through His hands and feet, but we can't even kneel? No wonder why there was a shocking lack of young people in the parish. If a parish isn't crying it's dying. I had the only baby in the church. Truly sad.
