I'm updating this review to say: that I have since referred Josie time and time again and used her when I shoot boudoir sessions and have always received compliments on what a great recommendation I made!!! ----- I met Josie on a fashion photoshoot I was second shooting with a fellow photographer. She was professional and friendly!! Josie did an amazing job! You could hardly tell the model had on makeup- she was soo natural looking. The true test in her skills was after the shoot. As I was editting i was soooo happy to see the models face looked flawless. It made my job soo easy. This was over a year ago. Last August I had a Trash the dress session. Josie came through again and did a flawless job and was on location to do touch ups throughout the shoot!! If you are a bride to be I highly recommend her she will enhance your natural beauty! I got married on a Sunday morning a couple weeks ago, and Josephine did an amazing job! (I will explain the reason for my rating below.) I found Josephine on Yelp after a failed make-up and trial through a salon. Before my makeup trial with Josephine, we chatted on the phone about how I wanted to look. She came to my house to do the makeup trial about 3 months before the wedding, and I couldn't believe the amount of stuff she brought! She was easy to talk to, she understood exactly the look I was going for, and it was so much fun being treated like a movie star in her trailer on set for the afternoon. I provided several inspiration photos of celebrities and other brides, and she picked and chose the best elements of each to give me a custom look that worked with my coloring and my vision for myself. I was a little daunted by the possibility of wearing false eyelashes, but I really did want my eyes to shine on my wedding day. So, false lashes it was! During the trial, I discovered that the full strips were a little uncomfortable, so she promised to throw in individual lashes for the day itself. And getting airbrushed was such an indulgence! Not only did it feel like I wasn't wearing any makeup, but it stayed in place the entire evening after the trial. After I decided to hire Josephine, I told her that I also needed a hairstylist. She recommended her mother, Nga Harmon, a longtime stylist. Nga ended up coming to my house for a hair trial after the makeup trial, and I think she understood the look I was going for, but the style did not hold up even after an hour. Nga promised that it would hold much better on the wedding day, so I decided to go with her, too. Fast forward to the wedding day. Both Josephine and her mother arrived at the bridal suite. I'm not sure exactly what happened to our time, but on Josephine's and Nga's suggestion, we allotted a total of 3 hours for Josephine to do 3 people's makeup and for Nga to do 5 people's hair. Somehow, I ended up being an hour late for the start of our professional portraits (9 am). Again, I'm not sure what happened, but I think it had something to do with the fact that Nga ended up working on my mother-in-law's hair before my own, even when she knew that I needed to be ready first. My hair, when finished, did look beautiful and held up much of the day, except for some flyaways here and there. This possible gap in communication caused me to miss my cocktail hour and also caused the photographer to have to shoot us outside in the 80-degree heat and sun at noon. I really appreciate that Josephine made up as much time as she could so that I wouldn't lose too much photo time, but I wished I weren't an hour late for my own photos. SO, I would give Josephine herself 5 stars with no hesitation, and I would recommend her to anyone looking for makeup in the Bay Area. My makeup (and everyone else's) looked amazing all day, even through the hot temperatures. I would have to give Nga Harmon 3 stars because I believe she is why I was late for my portraits. This averages to 4 stars. read more

I had Josephine do my wedding makeup in June. She did an excellent job. She is very responsible and professional. She responds to emails quickly with her clients, she arrived on time for the trial and wedding date, and she is very friendly. The most important thing is that her makeup skills are amazing. You can tell that you are wearing make up yet it looks very natural. A lot of the products that she uses are from NARS and MAC. She also has a machine which can spray foundation to the face to make the makeup last longer. She even goes above and beyond to ensure my day was perfect; she helped me fix my veil on the day of the wedding which was a lifesaver. Again, Josephine is a excellent makeup artist, I would use her again and will recommend her to my friends. read more

I got married this past January of 2009 and I went back and forth about having someone do my make-up professionally. I had interviewed a few people over the phone and though some seemed like ideal candidates, none of them spoke to me the way Josephine did. She wasn't pushy, she wasn't trying to tell me how SHE felt I should look on my wedding day and she didn't sound like she was in this for HER! She was all about me and how I felt and asked ALL the right questions and my search was instantly over. I felt 100% confident that this gal was who I needed and wanted to make me look gorgeous on my special day. When I finally met her on the day of my wedding, it came to such a delightful surprise, but I immediately recognized her from her days at MAC. It was fate! There is absolutely NOTHING but positive vibes coming from this lady...I mean, she LOVES what she does and she cares about making you feel comfortable and always makes sure you are okay with what she's doing. I can not say enough about her. Not only did she wait patiently while all the wedding chaos was going on around her, but she was always professional, always positive, always easy going and very very focused on her task at hand. I tell you....i'm not one who normally wears more than powder and blush, so when she was done with me, and I looked at myself...I was in COMPLETE awe over her work! Josephine did my makeup for my wedding day, and her work was fabulous. It accentuated my natural characteristics and, even though it was more makeup than I usually wear, it felt amazingly natural and easy. She has so many tools and types of makeup! It was really fun just to watch her work. I also felt very comfortable with Josephine - you can tell she knows what she's doing. She's fast, efficient, but also thoughtful and careful with her work. The makeup was so good I didn't even have to touch-up during the day. I didn't do a trial with Josephine because we were concerned about our wedding budget. I scheduled a makeup trial, which ended up being successful and led me to hire Josephine for my July 2009 wedding. Josephine is not only professional and talented at her craft; she is also extremely nice and likeable.
