I felt uncomfortable during YOUR tour in response to the way YOU (the guide) treated me. I've never had a problem with any other tour guide in NOLA...or any other city. You can check my reviews on that. Maybe check yourself and your arrogance and use it to become a fantastic tour guide, because without the deliberate attempt to make someone else look smaller by putting them down, the tour would have been just that...fantastic. The first time I booked with JWT was in January 2019 on the Vampire VIP Tour. With every step of the uneven NOLa sidewalks JW weaved tales that kept our group enthralled and on our toes. Our haunted tour was scheduled for January 6th 2024 at 7:15. Meeting place was 622 Pirates Alley. Six of us waited in the cold for 45 minutes. Emails and phone calls went unanswered by the host the rest of the evening. All 6 of us booked through Groupon so we will have to try to get refunds through them. Save yourself the aggravation and headache and find another tour than Jonathan Weiss. Sadly no ghosts just ghosted by the host. Edit to add: Groupon has issued me a full refund. The review still stands at one star. Communication is everything and disappointing 6 people who waited out in the cold for an hour is not a good business practice. read more

We did the walking 90 minute ghost tour with Jonathan. Our group found him to be very knowledgeable, informative and a great story teller rich with the history of New Orleans. Johathan definitely knew the timing of all the other walking tours because we arrived at the mid-tour stop for a drink & bathroom break at the oldest bar in the French Quarters just a few minutes before all the other tours so we didn't have to wait in the long lines for either a drink or bathroom. We booked two tours through Jonathan Weiss Tours during our week long stay in New Orleans. The first tour was their Cemetery #1 tour. I can't remember our tour guides name, but he was so much fun and was clearly very passionately about the history of New Orleans. We were able to visit 3 separate cemeteries and the Hurricane Katrina memorial. The other tour was the French Quarter Ghost Tour. Doug led this tour and was incredible. We were the only people on this tour so it felt like a private experience. We stopped by multiple bars so we could walk around with drinks while visiting some of the most haunted places around the French Quarter. These tours were well worth the money and I would love to try some of the other if we are ever in New Orleans again! read more

Probably my 8th or 9th guided tour in the city, and definitely one of my favorites. Jonathan is very knowledgeable about the history of the city and cultivates his tours to be both intriguing and informative. We had two young teenagers with us on our tour (one who was worried about the "ghost" aspect) and everyone had a great time. The magic of his stories, and his attempted accents from other local languages and dialects all add to the theatrics of the tour. The tour didn't move very far around the quarter, so it would've been good for someone who doesn't want a really mobile tour, but there were lots of stories packed into the small area we covered, and of course the typical stop at Lafitte's about halfway through for some liquid refreshment. I went on Jonathan's tour on ghosts and vampires. I went on a city walking tour and I felt Jonathan did a better job at covering the early history of new Orleans than my morning tour guide at a different company. For instance, the morning guide talked about how early residents fired cannon balls to rid the city of yellow fever. Jonathan added how residents also burned tarr which stopped the spread of yellow fever as bugs don't like burning tarr which temporarily stopped the spread of yellow fever. read more

I love history and he really went into detail about the buildings and historical figures as well as the different events shaping New Orleans into what it is today. Worse experience ever. Booked the tour for Sat at 7:15pm. There are 6 people in total (from different group) waiting in the cold for 45 minutes and no tour guide show up. Booked the "Dark history" tour for my fiance's birthday, I've been to New orleans a few times but it was always spent blindly roaming bourbon st. Katrina took away alot from the city but when Mr. Weiss begins his tour your are transported back to the times of Jezebel's, pirates, slave trade, and the desire for a better life. So, I think this kind of tour is neat. This can be an amazing time or it can be ruined all depending on which tourguide you are lucky enough to get or unlucky enough to be stuck with. Our tour was about Haunted New Orleans..I didn't ask for politically slanted rhetoric with the tourguide telling my 6 & 7 y/o's how Andrew Jackson loved to rape Natives, drink rum and ruin people's lives as a past time. This had nothing to do with ghosts and outside of being uncalled for was wildly innaccurate in its portrayal by an ill informed tour guide. read more

We did the Dark History and Haunted Ghost tour with Jonathan and we had an amazing time. Jonathan is incredibly knowledgeable about NOLA's dark past and brings the stories to life in a way few are ever able to. I felt that we got a very dark glimpse into New Orleans' past and a peek into the future of a city that is losing it's unique flavor to those that want to make it generically boring. Jonathan brought many personal stories into the tour and also offered recommendations on places to go see, shop at, and eat at that are authentic to NOLA (we went to several and weren't disappointed). When we were on the tour, we saw several tour groups and their guides lacked the enthusiasm and knowledge that Jonathan brought to our tour. After doing so, I emailed Mr Weiss to ask for confirmation of the purchase & availability as the voucher had said to do. I booked a tour with Jonathan after tons of research knowing I only had time for one tour while visiting for Halloween weekend. He is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic local who will leave you wishing the tour was longer. He checks in on everyone in the group, makes sure you can hear him and works with much smaller groups so the tour is more interactive and you have time to ask questions. I always feel less engaged when a tour feels like a lecture and he leads by keeping everyone engaged with how much information he has to share. I booked a 2 hour dark history tour on Groupon (one was for one person and the 2nd was for two). It was around $12/pp. The extra star was for the price value. I made reservations for a Sunday and thought that it was a nice way to do something fun in French Quarters that didn't involve booking through the larger tour group organizations that you see all over the area. Last year, I went on a ghost/dark history tour with a larger organization and thought it was great. I wanted to try a different/private tour so I could learn different history. We didn't stop at many places during this tour so I was a little disappointed that we couldn't see more. We learned about the private dining area for ghosts at Muriel (something I also learned on my last year's tour), the history of the oldest tavern/bar where pirates frequented, what buildings remained that actually were French-built and how there was a building with a freezer that may have stored dead bodies. My only gripe was that Jonathan spoke very fast and my parents and I had trouble understanding at times. I had to listen very intently (and English is my primary and native language). read more

I loved it. My wife booked a walking tour and wasn't all in. But this guy is just the best guide will will come across anywhere. He drifted between southern English, French, Spanish, English in a Spanish accent, English in a French accident. Magnificent story teller. I assume his stories were true. If they weren't I don't care, very confident and answered all of our questions. I will recommend him to anyone who ever is going to do this on New Orleans. We were a small group, and I would assume he keeps it that way on purpose. We passed other groups of like 20 people and that would not be nearly as intimate or enjoyable. read more

Jonathan's tours are AWESOME guys! I understand most of the negative reviews are on scheduling and communication. I also had a bit of extra communication needed to book the tour, with my Groupon, but Jonathan gives his phone number and I was able to just text him! He sent back responses and told us where to meet. Extra steps, yes, but it is just one dude and what I'm guessing is his wife doing all of this, so understandable. The tour itself was cool as heck. At first Jonathan seems a bit....odd....maybe even creepy. He does talk fast and has quite the Nahlins draawl, but all of that REALLY adds to this night time tour! His whole demeanor is certainly "different" but he would tell you he IS New Orleans, so buckle up, buttercup! The tour is CHOCK full of info, history, stories, creepiness and Jonathan is funny as hell. By the end of the tour we literally hugged Jonathan.
