I have mixed feelings about this place because for one thing I absolutely loved it here for years. They made delicious sandwiches and fries and their drinks are very refreshing. That being said though one unfortunate incident can ruin it all. This is that incident. I ordered two sandwiches before, one for dinner that night and one for lunch. While I was eating the lemongrass chicken I suddenly felt really weird but then ignored it. That night when I was asleep I suddenly woke up and was vomiting for the rest of the night. While I'm still not 100% sure what gave me food poisoning but Joju was the only thing I ate that day. I don't think the chicken was under cooked because it tasted fine until I got to the end where all the vegetables are. As much as I loved Joju I doubt I'd eat another sandwich from them again. Lemongrass Sandwich - 6/10 (The chicken was super dry and didn't have a strong enough lemongrass flavor that I hoped for. I just added super amount of Sriracha hot sauce...then it was edible.) BBQ Pork Sandwich - 8/10 (This was more delightful than previous. First time eating here and god, the sandwiches are amazingly delicious. I tried to Bulgogi Bahn Mi, spicy. Wow that kung fu kick to the taste buds! Some people add the runny egg, I added a medium/well done egg, which was amazing too. I know it's a sandwich but still, I'm a classy clean eater but I can definitely imagine a runny egg bringing this sandwich to a whole new level. Those fries are on point. I was never really a Vietnamese Sandwich person because the shops I tried in Chinatown have dry hard bread that cuts your mouth and dry meat that makes you choke. But this place makes me rethink my dislike for these sandwiches. This place has the best Vietnamese sandwiches! I tried the Monster Joju, Pork Belly sandwich, and Kimchi Fries. I've came across this place many times and today's the day I give it a go. I ordered the lemongrass chicken, beef bulgogi, kakuni pork belly and 2 Vietnamese ice coffee. Beef bulgogi was the best (GET IT!) very juicy and the bread was nice and soft. The lemongrass chicken was ok, I didn't like the spicy mayo with the lemongrass flavor. I was expecting a lot from the pork belly, thought I would like it but it was too fatty. The pork wasn't braised long enough so the fat was firm and not melty/creamy? Went to JoJu today for a classic sandwich and ended up getting The JoJu. Overall it was a tasty sandwich with really crusty bread, but personally I found the pickled radish/carrot too sweet (as with the pate). Upon first bite the flavour from the pickled veggies almost entirely overwhelmed the other ingredients, rendering the cold cuts somewhat bland. The fresh spring rolls, however, were indeed very fresh and delicious. Ice coffee could have used more condensed milk, but I like that they use coffee from Cafe du Monde. Staff was pleasant and the interior of the cafe was clean and bright. A comfortable dining experience in general, then again I was there on a week day shortly after their opening, so there wasn't much of a crowd. read more

I love JoJu! One of my go to spots for breakfast, lunch or dinner! I have literally tried almost all there food and the best is: JoJu Banh Mi Fries ($5.49): this is like a mountain of fries! You get so much in an order. Taste loaded fries, but asian style! The flavor is amazing, there pickled carrot, cheese and you could add meat or eggs if you want. Pork Spring Roll (2 for $1.99): the spring rolls are absolutely my go to! It does not taste like the ones you buy at a grocery store! Goes perfectly with the chili sauce they give you. I could eat like four in one sitting! Chicken Wings (8 for $7.99): to be honest, this is bomb! Super crispy and not oily, which makes it even better! I even got this deliver and it was still crispy! The JoJu ($7.99): this is the sandwich! I love the flavor and how it always has so much meat it in, the only thing is I hate cilantro and always forget to tell them to not put it in. The pate spread sometimes throws me off too. Beef Bulgogi ($7.99): this is my boyfriends go too because he hates the pate spread. The meat is pretty tender and taste just like the bulgogi dish, but on a sandwich! Mojito: my absolute favorite drink. The mango and lychee is my absolute favorite! Not to sweet either. I love Joju. One of my favorite Banh Mi spots in NYC. The viet iced coffee is bomb. Fries is bomb too. I was always telling my girlfriend how she NEEDS to try this spot. I was in the neighborhood and I decided to get her a banh mi and bring it to over to her for dinner in Long Island(around exit 40). This is my go to place to grab a quick cheap and filling meal before heading into the subway. I usually get either bulgogi or pork belly with the free yelp check in egg, which I get well done instead of runny for less mess and more egg flavor! The reviews here say it all about the food, but I'd just wish they would chop up the cilantro because every time I take a bite the entire piece of cilantro would come out. Kimchi fries are good, but a bit too spicy for me. Must eat right away otherwise the fries will get soggy quick. The banh mi fries I'd pass on if you're already getting a sandwich because it's the same flavors just on fries. Calling ahead of time or ordering on yelp to do pick up is super convenient and they'll have it done by the time you get there even if you live only 5 minutes away! You can also still use the free egg check in as long as you show them before you pay. Also keep in mind that the loyalty card is a stamp for every $10 so if you make a $20 purchase it's actually 2 stamps! read more

In the middle of a block, busy with hundreds of signs in Chinese, you will find this gem! JoJu is one of the best Banh Mi shops I have ever been to. Their bread is super fresh, with just the right crunch on the outside and chewy on the inside. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I recommend the #1 and #6 with a Vietnamese coffee (made with Caffe du monde coffee!). Only down side is that parking in the area stinks. read more

The food here is super yum which explains why it's always packed. That being said, this place is tiny! Not ideal for a claustrophobe like me. It prob would be a better use of space to just have it be a take out place. With the lines of people ordering and waiting for their food, everyone is on top of each other with the people sitting and eating. As for the food, so good! As a regular here, I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite spots in the area. I was a fan before but I must say that once they introduced the bahn mi fries, my whole world changed. The rest of the menu doesn't disappoint. The staff is friendly and this spot almost has the feel of a cafe because people just come and stay to chat. It's small but spacious and the green paint and chalkboard walls give it a very fun and modern touch to the neighborhood. First Time Review: Kicking it off right with two of the most mentioned offerings: Kakuni Pork Belly Sandwich and the Kimchi Fries. It's definitely not FAST food, as it took 46 MINUTES (Or maybe 20? See EDIT after the Kimchi Fried review) ) to prepare these two items during busy lunch time (1pm) - I noticed quite a few people picking up orders all the time I was here though, so I think online ordering might be the way to go. They also have their own iOS and Android apps too (untested), and ordering available through Facebook. --Review while eating-- Kakuni Pork Belly Sandwich: I ordered a more adventurous sandwich to start. The "more spicy" option puts a layer of Sriracha on top, which is always good as long as you don't add so much that it overpowers the other flavors of this unique sandwich - and they didn't. It was just the right amount of hot. First off, the fragrance of the Pork Belly sandwich by itself is intoxicatingly good. There's a coating to it that is like the meat detritus that sticks to the bottom of a pan after cooking something until it caramelizes. The pork belly was served hot and perfectly done, eye-closing yumminess when you sink into it. The veggies were fresh and stuffed in - no skimping here. Chock full of shredded carrots. I could have used just a bit better balance of cucumber for my personal tastes. The vegetables definitely balance out the very fatty pork belly. Not a sandwich for those that don't eat the fatty parts of meats. Pork belly is like, ONLY the fatty parts with a little bit of meat attached. Final rating for the pork sandwich is 9/10. I think adding the fried egg might have pushed it to 10. I'll test that theory next time! The Kimchi Fries: I love Kimchi. I love fries. So my first impression was that this would be a simple order of French fries topped with Kimchi, which I would totally be okay with. What I got however, was a blend of awesome ingredients: Chopped up kimchi, onion(?) cilantro, jalapeños... it was on it's way to greatness BUT was ruined by ONE thing: The mayo sauce. I hated the mayo sauce on top because the fries already are greasy and when you mix that with hot mayonnaise, things get puke-worthy. For me, anyway. If you regularly eat that sort of thing, this could be pretty nice for you. But it just gave me instant heartburn and a rumbly tummy. I think I would order it again, but skip the mayo sauce please. I'm docking two stars for nearly an hour wait for a sandwich and fries. Good thing I wasn't in a hurry. Definitely order 45 minutes ahead if you need to get in and out. (EDIT : They actually marked my order as "To Go" when I said I would eat in. As a result, it was sitting in a bag ready to be picked up, and nobody called out my number. Here I was, sitting at the table farthest from the counter... So I actually don't know how long it took to make. It took me 48 minutes to ask. So, one star refunded for being partly my mistake.) Despite the slowness, all in all, my first experience with JoJu was really just a delicious scratch off the surface! Believe the hype. I love this place. Their banh mi fries are perfectly fried and oh so delicious. The soy garlic chicken wings tastes great, are juicy and sizable. And their banh mi sandwiches are uh-mazing. I've tried the beef bulgogi, BBQ pork, lemongrass chicken, kakuni pork belly, the Joju, and the Joju Monster. They're all really good but my favorite is the Joju, followed by the beef bulgogi. I don't care much to have the green sauce because the sandwiches are tasty enough and I think the green sauce just makes it unnecessarily too spicy (even though I usually like spice). The sandwiches are pre-cut in half for you and are very large so you can definitely swap for the other half of a different banh mi with a friend to try different flavors, or even just eat half and be full. The drinks are pretty good as well. I like how they give a 10% student discount if you have your student ID. Love that they have loyalty punch cards as well, but I wish they don't have an expiration date. :( It is usually pretty packed in there during lunch time but the turnover is fast so you can get a seat if you wait for a teeny bit. read more

JoJu puts a really unique concept to Banh Mi. You would think that Banh Mi only have ham and BBQ Pork but no, they change it up to something even better. Beware, anything with a egg is extremely messy. The Classic Banh Mi was good, but definitely cannot win over the Classic Banh Mi I always get from my viet sandwich store. The Linsanity Banh Mi (with a runny egg) was a little weird for my taste bud, maybe because of the chicken. The Bulgogi "Bomb Me" is probably the only thing I really liked that was different. Everything went really well together, from the beef to the sour radish, egg, and kimchi. The beef is full of flavor and chewy while being soft. You don't taste the egg and kimchi as much, only once in a while. Their Loaded Kimchi Fries and Banh Mi Fries are both really good, it's hard to choose which one is better. The Banh Mi is definitely more of a mix of flavor because of the sour radish and running egg. The Kimchi is if you want spicy, crunchy, and meat at the same time. read more

Got the lemon grass chicken sandwich and kimchi fries. First of all, I applaud this restaurant on the quality of the ingredients as the flavors of the meat and softness of the bread definitely stood out. The sauce and remaining ingredients were so perfectly blended and fresh which in my opinion is one of the many reasons to come back to this establishment. The kimchi fries were also delicious! Honestly, don't know why this place has not expanded somewhere else yet but their business is still poppin' even though there's little seating and hard spot to get to because parking's hard to find. I always get the Bulgogi Bomb Me sandwich and the Kimchi Fries. The Bomb Me is the same thing as the Bulgogi sandwich but with a runny egg. The Bulgogi flavor goes amazingly with the runny egg and the pickled carrots/daikon. The portion is also huge so don't worry about the price. The fries are a little pricier (especially if you get it with the runny egg, which you should) but it's sooooo good and has this perfect crisp that's also just worth it. Banh Mi from Joju brings my faith back in Vietnamese Sandwiches. I have had my shares of Viet Sandwiches all over Queens, Manhattan Chinatown. Nothing can be compared to Joju's Banh Mi. First, it is awfully accessible being that it is very closed to a subway station. Even during Winter time, you can quickly get off at Elmhurst station on R or M line and walk a few blocks and get your Banh Mi and get back on the train. And ofcourse having a monthly unlimited MTA card helps too :). Ok so now back to praise the glory of Joju, a viet sandwiche sanctuary. Joju offers a variety of sandwiches and a variety of snacks like spring rolls (2 for $2), sumer rolls (2 for 3.50). Their full menu is brightly lit and displayed overhead for easy read. If that is not enough, they also have a computer display of their delicious food right on the counter. I guarantee that you will have a difficult time picking out just ONE!
