The city of Nashville banned any future development in floodzones, and the city and the taxpayers purchased over 60 properties affected in this area alone. This park was named after Martha and Andy England, an elderly couple who drowned in their home during the flood. The project was especially successful thanks to the folks at make-a-smile.org who built the playgrounds. The park has a beautifully paved walkway, a small playground, and some picnic tables. Situated on Morrow Road and running parralel to Briley Parkway, West Park is a smaller park featuring two large fields, one in a baseball diamond and the other a large multi-purpose fields, a community center, covered patio/picnic area with restrooms, playgrounds and a 1.1 mile walking trail, the Richland Creek Greenway, that runs alongside the creek and essentially creates a circle around the park. I popped by the walking/jogging trail, which at 1.1 miles takes you around the full park including by the water treatment facility. The trail does get a bit disconnected near the water treatment facility where you have to cross the road and either utilize the sidewalk or the rock path to reconnect and complete the full circle. Parking is in two separate lots that do not connect. The one behind the softball/baseball field is a tad smaller than the other and it fills up rather quickly. The park was well taken care, in good repair and a good spot for getting outdoors for a walk, run or game of some sorts. The location alongside the water facility is a bit odd, but it adds a bit of character. Overall, solid park!

The chicken was juicy and wasn't spicy but had a good flavor. They provided sauces on the side like ketchup, some kind of dill ranch or aioli, and mustard. I do wish they would've chosen a different bun. The option provided was a bit dry. Located in the heart of the Gulch, Noble Park is less park and more green space that allows you to be as social as you choose. In addition, and what real makes this space special is the beautiful water wall and the speakers scattered about adding the vibes. While the music is a great add and reflects the seasons, the water wall and the sound of natural flowing water is all you need for a good moment of Zen! As you would expect, the park is surrounded by residential buildings and commerce of all types from ice cream to self-care (facials) and even a sandwich shop across the street. Parking for the park is your standard Gulch parking, nothing dedicated, but plenty of street parking and paid lots in the area. While I have not been during an event, I read that Noble Park is home to markets and other pop-ups throughout the year. The space is perfect for that. Overall, Noble Park is a nice nook of calm in the middle of The Gulch. A space that I visit every time I am in the area.

But I guess that could be a good thing when it comes to keeping Nashville Nashville and not farming it away to developers from outside the city and folks who couldn't tell you the difference between a Pike and a Road. Fisk Park is a Nashville Nashville sort of place and I was so pleased to spend some time there. Tucked into a residential neighborhood, Fisk Park offers locals a perfect destination for a summer bbq, pick up game or afternoon trip with the kids. You'd, likely, never make Fisk Park a destination but if you found yourself there, I think you'd find plenty of ways in which to enjoy the space. For instance, I was pleased to note that the baseball diamond was well-maintained - even during a trip in mid-fall (long after baseball season was over). If baseball's not your spots, I think you could make good work of the basketball courts - which were in stellar shape and looked relatively new. Have some little ones that aren't quite court ready? No worries. There are two playgrounds. While one location is definitely in need of some TLC, the main attraction is kiddo-ready, complete with shiny colors and that spongey floor material that adorns newer playgrounds (In my day, you fell, scraped your knee and kept it moving). If hanging with the little ones frays your nerve, take to the fitness trail that surrounds the green space. You can walk it or run it or step off it to complete the city-approved obstacles that dot it. If the only reason you're here is to eat, drink and be merry, check out the (small) pavilion and bring enough for the neighbors. When I drove up to the park, I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. I tried to convey that pleasant surprise in the pictures I posted. Spending an afternoon here reminded me that there's so much of the city to enjoy, discuss and spotlight. It's worth it to see it for yourself. In fact, you owe it to yourself and your city cred.
