There is ample time built into all of my children's' day to get outdoors and run around. We have been very impressed with all of the co-curriculars: Outdoor Science is a stand out, and so unique to the school; the art program for all of my kids has been phenomenal and well-designed; all of my kids LOVE their language programs, and PE and music have been wonderful as well! As an educator, I love that there is space for multiple co-curriculars per day. My son's middle school experience has exceeded expectations with multiple ways for him to get involved: after school sports, Battle of the Books, and even off-season strength & conditioning. He also really enjoyed the class trip at the beginning of the year! There is so much to be involved in, the only difficulty is narrowing it down! I have found the teachers, across the board, to be stand outs. They are excellent communicators, passionate about their subjects, and wonderfully engaging in a way that goes beyond the dreaded worksheets. I love how different disciplines work together to make the subjects come alive across multiple subject areas. I love the project-based learning I see with all of my kiddos. Additionally, I have been impressed with the school's engagement with families, and feeling welcomed in a new community. He has thrived, the school fosters a strong sense of community, and the staff and teachers are all very loving and supportive. We have recently moved back into Wake county, near a well rated school and yet we will continue to invest in his future (aka pay tuition) to ensure that he continues to receive the best foundation for his later school years. You can read reviews from years past, talking about the difficult administrative situation...we lived it, but we are on the other side of that now. The administration this year had the challenge of gaining trust, correcting prior issues, evaluating the kids and teachers and implementing substantial changes to both curriculum and expectations. coupled with the pandemic and transition to a virtual learning environment - the didn't just do it, they excelled at making this year the best we have had. I will say that the idea of distance learning terrified me, and I have a teaching background. But the plan was thorough, thoughtful, and so very well executed. We were the envy of our friends who attend public schools. Our son didn't just have busy work, he had a strong curriculum and daily routine, that was a solid extension of the in-school work he had been doing. The partnership between the school and parents was and continues to be beyond measure. The Spanish teacher even took time during her office hours and sometimes beyond to not only help the students, but tutor the parents (me included) so that we could best support our kids in her lessons. The teachers made sure zoom was both a place of learning and a place to have a social opportunity. If, by some grace, we are able to go back as planned, I know that the school will be prepared, standards will be set above those required, and our kids will be not only be educated, but safe. I am confident that CBA-Cary will rise to the challenge and am so fortunate that my family can be part of the "team". If we have to restart in a distance learning environment - you want to be here! I am going to do my best to keep this review as short as possible. My husband and I looked into…read morethis school for our 4year old daughter (at the time we toured she was 3). After touring the school we were extremely impressed with the class size, the curriculum and the structure we saw. We visited in March or April of 2015. Because we were impressed we immediately wanted to get her enrolled for the upcoming school year which began in September. At the time of our tour their 4yrold class was full and we would have to be placed on wait list. We were told our daughter was next on the list. There was a parent who was having a difficult time she had two kids enrolled but struggling to find work and didn't know if she would be able to afford the tuition for the up upcoming year. Basically the picture painted was that our daughter had an extremely good chance to make the full time list. We paid the registration fee and gave them a check to hold for first months tuition as there was an opening for part time Tues/Thurs. We then placed our daughter in daycare. Our intent was to pull her from daycare once the school year started. Remember all of this was in March/April. My husband and I called several times over the course of the summer to check the status of the wait list. The first time I called I was told that our daughter went from being next on the list to now having 2 people ahead of her. I was immediately taken aback and upset. Because this was a verbal conversation it was my word against theirs. I should have used my better judgment at that point and just asked for a refund of tuition. But I was told to just hang tight. Something could still open up. Part of their "policy" is in order to receive a refund of tuition you must call and ask that they shred your check by July 15. The school year doesn't begin until the Monday following Labor Day. So as I'm calling BEFORE July 15 they still have me hanging on to hopes that our child will get a spot. My issue is the time frames they place before you...the lack of contact on their part during this "waiting period". Existing parents are to give 2weeks notice regarding their re-enrollment for the school year. See the disparity? At the very least when the July 15 deadline approaches they should contact parents on their waiting list to discuss the status and objectives. The only time they reached out to me is via mail a week before open house which took place on Sept 2 or 3rd. When I got the letter I tried calling the school but no one was available to take my call so I emailed them to let them know my daughter wouldn't be attending the school part time. I wanted to include the email exchange, however Yelp advised me that I could not because is includes personal information. The owner (who this exchange took place with) provides her photo, name and email address all over their website. The email exchange is what prompted me to even write the review. The tone, the dismissiveness, the lack of professionalism, the fact that a spot mysteriously opens up once I complain and ask for a refund is all suspect. I want people to see for themselves the kind of administration that runs this school BEFORE you think of enrolling your child. Here's the thing no matter what I feel or complain about the administration should remain professional. The owner would have you believe this is about my child not getting a spot, but this is about a lack of professionalism. After scrambling and by the grace of God, we were able to pull my daughter from daycare and enroll her full time at another private school. She started late but nonetheless she's in. The owner would also have you think that this review is being posted from a place of maliciousness and truly it's not. It's not even about the refund. I asked for one they declined and that for me could have and would have been the end of it. However when I shared my disappointment with the process and the owner took it upon herself to dangle a spot that magically opened up (AFTER MY COMPLAINT) in front of me and then goes on to insinuate that my child doesn't belong at her school BECAUSE she felt some type of way about my email and complaints...this is why I'm posting this review. It's beyond unprofessional, in fact it's down right insulting. **UPDATE The owner decided to comment on my review, you can see just how "professional" she is. She's calling me a liar, did I once call her names?! No I only stated my opinion regarding her tone and lack of professionalism. She begins calling me a liar about an email. If she had READ my review I said MAIL not email. Not once did I say anything about open house and email, so I'm not lying. We toured a lot of schools and did a lot of research and it was clear to us that the public school system (at the time) just wasn't going to work with where our son was coming from academically. We thankfully heard about Thales from a counselor we happened to meet in passing and he said it would be absolutely incredible for our son. Turns out he was right. Our son is incredibly bright and very mature for his age. What we love about Thales is that he can do curriculum and courses in upper grades though he isn't technically in that grade. Example: he is in 2nd grade however he does most of his classes in 3rd grade. It was the same when he was in 1st he did most of his classes in 2nd. This keeps him challenged and from being bored in class when he would otherwise feel like he was way ahead of everyone else sitting around waiting for them to catch up. Additionally I've heard from many friends whose kids attend that if your child needs more attention and care in a certain subject, that support is just as strong as it is for kids who need to be placed ahead. What I love about that is my son isn't just being moved up to a higher grade, instead he is being kept with kids his own age in a few classes which allows him to continue to grow emotionally. Just because my son can do 3rd grade curriculum doesn't mean he is READY for 3rd grade emotionally and I love that they believe in that. I am the first to admit that the classical learning style is NOT for everyone. My son THRIVES on structure and having expectations presented in a direct way. Not all children like this or need this kind of learning structure - but that doesn't mean it's because this is a strict and mean school. The curriculum moves quickly, stays challenging and is presented in a very real life way. My son isn't being taught how to be a perfectionist, he is being taught how to thrive in a fast paced world molded by ethics and morals. That I can absolutely appreciate in this I want and need things right now pace of life we are all living in. My daughter will now be attending Thales this upcoming school year and it's been fun watching her thrive the same way her brother does in education and we are happy to have them both attending the same school - for our own sanity too :) Are there issues at this school with staff, I'm sure. It's a school with lots of staff there are bound to be issues of some kind right? Does the principle run a tight ship? I'm sure she does with the kind of curriculum they are pushing out you would have to. Are there issues/opinion/thoughts/assumptions with parents or kids or both, oh I'm sure there is a lot of that too. Do I know about any of it? Not really which makes me very happy. I think private schools get a very bad rap for being a certain way. We all know the way and Thales Academy couldn't be more opposite in my opinion. Our five-year-old son was kicked out of kindergarten today during his second week of school based entirely on a biased phone call with his previous school, without Fayetteville Christian School ever conducting their own assessment or making any effort to get to know him. The reality behind why we left the previous school is entirely distorted by this previous administration and/or administrator. We withdrew our children because a teacher there physically grabbed and pinched my younger 3-year son so hard, it left visible marks and bruises that lasted for days (which we have proof of). We even showed grace and decided not to report it any higher than their admin level and to this day, we have never even received as little as a sorry from the teacher in question. Rather than taking accountability, that school tried to blame a toddler. This event has left such a lasting effect on my son to the point that when we drive by this school, he must tell the story! While we had minor behavioral hiccups last year, we actively worked to mitigate any behavioral issues that arose with them and always made significant progress. By taking another school's defensive narrative at face value, Fayetteville Christian School chose to judge a child based on a single source of gossip. This decision was made immediately after reaching out to the previous school, without warning. My son is a high-energy five-year-old with a huge heart, but this school gave up on him immediately after his first minor behavioral issue. Keep in mind, he is just starting kindergarten where everything is new and where a big adjustment period is expected. To make matters worse, the staff was incredibly rude and dismissive over the phone. Today was the first and last day of any communication regarding behavior from the front office. They entirely refused to work with us to find a solution, and an administrative staff member even implied that a high-energy five-year-old should be medicated. Suggesting drugs rather than offering a structured partnership or simple patience is a lazy, toxic approach to early childhood education. This institution claims to stand on Christian values, but their actions stand in direct opposition to Christ's teachings. Christ commanded to "let the little children come to me," yet your institution shut the door on a child at the very first sign of effort. You denied our son a fair chance, denied our family a collaborative partnership, and handled this situation with hostility rather than the love of Christ. Their so-called Christian Institution is built on conditional love and self-preservation. If you want a school that actually partners with parents and treats children with love and patience, look elsewhere.
