Let it be known that Dordrecht is not known for its restaurants and cafés. Walking through town on this rainy Tuesday afternoon, I came across this little place on the corner which advertised coffee, which was exactly what I was looking for.
The two ladies working there were very friendly and more than happy to speak English, unlike much of the Dutch service staff I've encountered on this trip so far. So, that was cool.
The place is clean and open, and a good spot for watching people stroll by. Also cool.
I first ordered a cappuccino and was not disappointed. Hot and strong, served with something like shortbread. Delicious.
However, and while I'll admit that perhaps I should have ordered something different, I went for the "mini pizza". No false advertising here - the thing was indeed mini. I finished it in six bites. If you are from The States - you probably know those mini pizzas by Red Baron in the frozen section. Those are better than this was. Unfortunately, the one I ordered must have also been frozen though, because while the edges were hot, the center was refrigerator cold. Served with slices of dried up cucumber and tomato on the side. I had been hoping for something like what I saw at the bakery yesterday, but this was not that. Fail.
Anyhow, would I return for lunch? Doubtful, unless someone posts photos of their other items looking a little more exciting than what I had. Would I return for coffee? Absolutely. read more
